The extra star is purely out of loyalty for my Dad's local boozer and the convenience of being able to walk there and stumble home within a 5 minute timeframe.
I have frequented this pub on and off over the past 6 years or so and it has undergone a few changes. The most disappointing was the removal of the pool tables from the sunken area - this used to be a lovely hub of friendly banter and casual pool-playing. It was probably how my Dad got to know so many people and it provided a great evening activity.
When the Grebe was taken over a couple of years ago it underwent some refurbishment and now it looks like a wannabe modern pub. But underneath the shiny B&Q wallpaper the same stinky Grebe remains.
This is a small local pub in chav-central, it really should do a Ronseal and give its punters what it wants; Jaeger-bombs, grubby pool tables and nightly footie. No need to fanny about with leather sofas, no-one is interested.
If you aren't a fan of X-Factor wannabes on karaoke or off-key local bands, avoid on a Friday and Saturday night. Otherwise it is a rather laid-back pub.
It could be worse, but then it could be a lot better. I am just not a fan of local pubs trying to do it townie-style. read more
