I don't know where to start with Fothergills. We were fortunate to stay in one of the apartment…read morerooms above the cafe and were welcomed to a complimentary coffee and pastry for breakfast during our stay. The cafe is super cute; one side is more of a restaurant scene with tables, menu, and waitresses and waiters on hand. The other side is more of grabbing something quick to eat and/or drink. I've tried the raspberry muffin. It was so fresh and good words cannot even describe it. I'm more of a blueberry muffin person but being that was not an option at the time I chose raspberry and I did not regret it. My fiancé and I also tried the Irish breakfast (I posted a pic and noted what it consisted of). So awesome! A hearty breakfast was a great way to start a day of exploring in Dublin. The next day, I tried the croissant and scone. They pretty much melted in my mouth. As you walk in the cafe, you could smell how fresh everything was. Anyway, we had planned to drive to the Cliffs of Moher that day and decided to get a couple of sandwiches and saw they had a variety of choices to choose from. I ended up creating my own sandwich; it was super delicious! Even when we ate it hours later, it was still good. We tried the Irish cheese and onion chips and it blew my mind. It's similar to the sour cream and onion here in the states but a hundred times better. I found myself looking for more onion and cheese chips during my stay in Ireland. The cafe started open later than other cafes I'm used to but we never made it back in time. With good prices and great food we probably would have eaten breakfast, lunch, and dinner there. I would definitely visit this place again if I ever get the opportunity to return to Dublin. It made our visit a truly remarkable one.

Awah common... I'm on a diet!!! It's just not right that this sort of place exists; I have just put…read moreon 3 pounds just reviewing the photos I took! Yes, this is the enemy of the short fat and balding male rapidly reaching middle age, it is Fothergills, a shop filled with everything from a frankly obscene selection of the most appetising pastries known to man - including those squares of short bread covered with caramel and topped with chocolate.... Excuse me... I need a moment alone... Ahem... cakes... they do cakes as well and jam - I took pictures of the jam shelf, just to show you they take this sort of thing seriously... and quite right too.

Eco Logic - organic jellies!

How seriouse are these guys about organic food? Very…read more I was told that everything in the shop (with the exception of the tinned fish which was in itself suspended in Organic olive oil) was organic. "Ah ha!" said Q, as he picked up a packet of jellies, bet these aren't!... yup, they were...and at 3.50 a bag they had better be the best blinkin jellies I have ever had! - I took a picture, just in case you wouldn't believe me! Eco Logic was the first 100% organic shop in the country - a fact they are rightly proud of and have been open since 2005 - I was surprised no one else had tried to do this before now, the owner told me there was another place in Limerick about 10 years ago but that closed. The shop is thoroughly inviting, all the fresh produce is in wicker baskets and there are at the moment some of the biggest red apples I have ever seen on display - impressive!

The massive variety and quality is incomparable, and it's REAL food too - you can get carrots…read moretwisted around each other, lob-sided kiwis, bananas at every stage of ripeness. The dedication and service is amazing too - I've yet to find any other store selling organic brussel sprouts at christmas that HAND peel each one so you're only paying for the weight you use in the end! Not very many big brand names so very reasonable prices but without a drop in quality. Bulk orders are also more than doable. And the bread is to die for - sourdough based so the yeast is like 0.1% and it's amazingly thick, soft and tasty. The selection changes with the seasons so you can eat more in tune with nature without having to think much about it. And you'll never have to check the packet to see if it's organic or not - everything is! (excluding wild fish)

Our server was attentive and was able to make some good recommendations for food and drinks. Drinks, starters, and entrees arrived in timely order as expected. We ordered some bottles of wine to enjoy with our meal. Everyone enjoyed their entree and shared some tasting samples with each other. The star of the night was the Cod entree that was perfectly cooked and had the most delicious sauce. The plate was completely clean at the end.

The Swan Centre location is convenient and Fallon & Byrne appealed to me since it is open later than most, if not all, the other businesses there. The set-up is very inviting - fresh baked bread at the entrance, coffee/breakfast bar in sight, gorgeous, fresh fruit and veggies, a great selection of cheese, and prepared gourmet dishes - all of which can be taken home or eaten on site in the comfortable seating area in the back. I ventured in for a later than usual bite one evening and talked with a very friendly employee that gave me her recommendation for a wine/cheese pairing which came with brown bread, cheddar and a jam. I am not sure if it was because it was late and the bread had been out all day but it was disappointingly dry. And while I am a fan of different types of jam/cheese combinations, this jam tasted terrible and was inedible. Both the cheddar and Cabernet Sauvignon were quite tasty and saved the day. For what I had, I felt the pricing was too high. But I wouldn't be opposed to trying other dishes there the next time I am in town to give it another chance.
