White Chocolate Raspberry was my favorite.

This place is the CHEERS of Coffee. It's even equipped with the original bar from back in the day. Ken greets all of his customers by name including me and I was only in town for 4 days! His glowing attitude and hospitality totally compliment the plethora of coffee flavors and teas that he has to offer. The coffee, atmosphere and hospitality kept me coming in everyday that I was staying in Flint for business.

Probably my favorite all-time coffee house/cafe. Ken, the owner, is awesome. He's super friendly and he always remembers my favorite drink orders. The teas and coffees are high-quality, you can tell. They brew their coffee with Lavazza products, which I happen to like. Prices are inexpensive, too, especially for an independent business like this one- they are definitely cheaper than Biggby, no offense to Biggby fans! I just had the best chai tea latte ever, paired with a yummy bagel, while my husband had an amazing caramel latte for himself. If you want a great place to unwind with a nice beverage and chill for awhile, this is the place. Plus, I love the old-school bar that was rescued from, I believe, the old Capitol Bar and Grille, while the building, itself, used to be home to a motorcycle shop. It gives the place a nice, vintage feel using reclaimed materials like that. Vanilla lattes, cocoa and French sodas (strawberry and vanilla) rank among the creme of the crop, in my opinion. Pastries and other goodies are also available if the munchies happen to strike. The vibe in here is definitely chill. Oh, and the walls are painted purple and the space behind the bar is decorated with funky, vintage kitchen gadgets and bar accessories. Ken has a huge collection of vintage cocktail shakers lining the shelves! Don't forget to look up their calendar of events and check out some of the happenings in the Anteroom, located in the back of the cafe. And they have free Wi-Fi as well.

Good Beans has been my favorite cafe in Genesee County for years. When I was a student, I stopped in to relax between classes. Now, I head there before work for my daily americano. The interior is charming (and the staff is too). Prices are reasonable (my americano costs less there than at other coffee places). Bonus, if you bring your own vessel they will knock $0.15 off your drink! The brand of beans they use (Lavazza), is wonderful. The staff is knowledgeable about coffee and coffee preparation; they can make just about any drink you're looking for. If you're into caffeine, I recommend the cold brew (in the summer months). It's rich and flavorful like no cold brew coffee I've had anywhere else.

So to say "The Good Bean Café" is a Flint icon, would be to undersell it! If you live in Flint, near Flint or are passing thru Flint, it's a must stop. Ask Ken, about the old flannel shirt you won't regret it. Tell-em, Paul sent ya!

My love affair with whole bean coffee continues unabated…read more I stumbled across this locally-based coffee roaster by happenstance. As luck would have it, I was hanging out at a local cafe and the owner had just gotten a new brand of whole bean coffee in- that from the Flint Coffee Company. Curious, I asked him what it was like and he seemed pretty enthusiastic about it. He said it was a new line that he was introducing for retail, likening to the rich Sumatra Starbucks blend, but with a twist. Well, I love the earthiness of Starbucks Sumatra, so my interest was piqued. What was the twist? What was that extra something that supposedly made it worth it? Apparently, it's organically-grown under special shade trees or something. These coffee beans are marketed as "direct trade, shade grown with no pesticides involved." Whatever it is, it does the trick. At any rate, I know I liked it a whole lot. Flint Coffee Company bills itself as a family owned business interested in producing sustainable coffee beans from their family-run farm (the family apparently owns a coffee plantation in Peru and owns the local company where it's roasted here in Flint). The beans are hand-harvested, washed and then dried in the sun on a drying bed. Later, the beans are depulped, with any pulp remnants used as a fertilizer for the soil while the beans ferment overnight and are rewashed. I guess it's more of a natural way to process coffee beans. All I know is that I was impressed with the smoothness of such a rich coffee flavor. There was very little to no acidity in it and no strange aftertaste that is the hallmark of cheap can coffee. In other words, if you like Folgers or Maxwell House, this probably isn't the coffee for you. However, I like my coffee rich and earthy, so it was a hit with me. It tasted just as good in its last drop as it did from the first sip from my coffee cup. They have a few different blends, from milder beans to the darker, more intense variety that I prefer. I picked up a 12 oz bag for $11. That wasn't a bad price. It wasn't the cheapest (it's true that I could have probably gotten a whole lot of average canned coffee at the grocery store for the same price or less), but for me, it's about quality, not quantity when it comes to coffee. I really can't stand that acidic aftertaste of cheap coffee, so I was down with the price.

Pretty decent to grab a coffee and snack…read more This place opened not too long ago. The building was once a doctor's office of some kind and you can kinda spy how the layout was and what has and has not changed since its transformation into a cafe. The outside still looks slightly like an old doctor's office, but the owners really went a long way in making the most of the location and renovating it into a nice little coffee shop for the local area. It's located right by the corner of a major subdivision, so the neighbors really must be pleased to have a cafe so close by to grab coffee or tea on their walks or while jogging, or simply on their way to work in the morning. The ambiance inside is cozy, but you can definitely tell it was once a doctor's office (you can see how the old office was laid out- waiting room, reception desk, offices in the back, etc), but it doesn't They sell Fireside Coffee here and and the usual smoothies, lattes, mochas, teas, pour over coffees, etc, as well as a limited line of fresh baked pastries, bagels and muffins, plus some iced beverages, like Red Bull and whatnot. I ordered an iced Salted Caramel Latte, but wound up getting a hot version of the same drink instead because the girl waiting on me misheard me. She quickly realized the mistake and offered to remake me a new iced drink, though I said it was okay and just took the already made drink because it wasn't a big deal to me. Iced, hot, whatever, I didn't really care, so it was fine. My husband ordered a traditional mocha. Both were excellent. We had no real complaints. Customer service, other than the small hiccup concerning my drink, was excellent. The barista was super nice and chill. She pointed out the retail section of the store, where they sell Chill Coffee Cafe branded gear, including t-shirts, mugs, bags of coffee, and more. The free WI-FI signal was strong and didn't interfere with the apps on my phone (some places have super sketchy WI-FI connections and it's preferable to pass on the free WI-FI). The cafe had a nice, quiet area in the back, with comfy chairs, a fireplace and a big screen TV. Further back, they had a private meeting room where they apparently host a children's event every week on the weekends. Up front, there was another seating area near the counter, with plenty of charging stations for phones, tablets and laptops. In other words, it's a perfect place to work while on the go or just chill and relax sipping a latte.

Cute coffee shop…read more We dropped in for some coffee drinks recently. They were prepared very nicely by the friendly barista. I liked the space, it was cozy and inviting and a nice place to work or study. Pricing is comparable to most other coffee shops in the area, but the menu is a little limited. I would like a bit more variety, but this is still a new business. Maybe once they have perfected things they'll offer more? Anyway, it's a decent place to get coffee and read or get some work done. I'm glad it's close and on my way to work.
