The Gellie, so named as it is the Ulster-Scot word for a ships kitchen. A galley = gellie. There is a translation board placed on the wall behind the counter with all the Ulster-Scots words for the food that can be bought. And that's where the novelty ends. Beyond that, it is a standard, run of the mill chip shop. Not one of these all singing, all dancing affairs with fancy names for their burgers. If you want a chicken burger, you ask for a chicken burger.
The location? Well, it sits at the entrance to Bloomfield Estate (which is opposite Bloomfield's shopping centre) and can be easily accessed by passers by. It is, however, prone to swarms of feral children hanging around outside. OK, swarms might be an exaggeration, but only slightly.
The food itself, is standard chip shop fayre. A consistent standard and decent sized portions for reasonable prices. If anyone is passing, I do recommend it but generally used by locals. read more
