My husband called on Tuesday to make tea reservations for either Saturday or Sunday and was told there was availability for both days. The person who answered stated they couldn't book the reservation themselves but assured him someone would call back shortly to confirm. Unfortunately, no one ever called back. After that, no one answered the phone for the rest of Tuesday, Wednesday, or most of Thursday. When he finally reached someone right before closing on Thursday, he was told they were completely booked. This experience was extremely frustrating and disappointing due to the lack of communication and follow-up. We understand places get busy, but not returning calls and then suddenly being fully booked after initially confirming availability is poor customer service. Their reservation system also clearly needs improvement. An online reservation model would make much more sense because the current phone-based process is not working effectively. Although I've enjoyed tea here on a couple of different occasions, the experience is not astonishing enough to return after this reservation experience. read more

My best friend and I have been eyeing this place for a while on social media. The decor was everything we saw online. It was very cutesy, very demure. We finally got reservations for an Afternoon High tea experience. I love supporting local small businesses, especially small black owned businesses. I have some amazing things to say about this business and some MAJOR critiques. I want this business a chance to do better. The main theme of disappointed I see in the reviews was the lack of service, and we definitely experienced that first had. I totally understand the servers being young teenage girls, but wow we really had to exercise patients with them. The servers did not want to be there nor Work at all. They looked at us like they couldn't wait to go home. My group had 7 women and 2 kids so we got 4 tea pots in total, 2 Tea towers, all our own hot plate. We never got the complimentary ginger juice sample. I completely understand the concept of reservation, and keeping our time slot in mind. That being said I really did not like that our servers kind of made us wait a lot, I felt like we really wasted about 30 minutes just getting our teas. I did not appreciate the server giving my aunt attitude when the wrong Tea was booked. This is why I said triple check your reservation, because just trying to change to High tea was irritating of arguing back and forth. Mam, We understand that the High Tea cost more, we will pay the $10 difference. It was as if the servers were scared we weren't going to pay for it, or they did not want to prepare the hot plates being it was more work for them. I liked that they had an extensive Tea selection. Unfortunately they were pretty much out of more than half of the teas we wanted to try. Each person in our group had one tea that we absolutely loved, and then hated the rest. The yellow text on the menu is caffeinated tea and the blue text on the menu is non-caffeinated tea. I did not like that we had to BEG for milk and sugar. When it finally came, she brought the TINIEST vessel of milk to share between 9 people, it was a serving for one person at best. I felt like a broken record at the end of the experience having to constantly ask for things. We weren't trying to be difficult, but the service was absolutely trash. They never brought us our last tea pot because there was only 20 minutes left in our reservation. Mam we asked for the pot 30 minutes prior, making it a total of 50 minutes. We had plenty of time for our last pot. You guys literally did not want to work that day. The tea tower was very cute, and I liked how there were plenty of foods on there. I just wished the server didn't half ass explain what was on there, we didn't know what item was what . Imagine my surprise eating the Coronation Chicken finger sandwich had grapes in it. It honestly was very good, a curry chicken flavor. There were 5 different finger sandwiches. Chicken Coronation(should be curry chicken), cucumber, Egg Salad, Salmon lox, and Pimento cheese. The Scones were amazing & soft. As for the desserts, we didn't know what was what either, and it seemed like our two tea towers had slightly different desserts. The hot plate was mid at best. It did come literally Hot, but it did not come all at once. My Quiche went cold by the time everyone else got their food. The server forgot to take my order and told me I ordered the Quiche. I guess that was fine too....? They ran out of Gouda for the Turkey croissant anyways. I asked the server for salad dressing for my sliver of lettuce. The server said "oh its on there & left". When the other finally plates came, my salad was the only one dry as hell. They forgot to put dressing on mine and gaslight me. They only had 3 Hot plate options this day, because they ran out of everything else. We came on a Saturday, it is prime service time. How do you not prepare for this?? Especially when we were the first group of people there! The room we got was cute, but very very Tight. There was a huge dresser in the room that took up a bit of space. The King Charles cut out almost gave us a heart attack. It was hiding & creeping in the background. While we had the room to ourselves, the servers didnt close our