We visited this place on two successive Fridays and both times the service and especially the food were first rate.
Excepting the plaice dish which two of us had on the first Friday, the food was cooked to perfection (the plaice was a little overcooked, but only a little). The Mussels I had on the second visit were exceptional, fresh plump and juicy, they were served in a marinere sauce but with very well balanced added flavours (cumin I believe was one). The Thai Monkfish was beautiful with a generous amount of perfectly cooked fish. Its hard to have a south eastern Asia sauce bursting with flavour which does not overwhelm the fish, but they accomplished this trick brilliantly
Between the two visits, fellow diners had the rib-eye Steak (cooked exactly as they wanted) with log sized chips as an accompaniment. Also we had a vegetarian polenta dish which got a major thumbs up from our very demanding (!) daughter. Bravo Hunkeydory. Also we had pork belly dish. Given other examples we had in Falmouth, this was more like what it should be. A large piece of perfectly rendered pork, slow cooked and placed on a bed of potato gratin. Perfect.
A note on the service: It can be hard to get a good balance between efficiency , friendlyness and not smothering diners. The staff got it just right. Checking with us if everything was fine (and meaning it) offering suggestions and options and even going off menu to satisfy a craving for sticky toffee pudding. A great performance well done
With a bottle of wine, drinks, water, coffees, cheeses and desserts (the stick toffee pudding got a major thumbs up from our younger members) the bill came to circa £140 for 4. I would say that that represents tremendous value for money and I can't recommend Hunky Dory highly enough. read more
