You may be looking to visit Philadelphia, New York, or D.C. for a cultural experience - for the arts, as it were. Why bother? Of course, I don't mean you shouldn't go to these places. I certainly have, and will continue to visit such cities. Carlisle is definitely not one of those places, nor should it ever try to be. It has a flavor all to itself that will satisfy the palette of anyone who enjoys their taste of history, with a seasoning of the arts. A place for those who value a walk down tree lined streets, wide avenues, or quaint and narrow alleyways; who value great, not grand mind you, but uniquely diverse architecture, and shopping in real shops, not "boutiques".
The Garden Gallery is certainly NOT a boutique, nor one of those third floor galleries, so often found in places you can barely afford to visit, let alone afford to live. It's a gallery filled with gusto, and it's owners' personalities. Charles and Susie Andrews will offer you an experience, not simply a glimpse into the world of 2 and 3-D art. I cannot say all of the artwork is unmatched compared to anywhere else, but neither is the artwork I've seen in pricey, stuffy, and austere looking galleries in some well known "arts cities".
The artists here do not put up pretenses. They are who they are, and the artwork at the Garden Gallery ranges from the truly sophisticated to the down home. Charles and Susie are also unmistakably authentic, and believe in their "mission" as both gallery owners and directors.
New to the area, I have eyes that see a little more keenly the treasure that is, at times, overlooked even by some of the local people. It would be a shame if someone had the chance to see Carlisle, and the Garden Gallery, but did not take the opportunity. read more
