My favorite part of the decorations was the wall of money which was incredibly cool. I saw 2 Ukrainian hryvnias, and to me as a Ukrainian, that hit VERY close to home. Decor however, was not the only thing incredible thing there. The staff were so nice and understanding, they were attentive and made us feel at peace. But food. OH THE FOOD. we ordered a lot, expecting the portions to be small, but oh man were we wrong. The portions were huge and filled with flavors so satisfying, I didn't want to stop eating. Thank you all the staff, for it was one of those places where I felt the need to return to as fast as I can. HAVE A GREAT EVENING :D

This place was recommended to us not by a tourist but by a friendly relative of the Amish owner, Brenda Slabaugh (everyone in this settlement is close-knit). Like other in-home dining venues, the spacious room also serves as a social gathering and worship place for the Amish. Nearly everything in the huge kitchen is prepared from scratch and served family-style. The fixed menu includes bread, salad, chicken, roast beef, noodles, mashed potatoes, cooked vegetables, and assorted pies. Everything we tasted was phenomenal. Homemade peanut butter and jam, spread on fresh-baked bread, were ethereal. The 'colorific' salad was colorful indeed and tossed in a savory vinaigrette. White meat chicken fingers and dark meat were breaded and baked (not fried) to perfection. The beef (pot roast, perhaps) was fork-tender and juicy. All of the side dishes and pies were just as wonderful. Brenda and family members who helped her prepare and serve the meal were friendly and attentive to our needs, and happy to answer questions about Amish lifestyle and customs. Of course, a 'modern' restroom is available. This business is aimed at large parties and tour groups, but it's available to smaller parties on Wednesday evenings. Advance reservations are required

There's salad, bread, soup, entrees and sides too - all cooked Amish style. I loved the beef noodles, meatloaf, and broccoli salad. I sampled some other dishes, but had to save room for pie. There were some really delicious puddings too - blueberry with fresh blueberries in it and a warm bread pudding. Delicious! Service was quick and friendly and I think it's a good value for $22. It's best to arrive early and plan for a long walk afterwards (to work off the pie).

I took a look, but was more impressed with the freshness, value and experience on the main floor with menu order options. The restaurant style reminded me of a re-imagined Amish version of Cracker Barrel with handmade oddities for sale. It was surprisingly busy with it being 4:30pm, and slightly annoying to learn the kids could not have the buffet if we were ordering from the menu because there are separate seating arrangements. We chose the restaurant side. Our waitress was bubbly and energetic... extremely thorough while maintaining a friendly neighborly vibe. She commanded the restaurant like it was her vocation and truly seemed pleased to serve her hungry patrons. Once she took our order and brought out our drinks we were delighted with a small homemade loaf of seed bread with real butter, apple butter, or Amish peanut butter (peanuts, honey, and marshmallow fluff mixed together) to top it with. As we enjoyed snacking, the two kids meals, and two adult dinners with soft drinks (they do not serve alcohol) came in around $75 total. The kids meal came with homemade fried (2) drumsticks, fries, drink and a cookie reserved for the end of the meal. Everything is homemade and my picky eater's gobbled it all up! Hubby ordered the fried chicken dinner and was happy enough, but both of us noted that our breast was slightly over cooked by a minute or so (slim margins, but made for a slightly dry and tough tasting breast). He loved his corn accompaniment, noting that it tasted like it was freshly cut from the cob. I opted for the Amish sampler plate and enjoyed the meatloaf, the breading of the fried chicken, the texture of the roast beef (though the seasoning could've improved), and the chicken stuffing with fresh carrots with a slight crunchy texture mixed in. The green bean side was good enough with the bacon, but lacking a crispy texture. The mashed potatoes and beef gravy were just okay. This gargantuan portion also came with a small side salad of leafy greens, a cucumber slice and grape tomato with dressing of your choice. Everything was good... so much food! I felt like I should've toiled on the farm all day to earn such a filling meal. For dessert we bought a homemade strawberry rhubarb pie to take home. Perfectly cooked (no soggy bottom) and wonderful texture and married flavors. The pie was worth it for $18 and if you stop by the visitor center you can get a $1 coupon. Just make sure to bring it in so they can staple it to the receipt for accounting. If we ever come back I may need to try the lemon meringue pie. The peaks were gorgeous and so tall! Pros: good home cooking. Homemade pies. Value prices for what you get. Cons: potential long waits, separate buffet from restaurant and some food lacking seasoning.

They sell milled flour and primary ingredients for making your own stuff. I found it interesting how many different types of flour, spices, and primary ingredients like borax used for cleaning laundry and disinfecting were available for purchase by the pound. They also have a huge discount section and the kids loved stretching their $5 budget and got a bunch of Halloween and Christmas specific candy cheaply for no other reason than it being the wrong holiday. My husband bought some Amish sourdough bread, but was disappointed with the taste. Upon looking at the label I noted there were a lot of ingredients. Just something to note. This is the last Hot n Now left in existence, BUT I've heard thru the grapevine that they're actually making a comeback and opening more locations! My mom lives here back in Sturgis again... When we would come visit my aunts and uncles, we would stop here, some 30+ years ago, and it's just as I remember it. Being from Reno Nevada, when I come visit my mom, I try NOT to eat here, because I try to stay away from carbs, but I had to give in after an internal 3 day battle. I always forget what I ordered from the last visit, because it's usually years apart. This time (and probably last) I ordered the "Big Hot" with fries. It was perfect and sloppy, just how I like it. The fries were good, and I ordered fried pickles. They were a little greasy but super good. The menu is also very fairly priced. For the trash I would get at 5 guys for just me, I was able to buy 2 combo meals The lady who took my order and money was super sweet. I don't remember what iit looks like inside, and come to think of it, I don't know if I've ever even been! I hope they DO open more!
