Ms. Jacqueline, Ms. Sharon, Ms. Yoon, Ms. Brielle, Ms. Sophia to name a few. - excellent leadership and administration, Ms. Grace is extremely organized, communicative and detail-oriented. This school tries hard to stay open even when Fairfax/Loudoun counties are closed for their countless holidays which is great for working parents. They provide optional extracurricular activities during the school day for pre-K such as soccer, French class and piano lessons. - the teaching! We were so impressed when our daughter started talking about what red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets do in the human body. wow! - Biblical teaching; the kids memorize Bible verses, are taught Bible stories and worship songs. Our 3 year old memorized the Lord's Prayer! - we have made such wonderful friends with the other students and families attending Monarch - all the extra touches - they put on a wonderful Christmas show every year, make special crafts for the holidays that I know we will treasure forever and host things like Mother's Day breakfast. I can't believe it's been 9 years already with our 3 kids. In 2012, when my daughters were 2 & 3 years old, we've interviewed several pre-schools in the area and this school is the best! Their Christian Montessori education is excellent and provided our kids a firm foundation of learning, growth and character. Even through the COVID-19 pandemic, Monarch maintained the highest level of precaution, safety measures, and made us feel safe during that time with our youngest. I will miss the songs, Christmas programs, Thanksgiving luncheons, the arts/crafts from my kids, parent-teacher conferences, and our kids' stories of what they experienced during school. I was always surprised by what they were able to accomplish at such a young age. My fondest memories will be our kids' birthday parties at the school with the puppet shows, oversized balloons, cupcakes, storytelling, and the walk around the globe song. Monarch is an extension of our family and we will miss them very much! My youngest kid just graduated from Kindergarten last June 5th at Monarch. The amount of care, enrichment, and level of details offered can't be beat!! I have witnessed the amount of attention paid to kids from the infant room and above. To see them have a conversation with an infant using sign language was a true highlight. One of the things I love most is that they have several ways to be a part of their growing family, even if you are not currently a daily visitor. They offer after-school and summer camps, before school care, and monthly parents-night-out (PNO) activities. The PNO's are amazing! KRK is like the coolest party in town on these nights. The kids are welcomed and loaded with tons of fun and learning activities. From movies to bounce houses, the kids LOVE it all. Dinner is included with the PNO fee and they typically offer about five (5) hours of care. If that isn't enough, Kids R Kids have the cutest little boo-boo room should your little one fall ill, etc. It's a temporary spot that's set up to care for a sick child. Private bed, initial medical equip (bandages, etc.), and trained staff. This is still a child-care facility, so if you think 'things' will not happen, you are wrong. Kids are kids. They push, they bite, they bicker, they scream, and they kick. The difference is having staff and leadership who will act promptly and appropriately when these things happen. I can attest to being able to address issues to staff and teachers directly. One must be understanding that although their ratios of students:teachers suffice, eyes can not be everywhere at every minute. If you see something, say something. KRK staff offers a REAL open door policy. Talk to them at any time...even if you are just a 'visiting' family. If you are looking for child-care, camps, before/after school care, date night supervision, or private kindergarten, KRK is what you want! If the staff members in charge of admissions and tours are displaying such disregard for prospective families, it makes us question how they will treat the children and foster an environment of respect and care. We strongly believe that all children deserve to be in an environment where they are accepted, valued, and treated equally--regardless of their background or appearance. Ms. Jeannie has been incredible in every way from day 1 to get us situated, organize all sorts of cool activities, and make us feel welcomed into the community. Ms. Monica is our new head of school, and the short while that we know her, she's put in a lot of effort to meet all the kids and parents, engaging kids in different activities. The guides - Ms. Christine and Ms. Freshta, our lead & assistant guides, are the heroes who don't wear capes. Aside from all the wonderful things my daughter shares about her amazing guides, I could also see how the kids are always engaged, the classroom is always squeaky clean, and the overall atmosphere is always peaceful and calming. And that's a classroom of about 20 young children! I used to work in classrooms as a therapist and I know this is NOT something easily accomplished without extraordinary classroom management skills, consistent routines, and being awesome/reliable adults for the kids. Other guides, such as Ms. Theresa and Ms. Dawn are also very beloved by us. We've taken classes starting at the Tiny Tots programs all the way up to the Pre-K level classes. The teachers are all kind and caring and my children have made wonderful friends. They have learned so much during their time here both academically and socially. The curriculum is play-based, but it is still structured enough to be a very beneficial option to assist with transitioning into a traditional Kindergarten environment. The classes take place inside a really neat historic school house and often includes outdoor adventures to the adjacent playgrounds and Frying Pan Farm Park to visit with the animals. I wish my own preschool experience had been this fun!
