I really wish I had looked at reviews before hiring these jokers. I hired them to recaulk my tub and clean and seal my shower grout. They did fine on the caulking although I did have to ask the guy to redo it because initially it didn't look good. Second time around was much better. The real problem was with the grout cleaning. I have posted before and after photos. Can you tell which ones are before and which are after? Me neither. Apparently the steam cleaning method they use is not effective on all types of grout. So why did they even take the job? If they couldn't tell beforehand that it wouldn't be effective, why didn't the guy stop after he had started and let me know it wasn't working? Then after I called up the estimator to let him know the cleaning wasn't effective, he just blew me off and said well you can't expect it to look new. This company is unprofessional and takes no pride in their work. Do not hire them under any circumstances, they are basically a scam. read more

After 12 months, we are continuing to breathe toxic vapors in our bathroom because this firm used "sealant" on the grout to make it a uniform color and supposedly seal out water. They claim to have used H&C water based concrete sealant by Sherwin Williams on grout, which does not appear to be an intended product use. On top of tile damage and the fact that we had to at times supervise the workers attempting to minimize damage to our bathroom, we are suffering health effects from the toxic products, which "keep on giving." Will now have to pay remediation company to try to fix the problems. Cannot recommend this firm on any level. read more

Below is the text I received from the owner after calling and asking someone to come look at an issue we have after we hired them to clean and reseal our marble shower floor. Our issue has nothing to do with the cleaning of the marble or the color of the marble. We now have approximately a 20 inch area with bumps or dots, like the sealant wasn't rubbed in or something like that. He would understand it is way more than "6 dots" if he had taken the time to come take a look and understand the issue. When I spoke to him on the phone he was so rude, defensive and unprofessional, I hung up. The second picture is after I hung up and he texted me. I wish the area was only 1 square inch! Know who you do business with! I will say Nazareth, the technician, who came to our house was very nice. I will echo the reviews that say how easy Grout Medic is to work with and the job looked great when they left. Unfortunately, after a few months, The sealer began to peel off. GM did send repair techs out multiple times to reseal only to have the sealant peel again and again. I finally paid them the minimum charge of $450 to totally redo the entire shower. In less than a month, it started to peel again. I let them know about the problem again, but told them I would not ask for yet another repair. I will just use the touch up sealer they left with me. The website says to redo the work every six to twelve months. If only mine has made it that long. read more

