Cool place. Very quiet during the day on a week day as you'd expect. Staff was super friendly and enthusiastic about their community and programming. They apparently host a lot of events. Day pass was $28, but there are sometimes deals on Mondays or Friday evenings. Equipment is included in the pass, so no separate rentals which is nice. We like bouldering. They correctly informed us that they set their routes on the difficult side. I could even tell during a simple warm up route that they're much more challenging than usual. You can top out, and climb up the top, onto the platform, and down a simple route with extra handles. Good experience, I'll be back! read more

This gym should be renamed "the Dirty Sock Vault" since that's exactly what it smells like, probably because all the climbing shoes are on the front desk. The stuffiness and poor ventilhation only worsen the odor. But even more annoying is how their specials fail to mention that you need to be an experienced climber to participate. I saw a ladies' night special on their home page and thought that meant I could climb at a discounted rate. But when I got there, an unfriendly man at the desk told me that unless I have 'prior experience' I couldn't participate. That's *probably* something you want to mention on the actual ad, rather than making that info hard to find on another page in your site. He tried to persuade me into paying $50 - and waiting an hour and a half - to take a private course 'so I could learn how to climb and do the special', assumedly at a later date (?). No thanks... I left and then called the manager, Paul, to explain this and our conversation went as follows. Me: "Do you agree that your website is misleading?" Paul: ..."Yes." Me: "Okay, thanks for wasting my time." Paul: "I'm at a loss as to how to help." Well, Paul, you could promise to improve your ads, but I guess that's too complex...or at least that's what Zach, the other manager, claims to be the case. According to him, 'rock climbing is a complex sport to explain on a website.' Because adding 'not available to beginners' on the actual ad is too complex to understand, I guess? Update: After being called six times, I noticed that the gym actually replied to my review but they clearly missed my point. There should be an FAQ page for the specials about who can use them, or just write ON THE AD that it's for advanced climbers. I was busy at work, glanced at the ad on your home page, and thought 'Cool, I'll stop in.' Your site wasn't put together well. read more

This is probably one of the best maintained climbing gyms I've been to. The rental shoes were in good shape and the rocks were properly attached to the walls. They have a pretty extensive bouldering wall, and the rope climbing walls have a variety of climbing routes for everyone. We paid $25 for an hour of rope climbing with a staff member who was friendly and knowledgeable. Plus not having to worry about tying knots or being responsible for my climbing partner plunging to his death made the experience that much more enjoyable. Would definitely go back. read more

We wish we could give more than 5 starts for Gravity Vault - Radnor! We cannot thank the owners and staff enough for instilling a love of rock climbing in our almost 12 year old daughter! It all started with birthday parties. We had attended a few at other local rock climbing gyms and were not at all impressed. But, birthday parties thrown at GV-R are impressive! They are great, organized, active, and very child centric. The party staff ensures that all guests are engaged and are actually climbing during the time allotted (other gyms let the children run amok without any guidance). After attending several birthday parties, my daughter wanted to learn more about rock climbing. We purchased a 5 pack staff belay package (mom & daughter climbing), which then led to classes after school, which then led to trying out for team (and making it) and Camp Rocks this summer (where she is now learning to climb actual rock faces at a nearby state park). What she has accomplished over a year's time is incredible and is due to the efforts of the GV-R staff. Their collective knowledge and passion for the sport is clearly evident! My daughter wants me to give shout outs to Zach (the co-owner) and all the instructors! She says that "everyone is super nice" and all the instructors "get her to conquer her fears such as correctly falling off the bouldering wall at a high height." Great gym in the Philadelphia area. It is very large and clean, and has a good mixed ratio of boulder to top rope/lead problems (whereas other gyms in the area are heavily boulder or top rope/lead). Problems are reset pretty frequently and you can see which on their website or just by asking staff. There are 5 auto-belays that are rotated in different locations around the gym which is great for variety. There are classes for belay and lead, programs for kids, birthday parties, etc. It is sometimes busy, but it won't be overcrowded every time you go so that is nice. There are also often deals on day passes, belay classes, or their climbing equipment and shoes. The staff is very friendly, as well as the other climbers generally. If you don't have a car, it is also easily accessible by regional rail train, or the norristown high speed line and market frankford line. read more

