This area was once the lower floor recreational rooms of the house enjoyed by James Deering. These rooms for men's recreation once housed the bowling, smoking, and billiard rooms. You must purchase a museum admission to have access to the gift shop and cafe. In 2017 Hurricane Irma did significant damage depositing three feet of water into the gift shop and cafe. It took three and a half years for this part of the museum to reopen. The historic leaded glass doors alongside the swimming pool and the terrazzo floor in the Smoking Room were restored and the stainless-steel sinks and kitchen tables were refurbished while kitchen equipment was added. Today the newly renovated Vizcaya Café and Gift Shop is managed by A Joy Wallace Catering with an eye towards healthier grab and go food choices. The menu includes appetizers, salads, hot and cold sandwiches, wine, coffee, tea, and desserts. I particularly love that they carry a selection of Tea Forte. There is also a children's menu. Many of the dishes are prepared with herbs grown in the garden. You can eat inside or outside with a view of the garden. The gift shop has a selection of carefully curated items inspired by the history, architecture, and gardens of Vizcaya. They sell books, candles, tea, coffee, ornaments, vases, decorative items, models, mugs, dishes, t-shirts, postcards, towels, coasters, and more. I especially loved a glass monarch butterfly you can hang in the window. It is obvious that the museum put a lot of effort not only into the space of their retail area and cafe but also into the variety of items they sell and the food and drinks they serve. This is one of the nicest museum cafe and gift shops that I have had the pleasure of visiting.

It was ok but un-remarkable. Bread was fresh, but not grilled. The pork was pretty flavorless. The flatbread of the day, again, was ok,but unremarkable. Very heavy on the fig jam and balsamic. Clearly they are trying to be a step up from museum fast food, but not really there yet.

It's located on the northern edge of the Miami Design District; I found out that the owner (Piero) is the son of Uruguayan sculptor Pablo Atchugarry. As far as logistics, there is some street parking adjacent the art space as well as on nearby streets. My favorites on display included "orbs" made of combinations of threads by the artist Emil Lukas, as well as a metal sculpture and cityscapes.

Their pieces often play with heavy contrasts, like polished steel next to rough stone, making the art feel both ancient and completely modern at the same time. Honestly, the biggest highlight wasn't even the stunning art, but the amazing opportunity to meet Piero Atchugarry himself. I was completely stoked to find him at the opening! Being able to chat with him in person, even just for a few minutes, and hear about his vision for the gallery and the visual concept behind the artists he selects was so clarifying. It's one thing to look at a sculpture; it's another to get the backstory directly from the person curating the whole dialogue. That personal insight made all the difference, helping me truly appreciate the dynamic and thoughtful curation of the entire exhibition. It made the art stick in a way that reading a placard never could. If you're serious about contemporary art, especially work that is pushing boundaries in material and form, Piero Atchugarry Gallery is a guaranteed art experience getaway! I always go to the one at Bay Harbour Shops. I love food and drink festivals and this is one of the best. At this event Saks is closed to everyone accept people who have a ticket. The event in Bal Harbour is $25, with the money going to Mt. Sinai Cancer Center. The ticket price and charity depends on the location. This was my forth year going. There was three floors with food, drinks, and entertainment. The food was so good and you could have as much as you wanted. There was ahi tuna, ceviche, BBQ pork sliders, sausages, sushi, lobster sandwiches, shrimp, ravioli in cream sauce, ice cream, hot bread pudding, strawberry macaroons, and lots more. Each floor had an open bar. You could shop while you were there with a percentage of your purchase price going to the cancer center. There was even a casino set up in the first floor shoe department. The winner got a gift basket. The people at Saks know how to put on a great party. They put together the best restaurants, delicious food and drinks, entertainment, while supporting a local charity, all at a reasonable price.

Miami Worldcenter is a 4 billion, 27-acre mixed-use development in downtown Miami. It spans 10…read moreblocks and is opening in phases with retail, hotels, offices, and residences. The Perez Art Museum, Kaseya Center, and the Frost Science Museum are a just a few blocks away. The two public garages for Miami Worldcenter are at 9th Street and NE 2nd Avenue. I recently had the chance to explore the Miami Worldcenter when I attended a Yelp event at SixtyVines, one of the first tenants of this development. Much of it is still under construction but there is still enough open to warrant a visit. An open-air shopping promenade runs north and south from NE 10th Street to NE 7th Street and between NE 1st and 2nd Avenues. A large public plaza and park will be surrounded by shops and restaurants to create a gathering space with public art. In addition to SixtyVines where I dined there is an Apple store, the first Miami location for Savage X Fenty by pop singer Rhianna, the Museum of Ice Cream, and Lucky Strike for bowling. Other open businesses include Sephora, Lulumon, Ray-Ban, The Container Store, Lucid Motors, Naftali Group, Free People. Hyp, and The Spot Barbership. Coming soon, Serafina. I love the public art, especially the historic globe that was once in the Pan Am Terminal on Dinner Key and then graced the entrance to the former Miami Science Museum for 55 years before being restored and installed in Miami Worldcenter.I am looking forward to coming back for a visit to the fun Museum of Ice Cream and to try some of the other restaurants as they open.
