My husband and I reserved a room at the Gridley inn for 1 night! We had tickets to a concert at the Lincoln hills farm and didn't feel like the hour and a half drive home afterwards! We did notify them that we'd like to do an early check in seeing that the concert opened doors at 5! My husband also notified the b&b that I had an allergy to nuts and apples. We arrived around 4 pm and we had to ring the bell. We were greeted by a woman who did not introduce herself but we surely introduced ourselves! We were met by a very gruff woman who was the owner! Made sure to tells us no food in the rooms or drink! Use the common room! Being very accommodating people and very much the rule followers we said ok! Once in our rooms we found ourselves whispering, and my husband actually said why are we whispering, I quickly reply that that woman scares me! The house and our room was gorgeous, clean and well appointed. There were lots of places to sit inside and outside. We never took advantage of those, and also given that the owners always hung around the public spaces we understood why the other guests all waited outside for breakfast. (Not using the china, of course) To make a very long story short the owners are very over bearing! Both are crass and not welcoming! We could not use the "good" china outside of the dining room! My husband asked for orange juice and he got none, I drank mine and didn't feel comfortable to ask for more! There was suppose to be water available to all guest, when there was none, instead of offering to get us some they argued with each other about why there was no water! My husband and I just said Diet Coke is fine! We just grabbed our stuff and left! It must be noted that we are not new to bed and breakfasts! We have actually stayed in quite a few! We have always felt welcomed and more than comfortable! Not the case here! When you are not comfortable asking for orange juice there is a problem! read more

The Gridley is a wonderful gem in Waterloo. The hosts, Stephani and Madison, are friendly and knowledgeable. Stephanie is a wealth of knowledge and will keep you entertained as you genuinely delight in Madison's homemade, fresh breakfast. The Inn is within 10-30 min of all major attractions, vineyards, casino, restaurants, women's historical society, museum, and E Cady Stanton's home. Warm hospitality and delicious breakfasts! This is our home base when we visit Hobart and William Smith Colleges - our SECOND STAY AT THE GRIDLEY! Our one week stay was very comfortable. We enjoyed meeting the other guests over delicious breakfasts that were meticulously prepared by Chef Maddy. These included fresh home made berry preserves, home made cherry crepes, French toast with home made raisin bread, sous vide eggs Benedict, and many others! We ended each day having great casual conversation with Stephanie in the beautiful living room. We look forward to our next visit! Here's my first review in April 2017: Gourmet breakfast! Quiet bed & breakfast in Geneva, close to Hobart William & Smith Colleges (15 minute drive). Owners, Stephani and Madison made us feel at home when my daughter and I came for a college visit. Madison prepared a delicious gourmet breakfast each day. This morning, she prepared delicious sous-vide eggs topped with a garlic herb cheese, salmon, and capers, along with thick slab bacon and tomato. The meal was preceded by a yogurt granola and pineapple starter, topped with cream, and a delicious pastry. So, if you're looking for someplace quiet and out of the ordinary, in a historic home, with excellent food, and friendly hostesses, this is it! Our bedroom was super quiet and comfortable. Upon arrival at the Gridley, on-street parking was the only option. The house itself presented well, and upon entering was a transport in time with Victorian decor floor to ceiling, and was quite lovely. The room was spacious very comfortable, and well appointed. Rules were clearly established before ascending to our room. Madison served a well prepared and enjoyable breakfast. Then Stephanie entered the breakfast room and promptly dispensed rude and crude commentary and stated "Feel free to not hang around after breakfast." Nobody did. Within five minutes all guests had fled the hotel. I thought the large portrait of Marilyn Manson was inappropriate in a Victorian manor, and the host's commentary at breakfast was foul. This system doesn't let you give half a star, but I would rate it at 3 1/2 out of 5 based on the poor behavior of the host. If Stephanie hadn't disgraced us with her presence, I'd be more generous with my stars. read more

This was a delightful place to stop as we crossed the state. It lived up to the positive reviews in every respect. Our Garden room was spacious and immaculate, with a fresh and modern bathroom. Breakfast was delicious, a Dutch Baby topped with berries for both my husband and me. They were perfectly sized and well-prepared. We requested a slightly earlier breakfast, since we had to be on the road to continue our trip. It was ready exactly at the requested time, hot and very tasty! read more

I booked this inn because it was minimal that my girl friend and I were going to be spending time in there as we planned several day trips... However, upon checking in, she had to ring the bell 4 times to get someone to answer the door. We were told that there was to be no eating and drinking in the rooms, but there were common rooms to do so... fine... not a huge deal. But the tone of the owner, Stephanie, was very abrupt and to us as we exited the came and went, and we were told we needed to clean up after ourselves when we asked if a microwave was available... I noticed that that was not the case for the older guests, and my friend and I are both nearly 40 years old... I did not appreciate that from my own parents at this point, let alone a place where I'm paying to stay, and seeing as how both myself and my friend worked in the hospitality industry in our lives, it was unnecessary. That being said, the bed was extremely comfortable. The room with the toilet was VERY small and I can't imagine anyone with longer legs fitting well. The cleanliness of the room was good. The common areas were very nice as well. This Inn was not very good for the disabled though as the steps are steep and the chair rail does not reach the top and there are steps to both get INTO front door and steps to get down to the different rooms. So, not ideal if someone is disabled. :/ read more

