As an unsuspecting tourist to Cornwall on a freezing cold afternoon, I wandered into this place for something to eat. Turned out to be a mistake! The place had a 1970s feel to it, partly due to the dated nature of the interior and also the music playing, which was a collection of old songs on continuous play (like an old 8-track). Next 1970s throwback was that they did not accept payment by cards, although this may have been a temporary thing. As with the review above, the chap serving was pleasant enough, but the food was terrible. Fairly small menu was made even smaller by the fact that they had run out of a lot of things, so all ended up with vegetarian options, although none of us were vegetarian. When the food came, it was very obvious that they were serving up frozen food, and probably did not have a single fresh thing on the menu: again very 1970s. I had cannelloni, which was basically pasta with bits of spinach floating in a stodgy bechamel sauce. It resembled a cheap microwave meal, and not even a good microwave version of this dish. One of our party opted for dessert, which was barely edible chocolate fudge cake: the only other dessert on the menu being that 1970s classic Knickerbocker Glory! Quality of the service was largely on a par with the food, and the bill included a compulsory 10% service charge, which is a sure sign of a restaurant that finds their customers don't tip for some reason. I struggle to see how places like this stay in business. read more