room. We were right across from the toilet, We could still see the other guests. The tea cups and plates were all so cute! I just wished they gave us an extra fork for the Hot plate, bc using the same fork for cake on Quiche is wild. We all wanted to try the different teas, but we had to chug each cup before we can try a different flavor. If not change the cups for each pot, I was tasting the basil flavor from Earl grey in the hibiscus tea. If we had better service I think our experience would have been a 10 out of 10. My friends and I had a wonderful time at The Ginger Room. We had made reservations a couple months in advance for high tea. The service was good and we could pick 3 teas from the menu and switch them out as many times as we wanted to try other teas. We tried 5 different teas and all of them were really good! The food tower was great as well. I'm vegetarian and there was plenty for me to eat on it. We also had hot food with a side salad that came with our reservation. I had the quiche which was great! Tea for two, please! What a cute little building and concept. Took my mom here for her birthday and we had the best time! My mom has always loved tea (never a coffee drinker) so naturally, I grew up drinking and loving tea time with her. When I stumbled upon this place online, I knew it was the perfect spot to celebrate my mom. You MUST book reservations in advance (at least 48 hours is required) for Afternoon or High Tea, and space is very limited. I called and made the reservation via phone and had to pay a deposit to hold the reservation which went towards the total bill. There's a large parking lot in the back. Afternoon Tea was about $50 per person and came with their "Traditional Tea Tower". This included a selection of finger sandwiches (Smoked Salmon & Chive, Coronation Chicken, Classic Cucumber & Dill, Egg & Watercress, Pimento Cheese), Fresh Scones and Clotted Cream (made in-house), Jams, Lemon Curd, and a various dessert assortment. They will also serve a sample of fresh ginger juice upon request. Both of us got to choose a 24oz pot of tea from their incredible list of over 45 national and international teas. The tea pots, tower, and china were absolutely beautiful and I really felt like we were in a little old English tea house. They were even sweet enough to bring out a crown and a special little pie with a birthday candle for my mom! The only complaint I have is that we felt quite rushed the entire time. I understand that they have to keep to their reservations, but it almost feels like maybe they need to book less reservations in a day to accommodate for more enjoyment time. I got the chance to check out the ginger room and it is such a wonderful experience. The building that ginger is in is actually the oldest house in Alpharetta built in the 1800s. I am not a tea drinker but wanted to experience the whole British high tea. The owners are absolutely amazing. They walk you through the teas and the treats. Telling you how to properly stir your tea and even what it means to have your pinky up. I can see this is a great date experience, girls brunch or lunch or even a great place to take your little mini me to have tea. If you are interested in checking them out I would say you need to book now. They are already booked up for a month. It can be quite difficult to get a reservation. We did high tea and it ended up about $150 for 2 for the top tier package which comes with a savory entree + tower + pot of tea This place gets super crowded so you have to make a reservation most days I think. They have tea, sipping chocolate, coffee, cafe style entrees, pastries and more. It was kinda hard to tell what's for sale vs what's decoration and prices are not on all items that you can buy. I think generally the tea products are for sale and books, etc not? Im not sure because there were cookie boxes on the display that may or may not be for sale too. The shepherds pie was really good and so was the mango black tea and the chai. The tower came with a ton of food and we ended up with a couple boxes leftover to go home with The staff is friendly and the house has a very positive cute vibe I was so stuffed after all this but I def want to try their sipping chocolate sometime. This was the most expensive out of all of them. It was $71 with tax for the high tea. Still, I don't regret going and would consider going again. The service was overall good but the waiters need a little improvement here. The waiters seemed very confused. First they brought a Shepherd's pie to our table (we both ordered) and then they tried to take it away and give it to someone else. Then the waitress told them no, that was ours. Then the waiter tried to give us a tomato pie instead, which we didn't order. We eventually got the correct order. That was the only downside to our otherwise lovely experience. The afternoon tea itself was okay, nothing was stellar about the food and the desserts were dry. In general, the reason this review has such a low rating is because of the service. It took forever for them to even get to us for us to order our tea, and we were only able to really try one pot because of how long it took. Not only that, we asked for creamer and sugar twice before they gave it to us at the end, after the tea pots were finished because they couldn't