The approach during my visit with Chattanooga Periodontics & Dental Implants, particularly with Dr. Felts Randall, was extremely impersonal, rushed and uncaring. I chose not to return. Also, the clinic participates with my dental insurance, however I received a bill as if I was a self-pay. The issue was corrected only after I pointed it out, mailed only the correct discounted amount, and told the clinic that I could report this to my dental insurance and the insurance commissioner. As contrast, I went to another local periodontal clinic (near Gunbarrel) where the two doctors truly listened, showed genuine concern for my comfort and needs, and made the entire experience positive and reassuring. I left feeling valued and confident in their care.

I visited Chattanooga Perio for the first time today after I received a referral from another doctor. When I originally called to setup an appointment, I gave them my insurance information over the phone during the appt setup process. Upon arriving for my appointment today, I handed my insurance card to the woman up front who noted which insurance I had and made a copy of it. I wasn't given any estimate for service, any approximate cost to expect for the visit, and was not told until the end of the visit that they don't take my insurance. Instead, at the conclusion of my visit, I was handed a bill for $180 for the visit, was then told my insurance isn't accepted and was talked down to when I expressed my surprise at the bill and asked if they offered a cash discount. It is incredibly unprofessional to be condescending toward a patient about financial matters when your office failed on two accounts to inform the patient that their insurance would not be accepted. I find it extremely rude and inconsiderate to not inform someone that their insurance isn't accepted and to not provide some kind of expectation for what the cost might be out of pocket. An unexpected $180 for a referral isn't a small expense and it's immensely frustrating to be treated as if the unexpected expense is somehow a burden on the employee. This also seems like a very high fee for the visit I experienced. Half of the charge was for 3 photos that were taken on a regular digital camera, which again I wasn't given a choice about, nor was I made aware that there would be a $90 charge for these photos. The rest of the exam consisted of 40 minutes of me waiting, 10 minutes of the doctor looking in my mouth and 10 minutes explaining the work they recommended. Had I known that none of this would be covered, I would have simply gone to another periodontist that was covered by my insurance. I don't recommend this office at all and I really don't trust them. I hate writing negative reviews, but I would hate for this to happen to someone else too. Please find another periodontist office that cares about their prospective patients and does not treat them as if their financial concerns are an annoyance.

North River Perio claims they accept dental insurance, but it's a scam. Insurance companies negotiate reduced rates. For example, a company like Cigna might only need to pay $800 for a $1400 procedure. For that reason, North River Perio prefers patients to pay out of pocket instead of using their dental insurance. To that end, as soon as your procedure is over, while you are still woozy and seeing stars, they will hustle you into a room and threaten you with a collection agency for the full amount before your insurance company has even been billed. 3. Dr. McBrayer's staff could not hold down jobs at Waffle House. They completely lack basic human empathy. I called ahead and then came into the office because I had developed a dry socket after McBrayer pulled a tooth and did a bone graft. I was suffering unimaginably. His staff wouldn't even look at it. I had to get my regular dentist to diagnose and address the problem, which cost me more money. If you have cash to burn and don't mind being treated disrespectfully by Dr. McBrayer's callous staff, then by all means, make an appointment with North River Perio. On the other hand, if you try to get the most for your money and like to be treated decently, please don't even consider North River Perio in Hixson, Tennessee.

Because of that, Dr. Ankar actually came in on his day off specifically to evaluate what was going on. During that visit, he identified issues developing around two fillings I already had and made sure I was scheduled quickly to get everything taken care of. Today's visit was just as seamless. They are incredibly respectful of your time. The wait is minimal, they run on schedule, and you're not left sitting around wondering what's going on. That level of consideration alone sets them apart. From the moment you walk in, the tone is set perfectly. Tracie at the front desk is consistently warm, welcoming, and genuinely kind.
