I decided to get my haircut, finally, but I can't locate my former hairdresser anymore. I think maybe she retired during the pandemic which is so sad since I had been seeing her for over a decade. ‍ I researched on Yelp and this salon came up highly. I saw some of Yelp friends have it high reviews as well so it seemed like a good sign to check it out. I called to make an appointment, but then I found better availability online. It was easy to reschedule which was great. I got a text message confirmation of my appointment too which was handy. The salon is located in the new Orchards shopping center in that like beauty row by the waxing place. Parking is easy and ample which is great. I was seen right on schedule which was impressive. I walked in right as the previous client was paying. The salon chairs are well spaced for social distancing and everyone was wearing masks. I showed a few photos and my hairstylist got what I was going for. My stylist wasn't particularly chatty, but that's okay. It made me miss my old stylist a bit as she will be irreplaceable! However, I'm happy with my haircut and I'll likely be back! The prices are fair. It's more than a Supercuts type of place, but less than the downtown salons. I left pleased. read more

I have been here for 2 haircuts and each experience has been different. My first haircut the lady did a fantastic job giving me what I asked for while giving me a haircut that worked best for my hair. It looked amazing after. The only thing is that she was a little rough on my hair and it wasn't a relaxing experience. My second haircut I got someone around my age and it was a great experience. However the haircut was not good and not the best cut for my hair. I had told her that I have very thick, heavy and wavy hair that curls up when short. Because it was long it wasn't wavy from the weight of it all and she didn't believe me. This was evident by the cut and the fact that she goes wow you weren't lying after it was done and that curls shrunk up. I came in last July and it was my first haircut since quarantine, I opted for a lob because I wanted to make sure it would be a while again until I got another hair cut. I thought it was fairly simple because I only asked for a straight cut, no layers. I was just really underwhelmed. At $30 for the cut plus a $5 tip -- the whole experience just felt so meh. It was an older lady cutting my hair and I noticed that after I got my cut, there was some strands that were slightly longer than others. I don't know, it was just really disappointing. I got highlights from Leila on a busy Saturday and the experience wasn't good. She took her time and seemed thorough, but unfortunately she doesn't know how to highlight hair that's been previously highlighted, so I got banding on my mids (a row of dark color in the middle section of hair length). What annoyed me further was there were no sinks available when the buzzer rang to wash out my toner. So I had ammonia toner sitting on my hair for about 10 minutes longer than I should have because no sinks were free. Lastly, they didn't ask about Aveda points so I didn't even get credit. I'm only giving one star and that's because of the lady who cut my hair last time before today that actually deserves it. Today I went in for a trim on my layers and cutting two inches of the base of my hair. I wanted long layers, face frame but able to put my bangs behind my ears, and lots of movement and bouncy. I showed Denise two pictures of how I wanted it. I specified during the hair cut if it was going to be short or not because I didn't want my hair to be super short. She said no it's still pretty long. I told her TWO INCHES from the base. The rest of the layers just trim. She in fact did not cut two inches. She cut probably 3-5. I never cried after a haircut ever. I should've known it was going to be a mess after her not washing my hair first before cutting it. Terrible terrible job! Not to mention I specifically asked for someone who's good in layers yesterday for my appointment today. So sad. I came out with the complete opposite. She was pretty nice, I just think she needs to pay attention to what the customer wants and reassure them while not doing whatever she wants. I've never gone home from a haircut and cried before, but there's a first for everything! I've never had an issue with Candace before, as she's my mom's hairdresser and I see her every once in a while when I'm home from college. I've never wanted anything too "crazy" or unorthodox, so I usually just figure anyone will do. I asked for lots of layers, something I was very sure of as I have a bit more of an alternative style and wanted to be able to spike the tips out every once in a while. She didn't touch the long layers I already had in the back other than trimming an inch off my overall length (that's fine, whatever) but I kept asking for more intense face framing. When the shortest part was about where I wanted it, my hair was two starkly different lengths instead of being gradually blended. She blamed my previous hairdresser (in Santa Cruz) despite her being the one that made me realize I liked a lot of layers on myself. As this is going on, she kept making passive aggressive comments about my colored hair. Color is something I take pride in doing myself, as it's far cheaper and a sort of rite of passage in the alt scene. I had rinsed it a bit earlier than I would have because I had already been up late, so there were some parts where the color didn't take as vibrantly as others. Throughout the appointment Candace kept telling me I needed to overlay the color again, pointing out any spots that were slightly lighter, pointing it out to her coworker, and overall making me wildly uncomfortable at the unwarranted critique. It would have been one thing if I had entered the salon and said "what do you think of my color?" No, I didn't ask. I just wanted a haircut. Unwarranted and unwanted "advice" is just straight up criticism and it made me feel bad about myself despite the fact I had really loved my color. She made me feel so ugly so quick, and at a point I just didn't want to keep asking for more layers as she wasn't taking me seriously. I'll just learn to cut it myself or go back to Pleasure Head when I'm back in Santa Cruz. Thinking back, at the beginning of the appointment I asked about her snake bites and whether they bothered her teeth (I've always stayed away from oral piercings from fear of this) and she pulled her lip down to show me. I was genuinely interested, but I realize she never left my side to go wash her hands after having put her fingers in her mouth, and then proceeding to touch and cut my hair. Even pre-covid I would have been grossed out. read more

We've followed Rohei here from Supercuts where we used to go. I didn't realize she owned this salon. Such a great accomplishment for her. She gives precise haircuts and she listens to the specifics of what you're asking for and she delivers a good quality haircut at a very reasonable price. It's great to go after washing your own hair at home and come in while it's still wet and they can cut for you at a good price. However, if you have no time to do this, they can wash and cut for you for a little more. I'm so late in reviewing this place, thanks to a busy schedule, but this salon is amazingly awesome! I had planned to get a haircut for Christmas with the family and I saw all the great reviews on yelp. I walked in, and was told they could fit me in at 1:30pm. As it was nearly noon, I was fine with going to Starbucks next door, grabbing an iced coffee and reading my current book. I arrived at 1:25pm and Laila took me for a haircut and blow dry. Laila looked at the pictures I brought and we talked about length and layers, she made sure she knew what I wanted and checked in with me to make sure I liked it. Her blow out was great and my hair was gorgeous! My total was less than 40 dollars, and that's a steal, considering Blowout Bar is 40 for a wash and blowout.