An expensive, temporary solution. The master shower had mold along the floor edges. They steamed the mold and re caulked and assured me that this was a solution to my mold problem. Within a couple of months the mold returned. Despite cleaning with a variety of products, I couldn't keep the mold from growing. I asked The Grout Medic for recommendations for cleaning products and they do not recommend a product. I've tried more natural products and more harsh products, too no avail. Plus, there was an area between the shower and the tub that they damaged the caulking They came back out and caulked again, and repaired the area that was damaged (which they're saying they did for "free" but they wouldn't have had to do if they hadn't knicked it during their service the first time)..The mold returned, they came out again and replaced caulking. This is a process by the way. You can't use your shower for a couple of days so when they have to be there 3 times within the year, it's not convenient. The mold still returns, and the warranty is only for a year. I would've never paid hundreds of dollars for a temporary solution. So disappointing. I'm no better than where I started, except I'm out $648. They also claim the caulking only cost $165.75, but their quote to replace the caulking again is $450. After a year had gone by, I kept calling trying to get ahold of Bruce for a month to discuss how the service was not effective against the mold and that the caulking was peeling up and cracking. Since I wasn't getting anywhere with my calls, I wrote a review. He saw the review and called me very irritated. His response to my review was that "we cannot control how well your shower is cleaned." He said that me writing a review, (after no response for a month but a quote for $450 to call again) was like him writing in Facebook that I'll a terrible person. Mind you I had a very calm tone, I stuck to the facts, yet he was upset with me and in a backhanded way was likening me to a terrible person. I will also say, that I suspect the employee that came out and did the work was not well trained. I can't say for sure what training he had, but he was not very good at caulking. He was very polite though. This was not a solution to my mold problem, and unfortunately it was at my expense. After the way that the owner Bruce spoke to me on the phone, I feel it's important to know that his customer service skills are lacking as well. Read the other one star reviews on other sites. Had $2300 worth of work done on a 12 year old shower. New pan, mud bed, and tile. 72 hours after work was completed, water pools around drain for up to 24 hours. The finish work looked great and we were excited about getting our shower back. Scheduled via a call and e-mail for warranty fix. Work was scheduled for 3 weeks, I scheduled the day off to be there and with 2 phones, voicemail and e-mail never did they contact me, but they cancelled. Only way I found out was a courtesy call from me to confirm the day before. Nope. They state they left VM but smart phones log every call and VM...nothing. Maybe they can get to this work 3 weeks from now, maybe? The issue is with customer service and committing to a work date. It goes both ways. Essentially they are saying my time isn't important. Be aware and ensure not to assume everything is good to go. So we are forced to put a towel down after showers and mold has already started growing because of the sitting water. Update: got back inside of 1week fixed in one day. Satisfied. Interesting Grout Medic hasn't even called to find out if the shower is still holding water. The first tech that came out had to be reminded several times of areas that he just didn't do, then he had to be shown areas that were not done well. He bleached/ruined my bath rugs in the process of working on my master bathroom. Grout Medic said they would reimburse me for the rugs but did not. They didn't respond to any of my emails for a while then finally said again they would reimburse. Waited for check but it never came. It has been over 3 months. I also found a few slivers of glass on the floor...don't know where they came from. NOT satisfied at all. Received a check today. Grout Medic just finished regrouting our tile in the kitchen and two upstairs bathrooms. I was fairly pleased with the downstairs grout but I'm very unhappy about the upstairs bathrooms. 1) Hall bathroom: several spots had missing grout. I pointed the spots out and GM re-patched the next day. So, that was a happy ending. 2) Master bathroom floor tile installation and shower floor/wall grout: -First issue: they didn't cover any of my personal belongings when they started the work. They didn't ask us to move anything either. So, I assumed they were going to cover everything before they start. I was wrong. When I walked into the bathroom at the end of the day - all my toothbrushes, combs, hair products, hair dryer, hair straightener, towels, clothes - EVERYTHING - was covered in dust. I contacted the owner, and complained. They did clean up the next day but it's just common sense that no customer would be happy to find all their bathroom toiletries covered in dust. 2) Second issue: On the last day in the master bathroom, they reinstalled the toilet (they removed it to install the new tile). At lunchtime, I noticed a water bubble on the kitchen ceiling, right in the spot where the toilet is upstairs (which they had just reinstalled). I pointed it out to them but they kept insisting that they didn't cause the leak (we had no other contractors in the house, didn't use the master bathroom in the entire time they were working on it and had stopped using that bathroom altogether a few weeks prior to the remodel because the grout was worn out and I didn't want to risk causing any mold issue). They didn't do anything about the leak, didn't offer to fix it for us, and left. When I emailed the owner asking if they can send in a plumber to see if the contractors, in fact, installed the toilet properly, there was no further response from the owner (Bruce Lane). I had to call multiple plumbers to find someone who could come in and take a look ASAP. I finally found one who came in, reinstalled the toilet, caulked the base of the toilet, cut part of the wet ceiling, made sure there was no more water leaking, and left. Now I have a huge hole in my kitchen, part of the ceiling still wet because plumbers don't remove all of your wet ceilings (just enough to investigate) nor repair the ceilings. I'm expecting a water damage restoration company tomorrow to cut the rest of the wet sheetrock, dry the wood, and repair and paint the ceiling. 3) Third issue: my husband just took a shower in the newly-grouted master bathroom. After showering, we noticed huge cracks in the grout. There is absolutely no grout in some spots, and the shower is wet. Great recipe for mold! I had emailed Bruce my pictures of the missing grout, but he hasn't yet responded. (picture of the newly grouted shower which already has cracks is attached) 4) Fourth issue: they don't wear any shoe covers. I had to ask them to not walk on our carpet with their shoes on. Some complied, but every day somebody new would appear at the house and walk with their dusty/dirty shoes on my already old carpet that I'm trying my best to maintain clean. 3) Fifth issue: They don't provide any materials which is a huge inconvenience for full-time working folks. You are expected to run to Home Depot after work and buy tile/floor molding. To reiterate, GROUT MEDIC has been a NIGHTMARE. DO NOT USE THEM, especially for recaulking the shower. They are using an acrylic caulk product that the manufacturer's technical department doesn't recommend using along the shower pan, as it is not designed for high water contact areas and will likely degrade within a year or two. I've spoken to a number of other bathroom remodelers/tile professionals and they all agreed that silicone caulk should have been used. Grout Medic came back with a myriad of excuses 1. They don't carry colored silicone caulk anymore (the manufacturer says they do and that's what they recommend for showers) 2. You should squeegie/dry your shower every day anyway (doesn't eliminate the fact you are taking a shower in it and it's going to be hit with water and steam regularly) 3. You need to replace caulk regularly anyway and the acrylic caulk would last as long as the silicone caulk (I would hope it lasts more than a year or two, and the manufacturer said the silicone based caulk would last much longer in the shower environment) 4. The product packaging says it can be used in showers (according to conversations with the manufacturer, it's only suitable for shower walls not along the shower floor). I don't know the real reason why they are using the product they are using now but they are using a product not for its intended function and will not last. read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would! This has been one of the worst experiences and services I have ever received. Jason is definitely good at his job selling his company, but the techs he send out to execute the job are extremely untrained on how to correctly complete the job and unprofessional leaving trash through your house. We hired The Grout Medic to paint and seal the grout in our whole downstairs. They sent one tech who rushed through the job and it shows. After the tech left we noticed multiple areas that were very sloppy (paint all of our tiles, haze over the entire downstairs, areas that were missed completely). We spoke with Jason who agreed to send the tech back. The second time he used the wrong color, painted on the tiles even more and again left monster cans throughout the house. We reached out again explaining our issues with the job done. Jason agreed to send someone out, but they never showed up and Jason stopped responding. The company provides a one-year guarantee on their work, but it's completely worthless since they don't stand behind their work. They do a good job sending a person out to sell the work, but the folks that do the work are not very good. They also don't take responsibility for their work and try to blame it on homeowners. We had about $2,300 worth of work of work done on two bathrooms. We had several issues from damaging our bathroom drywall wall and subpar work quality. During the job, they had to send someone else out to assess the work since it wasn't being done well. Consequently, they needed to redo a rebuild of our shower curb. They also had to come back out to regrout a part of a shower wall because the grout had not been mixed properly and began washing away in the subsequent months. When we needed them to come back out to address another quality issue in the different bathroom, they told me they would not be honoring the warranty and referred me some other companies. read more

