This is a tough place to review because it's a bit of a wildcard. As home to a hostel, the crowd can be mellow or party-like. There's not much of a locals scene, so it all depends on the travelers in house. The pub does host comedy acts and karaoke, so they help. I have, hoever, found some of the staff to be unfriendly. I have been walking by this pub on my way home every day for over a year now but I never got in (mainly because no one else is around this area with me). However, I decided to give it a go on Sunday for lunch/dinner. The menu is very straightforward, half of it is burgers and half sharing platters. It also boasts one of the top 5 burgers in London. I decided to try the farmyard burger with beef, ham hock and duck egg. It is not possible to eat it with your hands so get those knife and form skills working. The burger also came with skin on chips which were quite nice. I have to say it was a challenge trying to finish it off because it was very filling. And I didn't need to eat anything else for the rest of the day. I will definitely be going back to try their christmas menu as the burgers with stuffing and venison sound awesome. In terms of drinks, I know that the pub gets quite busy in weeknights with people having a pint after work but I still think I would not go to it after dark. As I pass by it every day I have seen a fair amount of rowdy people so it's better to be there in the morning when the patrons are sober and won't start saying things as you walk by.. #girlproblems read more

I would make a couple of things understood. First, this pub is owned by Green King, a large conglomerate with hundreds of locations in the UK. It is not a locally owned drinking spot. Secondly, know how things are in the pubs. You first find a table and get it's number. You then go to the bar and order and pay for your food which is brought to the table. These very noisy places are not where you come for a relaxed dining experience. The menus in the pubs are strikingly similar and feature many standards including scampi (Brit for shrimp) and chips, my meal. It was also served with peas. The shrimp was only comprised of pieces. The peas and chips were about like those found just about anywhere in the UK. Overall, the food offerings here are about the same as found in any pub. As I have indicated, this is a pub experience to be found just about anywhere around London. It's good, but nothing memorable. read more

Decent pub that was fairly packed with people drinking beer. Some of our group wanted fish and chips, and upon seeing a fish and chips burger decided they could most likely get it without the burger. However, upon closer inspection, it was baked fish, not fried. The burgers were fairly small, which was OK with me. It was a good burger on fresh bread. I upgraded my fries to the spicy with blue cheese sauce, but there was so little blue cheese sauce, it was hardly worth it. The peppers were very hot, so I pulled them aside. There were an assortment of beers and a full bar. What was sad is that we did not see the small sign listing the daily special at the register, so make sure to check or ask. At least 2 of us would have ordered it instead. It was called the Sloppy Bastard, with chili. The seats were not the most comfortable, most having no back. There were TVs and earlier in the evening, I noticed no one else was eating, which made me wonder if we were in a good place. In the end, we were all happy with the choice. You order at the bar. For our group, they took all orders from each of us lining up at the bar. We then paid separately when we were done. It worked out very well. For a bit extra, you can have a bowl of peanuts. For a beer and a cheesy burger, I was set back just over 14 GBP. Also affiliated with this property is a youth hostel, so be prepared for a lot of young people coming and going with luggage. I stayed in the Pub Love hostel with friends, so we decided to try out the pub below us. I ordered the juicy bastard burger, which was rated as one of the top 5 burgers in London. It was good, but I wouldn't say it was one of the best burgers i've ever had. The fries were good, as with the pale ale. If you stay in the hostel, you get 10% off your check which is nice. The service was very friendly, but you have to order and pay at the bar. I'm not sure if this is normal in London or not. read more

Guys, don't stay in this place, it's not safe, you can stay on the street just like I did. I had a reservation, I arrived early at the hostel, I left the bags, because the check-in time is from 2 pm. I get back to the hostel around 6pm, tired after wandering around London, and the lady who claims to be a supervisor says that my reservation had been cancelled. They left me helpless on the street. She simply canceled my reservation for more expensive rent. She was super unfriendly from the beginning, my recommendation, do not stay at this hotel. My situation was frusting MY SITUATION WAS FRUSTING. I just wish this lady had a lot of karma in her life, because that doesn't work. I work in a hotel and I know how things work. I never heard before that they canceled our reservation on the day of our stay, without even mentioning why they did this. They just want your money, they are not friendly and they don't care about the guests. RUN FROM THIS PLACE, HERE IS A TRAP. read more

The Green Man is a pub and hostel right on Edgware Road. A few months ago, they put up new signs that sounded like something I should check out, "Burger Craft". When I went there, I did not expect too much, I thought it would just be another average pub burger, but I was impressed by their decent burger. I went for the Bacon BACON Bacon burger and it was really a treat. I found the bacon jam a hint too sweet, but overall, it was a very good burger. The skin-on fries were average, nice and crisp, but because they were quite thin, there was not much skin. The wine list looks good and I thoroughly enjoyed a glass of the Picpoul de Pinet. Being a hostel, all kinds of people, young travellers, random guests and also locals hang around, which makes for a nice and relaxed atmosphere. It reminded me a bit of the fun days when I was living at a hostel for some time. Burger Craft at The Green Man is easily the best place for a burger on Edgware Road (I know, that is perhaps not too difficult, but still an achievement). They also do live acoustic nights, so I might pop in again soon for music and drinks. read more

As far as hostels go, this one is definitely one of the better ones in London, though it is a bit out of the way from the central part of the city. If you don't mind a walk down Edgeware Road to Hyde Park before cutting over towards the Thames and the more famous sites, it could be a good fit. The bunks were comfy enough and I remember sleeping like a babe, though I could hear music downstairs. I must've been too exhausted to care at that point, having walked to and from the Tate Modern earlier in the day. read more

This is a great little pub close to where In was staying. I tried the mac and cheese burger with fries. They got the order slightly off, no biggie, but the mac n cheese was awful. I think it made the burger worse. The service was outstanding and the beer was fantastic. I highly recommend bringing your mates here for a pint, but skip the mac n cheese. read more

A cool, young pub and hostel. Because it's also a hostel, there are a lot of young travelers hanging about every day, and it's very easy to just join a group of people and make some new friends! Live music on Thursdays (with some halfway decent acoustic singers), and open mic/karaoke/pub poker on other nights. The staff is friendly (or at least not unfriendly), and seeing all the confused (American) tourists trying to check in at the bar is always amusing. read more

This review is mostly on the hostel. Needed a place to crash for a night. Single room was comfortable and clean, ok value. Never stayed above a pub, so this was a new experience. The staff managing the hostel and the pub were helpful, and had a selection of beer on tap to grab a pint while waiting to be checked into the hostel. Never ordered from the menu, but the free breakfast was filling. Might order from a Burger Craft location the next time I'm in London. Not exactly my type of place to hang out during the evening, but the crowd seems diverse with the after work office types from nearby and travelers upstairs at the hostel. read more

Used this place a few times when in London for England footy matches. Hostel upstairs is good value, food is nice (half price burgers 12-3pm), real ales on draught, and bar stays open late for residents. Near to circle and bakerloo lines. Pretty cool all round. read more

Extremely convenient to the Hilton Metropole where we are staying this week in London. Must be good as we had the first night as take out and after a long day of London sightseeing we stopped in this evening for a second round. Very friendly and engaging staff. Mediocre food and slow service, local traffic clientele mostly, reasonably agreeable crowd. Super noisy (not least because of sirens) and the clientele is mostly smokers who stand immediately outside the always open front door. basic quiet pub (at 18:00 hrs anyway). it is okay if you like fizzy lager bier stuff (7 choices on draft) but not good if you like real beer, only John Smiths and Bombardier on draft, and the Bombardier was cloudy. read more
