The pub itself is centrally located within Falmouth and offers the traditional 'Irish' tipples including Guinness. That really is as traditional Irish as it gets. The pub really tries to appeal more to the students of the local campus, often with loud dance music to entertain the skint masses on a Saturday night. The staff are friendly and the prices are reasonable, although there are numerous other establishments in the town that will give you a far more entertaining evening.

It's a nice pub, with a friendly atmosphere and a comfy, discreet outer seating area to the front (a bit removed from the street) - only, it's not much of an IRISH pub. You can get Guinness - Duh! - but that's about it. When I asked for Kilkenny at the bar - it drew a blank. All the other beers here are English! That's very peculiar for a place that calls itself an "Irish Pub" - and in very big letters on the front! So, while the pub itself is plesant, quite stylish and very comfy with its darkened interior, lovers of Irish beer will be gravely disappointed. Some Irish spirits however are available. Staff were nice and polite.

Not that that is a bad thing Enjoyed a pint of tribute, which I think came from a barrel in the back because the only beers on display were sharps beers...that weren't on yet. I was a tad confused. It is basically set up like an old tavern, complete with candles and medieval(ish) decorations. But the portions are huge and lots of the options are child friendly - The desert menu seemed bigger than the savoury options!! - Most of my friends tried the 'chicken in the rough' and seemed happy. - I loved each and every mead that I tried! Less good: - The food was not very good BUT it wasn't terrible. My main was smoked mackerel...which was just cold smoked mackerel (straight out the packet) with a salad drenched in uninspiring coleslaw. Meh. - Who steals the cups?! There was a sign saying please don't steal the mead glasses as they don't make them any more. Don't be a dodgy cup-thief!!

I really really despise being ripped off. We got two codfish & chips with mushy peas a pint of Leffe beer (6.2abv) and a glass of Rose wine for £23. Cod 3 stars factory made chips 1 star, mushy peas from a tin 2 stars. Value overall 4 stars. I can eat and drink far better for half the price of the harbour area here at the Trevi Fountain in Rome and the centre of Lisbon yet merchants in this town and other places we've been in Cornwall complain that Brits go to Europe for holidays. This pub is part of the Wetherspoons chain established by a Northern Irish bloke who favoured Brexit and who would likely fit into ulster unionist traditions. Locals call it Spoons. I'm no longer clear if I am an out and out hypocrite or that I'm a miserable beggar or that my not wanting to be ripped off dwarfs all else. I pay road tax and huge fuel taxes, I pay taxes when I insure my cars to go on the road so I really hate to have to pay a fourth time to park on a road. I've never been to St Ives before. It's picturesque and quaint. It has a long history and was heavily into sea fishing for its wealth but e left it thinking more about not bothering next time and go back to Spain and Portugal.

My first choice of beer, Cornish Chough from Lizard Storm had a taste I'm not too fond of. I used to think it was a bit of a cleaning fluid like taste, but due to friends comments I've come to realise that it isn't and that it is just a personal preference. In which case it is only fair to order a second beer! That beer was Tintagel Gwaf Tan 5.8%. Now this is a beer. Talk about delicious caramel flavours...seriously..talk about them! I could happily have had more of this, if only I had time. The fire alarm went off 3 or 4 times while I was here. As they're quite new I'm going to let them off that annoyance. They did apologise and allow me a ketchup allocation for my uncle as recompense!
