Where fresh market really stands out is in specialty items and deli/bakery quality. They have lots of dry goods that are hard or impossible to find elsewhere. Their meats are always the highest quality and the place to go if you want a particularly nice cut of something. Don't miss out on their baked goods! We always go here for "adult" birthday cakes since they offer smaller cakes (what adult is eating a full sheet cake for their birthday?) at the highest quality. There is a modest selection of generally good quality fresh and prepared food; I note that they have some interesting specialty items like the fava bean-based tofu replacement that's recently arrived on the market or their large bulk candy selection. I'd go here for the smells alone. It is a treat to walk through this store. Although quite expensive to me for an every day grocery it is perfect for when you want to boujee shop. In and out quick! I just needed some eggs and herbal tea. Pretty easy since they're practically across from each other. BUT they are in the back corner of the store. The items they have are generally of good quality (although the organic fruit is sometimes not in sufficient condition for me to purchase it). The biggest, consistent problem with the store is they are often out of stock of many items. And if you want bakery items, don't go when they first open, as the items won't be in the case yet. Until recently I thought FM had the best roasted chickens I had ever eaten. For the past several times I purchased the chicken it has been tough and often undercooked so that it was dry and difficult to get off the bone. This needs to be investigated by management. Could be a problem with the oven or lack of training of the staff. read more

Food use to be great. Unfortunately, the ground beef is overly greasy and smells greasy while cooking it.

This place is in line with the likes of whole foods and other natural stores (especially with prices). The store is super clean, very organized and we'll stocked for what they keep. My main issues are in regards to a complete lack or humane animal products. I prefer to purchase humane raised, no chemicals etc and you would expect that from the looks of this store. They have a nice alcohol section and wonderful vegetables and fruit. The store provides limited room for some things, they do the best they can. While I don't do my weekly shopping here, I love the Fresh Market for entertaining. I like the small footprint of the store. They have an amazing crusty bread selection and even better stinky cheese and fatty sausage selection. Olives? Yep! You get the drift. I even like the lighting here. Hubs and I have stopped in here several times for take-out dinners. They are better than anything I could whip up at home. My husband will vouch for that! It's not cheap but hey, Aiken also has a Food Lion and Aldi so The Fresh Market is just one more grocery option if you want to be fancy. I've always like FM, but they now have two employees who have tested positive for Covid 19. Customers are not complying with the store's policy to wear masks while in the store. And no enforcement from management. Why not? Fix this please! The store is too small to allow this behavior. read more

I have shopped in several Fresh Markets and the Aiken store is by far the worst in every category. If you arrive at the store around 9-10am you will find the employees are just starting to put out the specials, the bread, and the pre packaged deli cuts. Customer service is almost non-existent at this store. I recently stood at the deli counter waiting to order and an employee was four feet away and basically ignoring me. After 5-6 minutes I finally asked if he could help me and he said "what do you want". This type of service is the rule and not the exception. The stores has specials every week and more times than I can count they are out when I get there. This never happened when I shopped at the Pinehurst NC store. Management is sorely lacking at this facility and unfortunately I will not be shopping at this store again. read more

I love absolutely everything about The Fresh Market. I love their butcher counter, their dessert counter, their cheese counter - everything. Be aware that items are a bit pricer than the Kroger three minutes away, but they are ABSOLUTELY worth it. We always end up coming here when I go to visit my parents and we always leave with heavy bags and a lighter wallet. I have never had anything less than a 5 star meal from their bakery - cakes, cupcakes, cookies, muffins - they are all fantastic. The meat counter offers a large variety of meats and seafood, so there really is something for everyone. I like that I can find some more niche things here that other stores don't carry, like a huge selection of san pellegrino and chocolates. They have a great coffee and bulk nut section, as well as samples throughout. They also have a deal they do where it's $20 or $25 for a dinner. Most recently it was 4 pork kebabs, 4 veggies kebabs, mediterranean pasta salad, pita bread, and talenti gelato - a good deal! I wish I could give this place 10 stars. To be fair, I really love any Fresh Market. I've emailed corporate to ask them to PLEASE bring a Fresh Market to Charleston! Even though it's a chain, I love the smaller feel of the store. The prices are fair and the prepared foods are fantastic. If I'm in town, I always remember to bring my cooler bag to bring some goodies home. The staff is always extremely nice and there's a particular meat/seafood employee (his name escapes me but he's tall and talkative) who really goes above and beyond. He's always so sweet! Must try the Maryland style crab cakes (usually on sale on Saturdays and good for freezing); pine nut/spinach/lemon orzo pasta salad; any of the stuffed chicken; and seriously any of the cookies or desserts. I love stopping at Fresh Market for my lunch break. They have great options that are healthy and will fill you up. I love getting sushi here. It's always so fresh and the sushi chef always offers to make me something if they don't have what I'm looking for. Such great service here! I would argue that the sushi quality here is the best in town. My second favorite Fresh Market find would be the baked goods. I love the atmosphere and products sold at Fresh Market --5 stars. However, the customer service has really begun to lag. Two Saturday's in a row, there have been only two employees working the meat counter, and it has taken an inordinate amount of time for me and other customers to be waited on. The employees seem to be doing the best they can but there are not enough of them. Also, after checking out, I was asked if I needed help with my groceries. Well, not really, but they seemed a bit surprised when I said I would prefer to take them out in a shopping cart rather than the cart used by the "bag boy." I really don't mind taking groceries to my car but am irritated if I have to come all the way back in the store to return the cart since there are no cart caddies in the parking lot. read more

The grocery store all others strive to be. When in Aiken we always stop by. Great selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh meats and seafood, desserts are awesome, deli is oh so good. The sushi counter is as good as the best sushi restaurants, the sushi chefs will make rolls to order and do so with a great attitude, they will sell individual ingredients for sushi. The store always smells clean and is always clean. If you like bacon you must try a pound of the market fresh bacon. It is SO much better than the prepackaged industrial cured stuff. I usually like shopping at Fresh Market. The store is always clean, well stocked and the staff is friendly. My favorite section is the Bakery but upon my visit 2 days ago, I realized there had been major changes in the self serve area. I looked for my favorite cinnamon roll and realized it had been changed to something much less than it had been as had most of the items in the display. Very disappointing. Typically, I love The Fresh Market. The food is usually good and the customer service is usually above reproach. I went into the store last Saturday to purchase something from the bakery. I was on my phone when I entered the store, but I put my call on hold and placed the phone in my purse before approaching the bakery counter. A young lady was working behind the counter and she appeared to be preparing other baked goods, so I waited patiently for her to acknowledge my presence. When she finally raised her head and noted that I was there, she seemed annoyed, but she did ask if I needed something. She did not approach the front counter at all. I advised her that I wanted something from the front display and she looked at me as if to say, "what?" but she never came to the front counter. I decided that since it was such an inconvenience for her to serve me, I would not make a purchase. I was disappointed by this experience because usually, all of the employees at the Freshmarket are pleasant and professional.
