Lakeside has retained the marine lake to perform numerous wet sports activities such as canoeing and yachting, kayaking, wind surfing and raft building. There are now lots of dry activities also available: cycling climbing and orienteering and a well appointed fitness suite. Lakeside welcome disabled and special needs visitors and people of all abilities. The facilities here are undeniably good and quite unique to the area; an invitaion for tourists and a great boost for the local economy. There is on site accommodation at "Lakeside Lodge", 14 en suite bedrooms with all guest requirements; even more incentive to visti from further afield. The dining facilities at "Lakeside Bistro" make for perfect after sports sustenance or an evening out. enjoy apertifs with sea views from the roof top terrace, or have breakfast overlooking the yachts sailing on the marina.

It looks a fairly new addition to Crosby beach, perhaps cashing in on the success of Antony Gormley's 'Another Place'. On a hot Tuesday we decided to head for the Lakeside Bistro (within the activity centre) for a cold drink and a bite to eat. The décor is modern and clean and the food is extremely well priced, we got two meals and two drinks for less than £7! I had no complaints about the bistro or its service, some of the other diners may have been less content. At one point the kitchen was temporarily closed so it could deal with a back log of orders and the large queue of hungry beach goers looked decidedly put out. The bistro looks out onto its stunning surroundings and also onto the fantastic children's play area, from which my fiancée had to hold me back.

Like its sibling, Stamps Too is a great place to meet up with friends for a few quiet drinks or a few heavy ones before heading out to town. The atmosphere in the pub is relaxed and friendly, helped by the chatty and sociable bar staff. The drinks are fairly reasonably priced, meaning you can get pretty pissed without spending too much money (always a good way to get popular as a drinking establishment) and the ales and lager they have on offer are a lot better than most of the pubs around the area. The open plan of the front of Stamps Too also means that on nice days the pleasant weather is swept into the pub for all to enjoy. Not so pleasant on those horrible days we get quite often, though. Can get quite busy of a night-time, but if you're looking for a nice pint in an enjoyable and sociable atmosphere, I'd highly recommend Stamps Too (or Stamps, for that matter).

It proximity to Waterloo train station is great for going into town or southport for a night out and usually have a drink here before getting the train and then having another drink or two when coming home. Great live music. Only downside is there is only one ladies loo and it usually stinks. It's meant to be wheelchair accessible but it's not really. The staff are very friendly

There is a separate dining area at the back if you want a more á la carte dining experience. The bar has recently been refurbished and really looks the part. There's lots of quiet alcoves and intimate seating areas. This makes it a more enjoyable place to have a drink rather than some of the more crowded, rowdy bars in the area. It's also a good place to hold a function or to meet up for a few drinks prior to heading off to an event. Recommended if you're in the area and want to avoid South Road.

My husband and I go quite often but it was our friends first visit. In October I rang to book a table for 10/12/16. Something came up and so I rang to change the booking for last night. We paid 8.00 for a taxi and arrived 15 mins early for our table. We were all hungry and looking forward to the steaks. On arrival we waited a few mins before we were welcomed by a gentleman who asked if he could help. We said we had a table booked. He could not find the booking. I explained that I had changed the date, so he looked at the 10th and my booking was still there. No bar meals were being served, the restaurant was full and so was the cabaret lounge. It was 8pm on a cold wintery evening and the gentleman could offer us nothing. I asked for the manager and he said he was the manager. He didn't offer us the taxi fare, a drink or anything in way of apology for his staffs error. Not very good customer service, is it Liam? Loyal customers are the ones you should want to keep happy, not send away angry.

The predecessor- demolished to make room for this undeniably peculiar construction- was vast, granted it was falling apart and you shared your locker with a family of cockroaches, but it was enormous. Many galas were hosted there and the atmosphere was fantastic as cheers echoed from the stands. In my opinion its replacement is something of a disappointment; the 25metre pool seems barely larger than the learner's puddle. However, I concede this is a "leisure centre" and offers much more than just a pool boasting squash and badminton courts; cricket nets; a fully equipped, unisex gym; health suite and cafe bar. An extensive timetable is offered both for the pool- which incorporates public swim; aquazone; ladies swim; 50+; family splash and Crosby Swim Club - and the dance studio, which offers aerobics and yoga classes amongst others. I think Crosby is lucky to have such a comprehensive centre on its doorstep, but the resounding title "Crosby baths" is enduring and with each utterance comes a little nostalgia
