I've been wanting to try here since it opened and why not on a long weekend. I can really appreciate a place that stays open on Good Friday. This is a hole in wall cafe located just a little past the James Street shopping shopping precinct. In saying that it's a hole in wall cafe this does mean that seating is somewhat limited. Your choices to sit in doors are few but there are a fair few tables out back. On a day like today that wasn't ideal given the wet weather factor but luckily we scooped a table inside.
Their menu is a simple, wholesome one. Think Avo on Toast with a green salad and sesame topper, muesli with fresh fruit, tri colour quinoa bowls and toads in a hole. I really, really wanted Toad in a Hole but unfortunately for me they were sold out on this day so I went with the Avo on toast. What I really loved about this dish was the choices. You can have it as a one slice or two slice dish which I really appreciate. I hate spending money on a huge serve I know I can never finish. Added a boiled egg and some haloumi and I was good to go. Another thing that won me over with this menu was the extras were all a very affordable $2. In fact their whole menu was very affordable. A single slice serve of Avo toast was $6.50, plus my egg and haloumi side and I've spent a cool $10. Safe to say thats the cheapest sit down breakfast I've had in a long time. The coffee here is good (Toby's Estate is brewed here) and the service average. I'm willing to let that go because it was Good Friday, there was only two of them and they were pretty busy so I've got to cut those girls some slack.
For a public holiday, to walk away full, caffeinated and for less than $20 ensures I'd definitely make a return trip to The Gettin' Place. read more
