There's so much going on here, I probably missed some of the fun, quirky stuff mixed in with the beautiful plants. While the building has small plants, terrarium set ups, some pots -- both ordinary and unusual and other miscellaneous things, it's the actual garden that's a treat. It started with the sign on the left warning visitors that the resident cats sit in the window and can't be let out because they terrorize things - probably the koi and ducks that make themselves at home near the small pond -- or perhaps they tangle with the peacocks. While it was later in the season and probably fewer plants than they might have in the spring, what Garden Barn did have was nice, appeared to be well cared for, and enough variety that you can stock your garden or landscape with different things. It isn't a cheap place, so be prepared to spend some money for a full landscape. With that said, there were some nice lower and mid-priced things left in one of the greenhouses. And, at a really reduced price because it's at the end of the season, some plants that looked all but dead, might still have some life in them with some TLC if you really want to manage your budget. What I noticed were the amazing large hanging baskets that reached nearly from the hanging bar at the ceiling down to the top of the tables. Absolutely beautiful. read more

Such a beautiful plant nursery with a huge selection of indoor and outdoor plants. Great selection of soil and miscellaneous stuff for plants. Customer service was excellent and super nice. I'm still in shock at the way this store treats its customers. It's been over 2 months since the incident and I still sometimes think about it. So I'm here to write a review in hopes that either a) the owners will respond apologetically / unaware of their employees behavior and make any level of amends or b) if not and they stand by their service, I will save others from the experience of going there and supporting them. In July I gave birth to my first baby. My mom found the garden barn online and saw a gorgeous big fiddle leaf fig tree in a beautiful pot adversities as being 5-6' tall for $165. She bought it and had my brother pick it up and bring it to me as my baby arrival present. When she came to town to visit 2 weeks later and asked where the tree was and I pointed to it - she was shocked!! "This is the tree???" "Where's the pot???" "This is how it came???" "$165 for this???? Surely there has been a mistake." The tree is maybe 4' tall and did not come in a pot and in the two weeks we had it it lost 2 leaves! The latter of which didn't bother me much bc I've had fiddles my whole life and sometimes this happens but if we'll taken care for they can explode with tons of leaves. None the less... not as advertised. So we put the tree in the suburban and drove back out there. Mom and my sister in law took it inside and unfortunately met Allison. My sweet sister in law explained the situation and asked had there been a mistake? Was the pot accidentally left out? If not, could we please get a refund or in the very least a store credit. Allison could not have been more rude. She dismissed them entirely and explained that "that tree is not in the condition it was when it left our store and there's nothing we can or will do about it. It's not in our store policy to have credits or give refunds". At this point my sister in law came to get me from the car sitting with the baby. I came in and spoke to allison. I told her that this is what a $30 tree from Home Depot would be and is not as advertised. She explained that there is not the same indoor plant market in Montana and that that is what you get for $165. A 5x+ markup?? No pot, not the height or fullness advertised, no customer service. She wasn't even nice about it. She almost shunned us from the store. We asked to speak to the owners (in disbelief of her attitude) and she refused. She said "they will tell you the same thing and they aren't here" We asked to get them on the phone. She said "no". So we left. A little shell shocked and in disbelief of what had just happened. We're nice people and small business owners ourselves. We can appreciate a range of reasons/situations/explanations and solutions... but allison would not even meet us with kindness and a "no". Still can't believe it and wonder if the owners know of this (we cant be the only ones shes treated this way) and support it - or if this is news to them. I truly hope the latter. And we will all get to see if this gets a response. read more

This is a review for the Garden Barn location off Huffine Lane in The Market. I've had good service at the main location, but find the Huffine Lane location to be lacking in high quality customer service. Today the store was crowded and the music was loud. I was shopping with an elderly relative with a hearing problem. They did turn off the music, but only after I asked them to turn it down. My main complaint however, is related to an orchid we were asking to return. We had purchased the orchid five days earlier at this location and three days into the purchase the leaves started developing large dark spots. When I brought the plant in I was told I had over watered the plant. I could see how perhaps this might be true, but three days in to my purchase? And after following the exact instructions for watering given to me by the attendant that sold us the plant? The attendant lacked the skills to communicate in a way that didn't place the blame on me. The policy of the store is to not offer any refunds on plants, or exchanges. I get it, but again, I'd only owned this plant for five days and the issue cropped up three days in. The attendant did give us a refund, noting we had purchased the plant for 20% off and the refund would indicate that price, which is fine. When I noted that we had specifically came to the store because of their 20% off sale and asked if they would honor that on a new purchase today, the attendant said no. She would also not let me swap my orchid out for a new orchid. So, we took our refund and did not purchase another one, and the Garden Barn lost a sale. Instead we went to a local grocery store and purchased a larger orchid, in a pot, for $15.00 less than the smaller orchid from the Garden Barn. Overall, the experience was unpleasant and made me yearn for a better customer experience. read more

I can't even express how much I love this place. I went for the first time recently (in December) and it was like an oasis in the winter. So many beautiful --and affordable!-- house plants, pots and gifts. I was in heaven. One of the sweet owners spent a lot of time walking through the store with me to help me find hard-to-kill varieties of plants to replace all the poor plants I've killed over the years, and he was so gracious and helpful and full of ideas. The adorable shop cat just added to the perfect atmosphere. I'll be back soon and will definitely be there this spring for outdoor plants as well. That's if I don't move in first! read more

They had some very unique stock, but everything was extremely overpriced. The shop smelled like weed smoke and they employees were nearly impossible to find. My friend had to hand one gal cash to purchase a smaller item, as the cashier couldn't be bothered to check her out at the counter. I've heard so many good things and I'm so disappointed by my experience. read more
