They made our first wedding sets 32 1/2 years ago and we still use them for our jewelry needs, new designs, repairs and purchasing stones.

David is excellent but customer service could not be worse. Was told repair would cost 2-3K and repair would take at least one month. 7 weeks later still told price would be $2-3k. By the end of two months cost was over $4k and the ring didn't fit. 5 weeks later the ring still doesn't fit despite repeated assurances it would be fixed within one week. Great work if you can get anything done. read more

I am forewarning unsuspecting customer's of my terrible experience with The Gem Shop on Upper State Street. I gave them my gold, some diamonds and requested a ring be made. I received a drawing and quote verbally. I requested something in writing and did get a signed form for charges. That was on/or about January 20th. I had not heard anything for two months. I went to the Gem Shop (3/20/26) and asked how the ring was going? The work order, gold and diamonds were hidden away. Thankfully, the bag containing my items were found. I'm still in wonderment that this is their business model. It was so unprofessional. I retrieved my items and left the Gem Shop. just be aware and request that they sign their estimate and possible date of completion. Several years back, they repaired my mother's ring twice; after I broke it twice. They also repaired my dad's white gold watch band. In each instance, the work was impeccable. I really can't say enough good things about this place! I recently came here for a chain I needed replaced on a necklace, and I had the best experience. The customer service here is fantastic. Being a total newbie at what I needed to find, the staff members were incredibly patient, friendly, and easy to talk to. Despite their full plates with the holiday season, they still accommodated me and what I needed within my time frame, and were great with communication. The selection they have here gave me plenty of options to choose from, while they offered me their honest opinions. I was expecting one or two options, and they gave me so many to pick from, and great knowledge to boot! Prices were very reasonable. They listened to what I needed, and they worked within my budget too, with no pressure. Give yourself a few extra minutes for parking as this is a popular shopping plaza and right next to the post office, but I absolutely plan on coming back here for any of my jewelry needs. :) read more

I needed the mounting changed on my engagement ring. I visited 6 other jewelers in town who basically tried to sell me a different expensive setting. Told me they couldn't replace my ring mounting. Maybe they didn't know how to do it or were trying to make more money off me. Anyhow, I was lucky enough to stumble upon David. He changed my mount no problem. He is clearly great at what he does. He is really busy and getting it done can take a few weeks or more but it is totally worth the wait. Reasonable pricing as well. I don't know what I would do without David, I guess I would have had to spend an additional 1-2k on a new setting if it wasn't for him because nobody in town was willing to help me out. I will definitely be recommending him to everyone and anyone who needs some work done on their jewelry. As far as the selection in the store, it's fairly limited. I think he does more jewelry repair and design rather than selling it. read more

This was a very disapointing experience. We first brought in a loose stone to be set and were told it would be about a week, it took a month. No apologies and no discount. They very very loosly interpreted what we wanted and did their own thing. We brought it in again to have it sized down and fixed, they said about three days, Its been TWO weeks! When we called today to express our frustration the jeweler took the phone from the receptionist and hung up on me. I called back and said that wasn't cool and got hung up on again. Not ok. They said on the phone it was in pieces and had already been started. My fiance went in and got it asked for it back and it hadn't even been touched. I can't believe they had it for two weeks and hadn't even started. Such a huge disapointment. Never going back. read more
