Do you like being looked down upon, if you don't meet the 'look' that this store is going for? If that sounds like a ton of fun for you, then head on over to 1107 Abbot Kinney Blvd in Venice, CA.
My wife and I had just spent the morning at Venice Beach. We were in a great mood and headed back to our hotel to wash off the sand, and then to browse some local stores. We walked by "The Great" and thought, hey this looks like a fun place to check out.
As soon as we entered, it was like a scene out of Mean Girls. Both staffers (one White and one Asian woman) looked us up and down and must have made the determination that our attire wasn't up to snuff because they turned to each other, whispered, laughed, and then continued browsing on their phones. I'd give them the benefit of the doubt and say they just were two retail sales employees who hated their jobs, and there was no ill intent...except for the fact that then two other customers walked in about a minute after us, looking like they stepped off a runway. Immediately, both staffers sprung into action like a lion had discovered a zebra carcass. They smiled, joked, asked about what the two new customers were looking for. All the while, we just stood there looking like morons.
I'll skip The Great next time I'm in town. read more