The work done did not cover what was discussed with the estimator. Expensive for work that was done and not very neat at all. When I complained to the office I received an e-mail rather than a phone call. When I explained that I discussed the floor to get cleaned in addition to other work with the estimator, the answer was, it's not in the estimate and the matter is closed. This company came out to do a grout job in our bathroom upstairs. They finished up it looked good. My fiance did a walk through quickly as we were all headed out. There was an item left in the floor blocking one small area which he did not think anything of as the shower looked great. We close the door and all leave. Two hours later we return I run upstairs to see for myself and notice a quarter size hole in my wall right above the trim. We call and are give a song and dance by the worker and the owner. The bathroom was completely redone 1.5 years ago. The grout came up in two smaller areas which is why we had them come in. However, everything else was very new. After 3 calls of denying and a call back to say well come back, but we didn't do it. I told the owner no thanks, after the last of customer service and over all condescending attitude I will have it fixed. Please save yourself the trouble and call another contractor. read more

Grout Medic (Morrisville) re-grouted all three of my bathrooms. The two repairmen sent to my home were pleasant and professional. However, the color of the grout used was darker than the sample showed to us and it was a sanded versus smooth texture leaving a sloppy rough looking finish. Some of the baseboards had to be replaced as well. They replaced one of the sections of wood with two pieces instead of one piece which was there before and filled the gap in. This looks very sloppy and not the professional job we were expecting. Upon completion of the work payment was rendered and when we asked the repairman if this would be corrected. He advised that he would let the office know and they would check the schedule for availability to send someone back out. The next morning all received was an email with an estimate for an additional charge. My wife called the office immediately and was advised that we would receive a call back, we did not. We sent an email to the office (owner) and as well and have not heard anything from them. They obviously were only interested in getting paid and not concerned about customer satisfaction or quality of the services provided. I just wrote a check for $370 to a grout company to correct what Grout Medic charged me $4,096 for. I'm not happy. I've taken a couple of weeks to get some perspective on this job and this review before I posted it. I wanted to calm down a bit and let some of the frustration subside. In a nutshell, I'm dissatisfied with the job I received, and I'm very frustrated with my communications with the owner, Bruce. He wouldn't admit any mistakes, always had an excuse, and with each communication he made me feel as if I was wrong and he was right. This was frustrating at first, and then infuriating as the relationship collapsed. I hired Grout Medic to replace some marble tile in my shower around my new shower pan, and to replace some glass tile on the back wall of my master shower, and re-install the shower door. Here is a partial list of some of the things that went wrong: 1) On job #1, they installed the glass tile on the back wall of the shower upside down (which they of course denied. When I showed a picture of the tile to Byrd Tile - the tile company who sold me the tile - they told me the "repeat pattern" was obviously installed upside down). In addition, the glass tile was also very different in color than the sample I saw at Byrd tile, and since Grout Medic picked the tile up from Byrd, I had not checked it before installation (this was my fault, and from now on, I'll monitor each job every step of the way...). 2) Job #2 was to have them back to now install the porcelain tile and re-install the shower door. When they were done, the grout was (is) bleach white and doesn't match the other marble tile's grout at all. REALLY sticks out! 3) When I called the company to complain about the obvious color difference, they told me it can't be done ("Read the contract - we don't guarantee anything" was their answer). Now this is completely different from what they told me when they bid the job. They assured me they would "match the grout color" and that they "were experts" and that they do it all the time, and that I would be happy. Wrong. 4) Next, they couldn't re-install the shower door. They said a piece was missing. When I got the invoice, though, they still charged me $200 of the $295 quote for installing the shower door which they didn't do! When I called to question the charge, they claimed they attempted to re-install it and that it would cost me $200 for their (failed) attempt. In reality, all they did was screw the two metal rails into existing holes and lay the top metal part on (that took 15 minutes max) and then give up. When I complained about this they put up another fit but eventually took the $200 off. 5) I finally sent them an email saying I was not satisfied with their job and wanted to give them an opportunity to make the job right before I placed my review on Angie's List. This didn't go over too well with them. They became even more defensive, claiming they had done nothing wrong (oh, did I mention they missed a piece of tile at the bottom of the shower pan which they had to send someone over to re-caulk - poorly, I might add), and in my last conversation with Bruce, yelled at me saying he would be "happy to come over and color seal it again - but it won't help and you won't be happy - but I'll do it if that's what you want!" O.K., now this is a perfect example of why it's so frustrating to communicate with Bruce. First, it's clear he wouldn't be happy to do this. And second, he's telling me it won't help and that I won't be happy, so what's the point? It's clear he just wanted to be able to say, "We bent over backwards to make this customer happy, and I'm happy to go back and do what he wants....." Do you see how infuriatingly frustrating this is? Every problem or complaint I had went this way. 6) Lastly - as a parting shot at me, when I called to pay the bill, I asked Melanie (the office worker) specifically what the total was - even put her on speaker phone so my wife could hear - and she clearly told me the total was $1,776. I then confirmed the total again before I gave her my credit card, and then I expected to pay that amount - wouldn't you? Nope, misrepresented again. When the receipt came back, they had charged me $1,829.20! When I complained, I was told in that I was paying a credit card charge of 3%. First of all - when I paid the first invoice by credit card, I wasn't charged 3%, and when Melanie told me the total ($1,776 clearly stated to me) she DID NOT mention this service charge at all! I find that sneaky and passive aggressive. If you're looking for tile or grout work, my advice is to keep looking... read more

