The beers were a little pricey for the KV, service was very much average. No bells or whistles -just a good canvas to make of the venue what you and your friends want to make. Loved the beer garden!! NIGHT: we went there for dinner during the folk festival. Menu looked pricey but the portions were huge. My girlfriend and I share a chicken parmy and trust me, for any two normal sized humans, that is enough to eat if you are supplementing your meal with some beverages!! Overall. It's the only pub in town, a pod they offer beer, food and a great venue to hang. Can't complain. When you put it all into context, it deserves its name as the local water hole!! Give it a visit, particularly for a sunny day session!!

Ah that venerable institution - the Country Pub…read more The haunt of weekend bikers, tourists near and far, locals watching the wildlife, and city folk at the weekender. Chicken Parmy, mixed sausage platter, a T-bone from a brontosaurus, and surf and turf miles from the nearest surf. All with chips, of course, and gravy. And the obligatory schooner. The service - well there isn't any... but the lady who takes your order is nice enough and calls everyone love, the cook looks like he was on a bender last night, and the table clearers look about 14 from a nearby farm. Sauce (four kinds), vinegar, salt and pepper on the side table pretending to be a service area and knives and forks in the canteens beside it, next to the self-help pile of napkins. And it is all good!! I mean, what do you expect, seriously? Gastro Pub? Get over it and get into it. Head out the back for beautiful views of the countryside and rub shoulders with a 50-something Harley owner in his 3 grand leathers sporting a grey goatee and a bandana. He's probably a stockbroker. Enjoy!!

Modern Aussie Cuisine with great coffee by day, and apparently a good thai restaurant by night…read more We visited the 'polished' and very 'modern' feeling and looking place twice in two days whilst in the KV. First time for tea and coffee and the second, the next day for lunch. Both occasions left us feeling happy and satisfied with our food and service. So - the tea and coffee. Important to note that we hate paying 3.50 for a bag of tea in a mug with hot water, so it was really nice to have a personal POT of with good quality loose leaf tea in it. The little things count for us, so when the tea came out with come water too (in case you want to cool down the HOT water), we found that to be a nice touch. You will see from the uploaded pics, that this place boasts to have the 'the best coffee'... Now for a Sydney sider that drinks great coffee every day, I would say I was surprised to have such a great coffee in the KV. I had another the next day too. The food was also good. Standard menu with good all round food, but certainly not gourmet by any means. Good place overall, at the right price with a clean fit out and friendly staff!! Looking forward to trying the thai!

Then again I am never a big fan of Aussie meat pies. We got there in the afternoon around 1pm and they were out of most pies. There were only a few left. We had the last steak and Guinness pie as well as the regular meat pie. The crust was flaky and the meat was full of flavor. As usual I felt the pies were very salty. The ketchup (yes, we paid for a pack) did help to cut through the saltiness a bit but still you would need water after that. There were tables both inside and outside. We sat outside, enjoying the quiet stillness of the place. There was hardly any traffic in the 30 minutes we were there. So it was nice to see the green hills with horses near the road and feel like you were back in time. The place has a charm about it. I think this is a place where you just have to try the pie even if you are not a fan. After all it does loudly proclaim to serve the world's best pies.

I was impressed by the atmosphere and the friendly nature of the staff. The lady at the counter was gruff but chatty once you got her going. The pies are not the best for takeaway. The filling is a fine mince and there is plenty of it, so while you are trying to gobble it down it is trying to drip onto your lap. The top pastry was not stiff enough to help. Eating in may have been easier. There was also something subtle missing from the flavour, slightly bland but not overly so. It is a good pie but unfortunately not the best pie I have ever had.