remember fast enough. Overall, awful experience especially for the price point and for the gratuity they take out. I'm okay with mandatory gratuity but you'd at least expect the bare minimum service. I Love The Ginger Room! My girlfriend and I came on a Saturday with no reservations and they were able to accommodate us at a nice corner table. The cafe is filled with ornate paintings, antiques, and fine china. The Ginger Room has a plethora of gorgeous decorations in a historic home in Downtown Alpharetta, it's full of history. We opted for the $45/pp afternoon tea and we each had our own pot of chosen tea and a dessert and sandwich tower to share. There was more than enough food and we had to-go boxes offered, which was really nice. All of the servers worked together and did a great job taking care of us. I had a pot of the apple pie tea and my friend had the ginger tea. We both really enjoyed it! The afternoon tea tower included tea sandwiches like cucumber, smoked salmon, curry chicken, pimento and egg sandwich. I especially loved the cucumber and cream cheese---great combination. Fantastic!! Loved it so very much. Now here's my review. I came here with a group of ladies and we had a fantastic time getting dolled up and enjoying high tea. I enjoyed the teas I tried very much. They book up quickly and I made the reservation 2 months ago. The owner, Angela, was so sweet. She walked us through the tea menu and the tower. They use an array of local products like the macaroons and many of the sweets are made in house. The salmon sandwich was everything! The curry chicken salad was very good as well. I wasn't a fan of the cucumber sandwich as it was a tad sour for some odd reason. They give you to go boxes and aren't skimpy on the food. I really enjoyed the scones and the ginger jam. At the end we got the opportunity to sample the strawberry ginger drink and it was wonderful! Angela ran out because so many of the ladies purchased it. We enjoyed a Friday afternoon tea with friends . Charming cluttered tea room felt like we were at an elderly aunt's home. Staff were very accommodating for special request and offered hummus sandwich replacements since I did not want chicken salad. For the 6 of us, the tower offered 3-4 sandwiches per person for each type. Smoked salmon, cucumber, curry chicken salad, egg salad AND pimento cheese. Then a scone for each person then a mixture of mini desserts and chocolates. Personally, I would have preferred fewer dessert options and then 1 per person. We were offered 4 tea options so almost everyone had a chance to choose their own preference from 3 pages of options. Unfortunately, several options were unavailable. Staff were extremely friendly and attentive, offering to take photos and water glasses were never empty. Refills on the tea as well. Nice to finally get a tea room in Alpharetta ... or even North Atlanta ever since the one in Roswell closed down years ago. The Ginger Room is established in a historic building in downtown Alpharetta. From the outside, it looks modern but inside is decorated with an eclectic warmth and charm. The owner was attentive, kind, and knowledgeable with her suggestions. Their selection of tea is the high point, with over 40 different varieties, but they also offer coffee and juices as well. Aside from what you would expect with pastries and such, you can order a warm meal as well -- mostly consisting of quiches and croissant sandwiches. If you're going to get a dessert, I would recommend the Bakewell Tart, which is really good, lightly sweet, and made in-house. The quiche and croissant were good but not extraordinary. The tea and dessert stand out though. The next trip would be for high tea service as much of what is in the service, you cannot get a la carte. The Ginger Room recently opened, so they're still stretching their legs. I talked to the owner a little bit about the awkward reservation system which I could not get to find any open appointments. Turns out I had to advance 5 weeks ahead and only on the weekends to find a spot. Yes, their high tea service is popular! Additionally, I mentioned that I tried to contact someone via phone, Facebook, Instagram, and email but received no response on any of it. I saw a post about afternoon tea at The Ginger Room on one of my favorite Atlanta foodie Instagram pages, and immediately sent it to my friend saying that we have to make a reservation for this! We made a reservation straight away - the first available weekend time was a month away so we booked it. We were so excited to visit and have this experience, and I would highly recommend for a fun / special occasion treat! All of the sandwiches, scones, and treats were very tasty, and the amount served per person was perfect. We were both full, but not sickly stuffed. My favorites were the egg salad sandwich, cucumber sandwich, and the scone with lemon curd! I'll be dreaming of that lemon curd :) I am admittedly not even close to being a tea expert, but they had a large menu with a wide varieties of teas. I am sadly very disappointed in The Ginger Room because of the rude, distasteful, and inappropriate service upon arrival. My sister had planned a girls' afternoon to go to The Ginger Room for the first time as a Christmas gift to my mom because we all grew up going to high tea together around Atlanta. After just stepping through the front door, the owner asked for my sister, not to greet us, but to loudly scold my sister for not answering their three phone calls all morning. My sister had ZERO missed or existing calls from the establishment and had never even provided her phone number with booking the reservation. After being seated, the owner again rudely mentioned she's glad she set the table even though she didn't know if we were going to show. This was such an abrasive, unprofessional, and underserving "welcome" that put a damper on the entire experience. I cannot imagine any setting where that would be appropriate, even if there was a miscommunication. I had such high hopes, but sadly cannot and will not recommend The Ginger Room. read more