This review is really going to be more about the bed because we did not get to experience the breakfast. The place is nice and very clean. Our stay was comfortable enough. Now on to why we didn't get to experience breakfast. We knew we had to be back on the road early so an 8:45 breakfast was too late for us. Knowing this we asked for an earlier breakfast as mentioned on their website. The response we got from Steph one of the owners made us so uncomfortable, like we were majorly putting them out. This was disappointing so we just decided to get up early and leave. We could have pushed it and the woman checking us in did say to talk to the other owner/chef but we did not see her when we got in that night. The initial experience put a real sour taste in our mouth, had we not had reservations we probably would have moved down the road. This is the total opposite of everything I read here read more

The room we stayed in was quite comfortable, with good temperature control and a well-appointed bathroom. The front porch is a nice place to have a glass of tea or wine in the evenings. The tasty breakfasts which start later than many B&Bs we have stayed in (they do say they can accommodate earlier ones, but we didn't want to put them out), are leisurely and peppered with earthy humor that not all will appreciate. read more

I really loved it!!! A beautiful house and attention is a total success! If you want to enjoy a quiet and peaceful time, and also start each morning with a dose of humor this is the place, !!! When you visit, you will understand why, without doubt a place that I recommend and that I enjoy a lot. Also they give you coupons from many vineyards and farms and it's amazing they're great, we used them almost all, three brothers and the cheese farm were my favorites. Seneca Lake is super close and there are many things to do. The breakfast is very good, the chef do an amazing pastry, and the attention is wonderful. read more

Stephani and Madison were the best hostesses ever! We held a tea party baby shower at the Inn and could not have more pleased. The food, service , and ambience were top notch. We stayed at the Inn for two nights and were extremely pleased with the accommodations and hospitality. Madison prepared delicious breakfasts and tea party fare. And she is quite the pool player, teaching my young niece and nephew a few tricks while we got ready for the baby shower. Stephanie, running the "front of the house", kept us entertained with her endless knowledge of the area, and made us feel like family with her breakfast and late night discussions. My sisters and I had the best time at the Gridley...it felt like home. We can't wait to come back!! read more

We had such a great time staying at the Gridley Inn! Stephani and Madison were excellent hosts and made us feel very welcome. The house itself is so beautiful and the owners did a great job providing it with modern updates while maintaining the historic ambiance of the building. Our room was clean, very comfy and cosy. Stayed here for one-night just for a short weekend getaway and everything from the hosts to the breakfast to the rooms were amazing. When we arrived we were warmly welcomed and offered complementary juice, water, coffee, tea, and cookies. We were given a quick tour of the property which was beautifully decorated and expansive. There are a lot of games available to play and the common areas are nice to watch TV as well or just hang out. We stayed in the Academy room, with two very comfortable twin beds. The room also had a nice A/C unit which was great coming in from the summer heat. Breakfast was served in the morning with coffee and juice. Overall, everything about this B&B was wonderful. The hospitality of the hosts, the rooms, the breakfast, the location, free wifi, and parking all great. I would definitely recommend for your next trip upstate and I will definitely be staying again as well. read more

This was our first visit to the Gridley Inn and my wife and I couldn't have been more pleased with this beautiful old Victorian styled B&B. Stephani Krzsyik and Madison Ulmer (chef) were wonderful hosts and met our every need during our three day visit. The Gridley Inn is located right in the heart of Waterloo, NY and within very easy access to local restaurants and sightseeing attractions. The breakfasts were outstanding; everything from gourmet omelets to fresh made banana bread to delicious pancakes and sorbets. The food was delicious and the service was superb. My wife and I will definitely stay in the Gridley Inn B&B next time we are in the Finger Lakes. read more

This was the third visit by my mom and sister, my first visit. We were in the area for a wine tour. It was a wonderful experience! It is a charming Victorian that Stephani and Maddie (the owners) have been restoring over the years (looks lovely to me, my mom and sister tell me that they are doing a great job as they have seen it develop/improve over their 3 visits). The bed was comfy and the sheets/bedding was high quality. They had a large array of travel toiletry items in the room in case a guest forgets anything (not just soap and shampoo). The WIFI was easy to access and quick. They have ample parking in the back. The owners are super friendly and accommodating (Maddie made delicious blueberry muffins for us as we wanted an early start and wouldn't be around for the regular breakfast). They visited with us like family/old friends. It was really quite enjoyable. I can't wait to come back. read more