we came here during the heat wave and it was super clean and cool inside. google maps brought us to the parking lot but the main entrance is actually to the left of the building. there's an awning over the door for the main entrance which is a joint entrance for the racquet club as well. it wasn't very crowded for a sunday afternoon and we were able to get a lot of time on the wall. we did the private staff belay session for a party of 4 for 1 hour ($95). this includes shoe and harness rental for the whole party, and chalk for your hands as needed. if you're new to rock climbing or haven't been in a while and feeling a little rusty, this is a really great option. we were all super pooped after the hour and got to climb about 4-5 routes each. our instructor meg was very sweet and professional! we felt very safe up on the walls and had a great time! read more

Came here with two adults and three children, aged 13, 9 and 7. We did the 90 minute session and had Gus as a guide. Gus was key in enabling the kids to gain the confidence they needed to get the top of the wall. The 7 year old in particular had trouble and was fearful, Gus worked with him patiently and encouraged him until he was successfully able to reach the top. Great experience and will for sure return with or without the kids. Many walls available with varying degrees of difficulty. read more

I Love Gravity Vault! I walked in over 2 years ago having never climbed before and began my journey up many walls with Zach Jones. What a fabulous trainer and person. I am not an athlete but soon fell in love with this sport. Zach taught me technique and the importance of using my brain! My strength improved and my love for this Rock gym. I have been around the country and seen many rock gyms. None compare with Gravity Vault. Many are small, dark and dingy plus have very few if any Safety measures in place. The fact that GV. Requires a short "belay" class before you can climb alone is so great. Safety is foremost here. I've been to gyms that barely asked if I had experience! All the staff that have worked with me to develop my technique are excellent. Each having different strengths and perspectives on climbing. The fact that routes are changed on a regular basis is perfect for myself as I try to get in at least once a week. I'm never bored!! Zach Jones and Zach Barber are professional, knowledgeable, smart managers. I'm proud to call them friends after the time we have known each other. Been to Gravity Vault in Radnor close to 10 times and have always had a great experience. The staff is always very welcoming and friendly and were very clear in what the up front costs and deals were. I was taught to belle and given encouraging advice on how to climb by Zach, who is the manager of the gym. He was nothing but a great teacher and friendly guy. Gravity vault is kept very clean and the climbs are changed enough to keep it new and challenging. The rental equipment is new and can accommodate any size shoe. I have climbed at only a few gyms since I started bouldering, but I can easily say Gravity Vault Radnor has the most welcoming facility and friendliest staff of them all. There is a good variety of bouldering routes for people of all skill levels and even more routes if you're into top rope. Plus there's a *small* but convenient exercise room with equipment for you to satisfy any desire to supplement your climb with cardio or lifting, as well as a hang boarding/canvasing area to train your grip strength. I was surprised that this place is so clean and not smelly at all. On a 90 degree summer day the inside space is super cool. More importantly the routes are fun! With 5 auto belays you are definitely ok to go top-rope even without a belay partner. read more

I am familiar with the Gravity Vault in Chatham, NJ, and was happy to see that the Radnor location is just as open and fun as the one back home. I came with a group where each person had a different level of climbing experience ranging from indoor/outdoor to no experience at all. We all had a great time, rented equipment for the day, and had plenty to do! The staff here are all so welcoming and friendly, and there's a good contingency of regulars. This is a great community of climbers and half price for ladies on Fridays is a great way to get a group to come! The routes are constantly changing and the whole facility is clean and well maintained. It was great to see a variety of top rope options, multiple auto-belays, and a whole wall of bouldering routes available. There was even a slack line set up last time I went! I was in Philly for the weekend and met a friend at The Gravity Vault. We bouldered for a few hours, I was highly impressed by the features and construction of the gym. I'm getting kind of old and the flooring was well made to support falls or drops without much possibility of ankle twisters, also nice to have top out boulders. Route grades were consistent and although we did not have an opportunity to use them, there were several solo training opportunities by using auto-belays. The staff was extremely inviting and helpful, kudos! I am a climbing gym owner myself and have been to gyms across the country, this ranks with the best of them.