Had the gluten free afternoon tea here with me (celiac), my sister (gluten intolerant), my mom, and niece (neither have an issue with gluten) and we got the afternoon tea platter for 4, all gluten free. It was okay and neither me or my sister got sick. This is long, but details I would have liked to know before booking and spending that much money. I know I have a lot of complaints, maybe I'm too picky because I had an amazing gluten free afternoon tea in England for the same price, but overall, I wasn't impressed, it wasn't worth the price, and I won't be back. I don't think I've ever left a negative review anywhere before - it is very rare I leave a review at all. We booked ahead and included the high tea upgrade (having a hot dish in addition to afternoon tea) and mentioned in the comments we wanted the tomato pie gluten free. When we got there, the only hot dish they had available gluten free was shepherds pie, but when the manager came to let us know that, she said we could downgrade to the afternoon tea instead, so we did that. The high tea platter included plenty of food and we didn't finish it all. It included sandwiches (cucumber and dill, pimento cheese, egg salad and smoked salmon), instead of scones it had tomatoes stuffed with coronation chicken with crackers on the side, then the desserts were a few macarons, coconut macaroons, some other kind of coconut things with raisins in it, toffee, mini rum donuts, and most of that tier was covered with "chocolate" covered strawberries. The bread on the sandwiches was pretty good, but the egg salad and cucumber sandwiches were flavorless, the salmon was okay, and the pimento cheese was really good. The coronation chicken was good, but was a bit odd they served it with both the tomato and crackers and the tomato watered down the flavor, so I ate the chicken on the crackers then the tomato separately. But I would have MUCH rather had the coronation chicken on a sandwich and actually had scones with clotted cream and jam in the middle layer, which is traditional. I saw the non-gluten free customers had that, and scones are one the easiest things to make gluten free, so that was just a really weird choice and I missed the scones. The desserts were not good - I felt like they were like cheap desserts you get at the grocery store bakery. The "chocolate" covered strawberries only had a bit of candy melt drizzled over the top, which just made it really sweet. I didn't try the coconut things because I don't like coconut but others in my party didn't like them and they were really dry. The toffee, macaron, and rum donuts were okay. But these are not desserts you expect at a high tea other than macarons - they are usually more delicate patisserie. They were weird choices for desserts, and weird flavor choices - you'd think they'd go with flavors more universally liked. It was also a strange choice that they didn't have enough for each person to try each kind - they had 2 of most things then a lot of that tier was filled with strawberries. Note they also only gave us 3 stuffed tomatoes. They had a TON of tea options, and we could choose 3 for our table of 4, but no decaf black tea. I can't have caffeine and am not a big fan of the flavors they had for herbal tea (they were mostly fruity with cinnamon and weird stuff like that - just give me some normal tea like a ginger or something if I have to go herbal!), so I got some fruity kind and choked it down. Also note, the tables are TINY, and we had two small round tables pushed up next to each other so it was VERY hard to coordinate a big tower, our plates, tea cups, waters, 3 tea pots, the decorations they had on the table, etc. - photo is before we got the tea pots - after that there was ZERO room, which made the experience pretty uncomfortable - we all felt like we were going to break something the whole time. The place itself was also super tiny and I was sitting next to a wall with a coat rack hanging on it and about an inch from poking me in the eye the whole time. The service wasn't great either - the owner or manager was friendly, but everyone else working there acted like they hated their job and rarely, or maybe never, came to check on the table - my sister ran out of water probably half way through our 1.5 hours there and they didn't come to check on us after that for sure. But gratuity is mandatory and added onto the bill. So overall, over $200 for some cheap food that tastes like it's from the bakery at a grocery store and a bad experience overall - definitely not worth it!
