Well, the reason I went inside and ordered a beer was simply because I thought the name was pretty cool, until I realised that it was because there used to be a slaughterhouse in the area. Yeah, it isn't too bad a pub, but it didn't really jump out at me as some of them have. Yeah, it's nice, but there are no doubt much better ones in the area.

The acts are a mix of people you think you may have heard of and complete unknowns, but the laughs are good and frequent. Slightly more upper crust than the likes of the Rawhide shows in Baa Bar Myrtle Street on a Tuesday night, but as much fun as sitting with a group of mates whilst watching 'Live at the Apollo', obviously with the added bonus of it being right on your lap as opposed to on the telly.

The RC doesn't rely on public or arts funding so has to hold it's own and I think deserves praise for what it does. The theatre pieces here might not be high brow - Slappers and Slapheads being a notable example! - but these shows are mainly penned by local writers and performed by well known faces from across the Northwest. Since the summer of 2005 the building has been extensively refurbished - most particularly in the stalls which has been converted into cabaret style seating with tables for drinks and easy access for waiters and waitresses. The last time I went here, was to see a poetry performance on a school trip. I was impressed by the whole atmosphere and size of the arena as on first glance, it appears small from the outside but it has to be seen to be believed! Since then, it has dramatically changed and now it's even better.

I telephoned ATG tickets to ask for an exchange but was told I couldnt change as not 48 hours notice. How can anyone give 48 hours notice of illness! I had taken out ticket protection but it seems this is only for the ticket holder and as I wasnt ill I have now lost nearly £300 and my familys including my grandchildren's Christmas present has been ruined. Do not take out ticket protection. Waste of money. There are still seats available for this show so why they couldnt be exchanged I do not know. Impossible to get in touch with theatre direct. Can only deal with ATG tickets! Will be putting this on facebook too.

Couldn't get tickets for this show in Manchester so we got them for Liverpool …read more. Came to watch The Impossible for my Sons birthday as he loves all magic & Dare devil stunts. The show was amazing from start to finish with illusions, magic & tricks... The Theatre reminds me of the Palace in Manchester which I love... Lovely bar area for refreshments during interval, but a little pricey bought my son a small tub of ice cream which cost £4. Definitely will return to this theatre though .

Prices for shows are very reasonable and can be booked in advance. Popular shows get booked up very quickly so be quick.

The atmosphere was terrific…read more The venue itself needs a bit of TLC and it's a shame the Capital of Culture funds thought it more important to build a shopping centre (yawn) and not throw money at a theatre that provides local plays which from my experience everybody can enjoy. A great night out. A great laugh. I would definitely go again.