Our bathroom was disgusting: moldy caulking, holes in the grout, stained/dirty grout. Bruce came by and provided an estimate. A gal answering their phones also returned my calls and left a detailed message as I asked, since I have trouble making/taking calls M-F day because of work. Bruce was prompt, professional and answered all my questions. The work was done recently, including removing metal shower door frame off the tub AND trimming baseboard, to add 2 edge tiles near the floor, and the area looks NEW. Caulk lines are cleanly done. Everything is white, sealed, and the technician cleaned the tub also! Which I did not expect. Only downside is a 3% credit card fee added, it's a little more expensive than I thought & husband had to take time off work since they only work M-F daytime, but I'm so happy with the end result, those are tolerable in the end. We had two bathroom showers regrouted and one re color sealed and the floor regrouted. Jim, our technician, did a great job. He cleaned out the drain of our walk in shower and throughly cleaned the small "soap shelf". All the mildew is gone and all the small cracks are gone in all three showers. He took off and cleaned and reinstalled our shower door, works like new. He sealed the bottom outside of the shower so it looks nice and stopped all the small leaks through the cracks at the bottom by the door. Very reasonably priced, much much more economical than tearing out an entire bathroom and starting over. read more

The receptionist was nice enough and the scheduling went fine. When Bruce the owner came out to give me a quote he seemed knowledgable and answered my questions. The problem was with the technician! He was surly and difficult to communicate with. After he finished the job the first time he had several excuses as to why the slate would not come clean. You cannot walk on it for 24 hours, so when I had a chance to really look it over it was not clean,in fact he left several spots of paint drips on the floor as well as many areas were still very dirty. And he had to repair and regrout an area which he did very poorly causing a big dip and bump that was a trip hazard especially since it was in a threshold! So when he came out a second time to re clean and fix the bump he was again rude. Finally after an extended conversation with his boss he fixed the grout so that it was not so uneven. Overall I thought this company was very expensive, $600 for a 10 by 5 hall. The technician did a very mediocre job and was surly and rude as well. Do not ever use this company !!!! read more

We contracted to have shower updated.......new shower pan, membrane and tile work, along with REinstallation of existing glass surround panels. Asked for references that I could 'call and speak with' and Bruce Lane, estimator and president of Grout Medic said he would provide. Never received them so I called and Jennifer said she would have someone call me. I called back a day or 2 later and she said they do not provide names and contact info and I should check HomeAdvisor or other such web sites and call neighbors in the area. I told her.......tear up my contract and refund any deposits you charged to my card if you will not provide names and contact info on references. She said......we will not provide that info. I told her that they must have a list of references that are willing to be contacted for references and she said they do not. She emailed me confirmation of the contract cancellation and assured me my credit card would not be charged. If you can't get a reference to contact......BEWARE. I had no problem getting names and contact numbers for plumbers, roofers, landscapers and carpenters.....even Lowes carpet installers.
