From a new volunteer:…read more I'll start with the sad news of having recently lost my Toby (my dog) to bone cancer. While on a bike ride, we rode past the Baltimore Humane Society that I had not known existed. I got home, Googled BHS, and found that they also had volunteer opportunities. *insert smile here* You can complete an application online to volunteer, and they will quickly get back to you with instructions on what to do next. Fast forward, and I'm at BHS for my first training (DogTown1). You'll have to attend various trainings for whichever tasks you would like to volunteer for. Let me also state that their property is VAST. They even have a pool for the dogs to swim in. *insert smile here* After the training, we were given a tour of the facility. Those pets are LOVED! The volunteers really take care of them, from walking to cleaning and just learning the characteristics of each pet; it's an amazing thing to see. We were also notified of five of the dogs who were going home that day. I look forward to the rest of my volunteer experience.

We were there today because we adopted a dog from MAS Rescue and MM allows them to use their store as a meet and greet location. The owner was extremely nice!! We were able to get a dog tag printed on the spot before we left, along with some other goodies. There is also an upstairs sales floor. Parking is available behind the store if you turn on Hampnett Ave. You can either enter the store through the back or walk around the block to the front entrance (we did this due to the rain and mud). They apply and turn in their adoption application, and pay the cat fee and adopt the cat! What a happy beginning! Please come to the AWL cat shelter open shelter days. Taking the donations to the MDSPCA, I was able to see just how awesome the staff still is, how clean and organized the kennels are, and just how beautiful the building is. The dogs awaiting adoption were clean and looked comfortable in their cozy kennels with toys, blankets, cots, etc. Of course, I wanted to take them all home with me, but Shadow's my bestest boy and being 13 1/2, he's my one and only for now.

Our two kitties had a wonderful foster, who we got to meet, first on a zoom call, then in person on the day of adoption, and we were given all their medical info, plus a solid plan to help them adjust to their new home. The adoption process was super easy, and they were willing to work with with me since we weren't sure my first dog was ready for a fur sibling. They wanted to make sure that the adoption was a good fit for everyone. I can say that compared to other rescues I have worked with, CDR goes out of their way to ensure that they are giving dogs a good home and make sure they are up front about a dogs needs and medical history. Trying to adopt a cat from City Kitties place was one of the most upsetting experiences I've had in…read moreyears. The way they handled it was so concerning that and I can't in good conscience recommended them to anyone. They are too disorganized and unprofessional to be trusted with the well-being of vulnerable animals. The short version of my story is, they told me for weeks that they were working on my adoption application when they'd actually deleted it because of a technical glitch that they never bothered to tell me about. The full version is as follows: I spent hours filling out the lengthy application to adopt a cat, Lala, from them and waited for weeks to hear back about her. Every time I contacted them about my application, they said they were working on it and I would hear back soon. As time went on, I knew something was off, but I didn't know what. Finally, after weeks of little-to-no communication from them, they sent me a curt email telling me they'd just given the cat to someone else (who applied long after I did, so clearly they have the capability to get adoptions done quickly when they want to) and that they knew all along I'd been trying to adopt her but had deleted my application without considering it and without telling me they'd done so. I was absolutely devastated. I'd wanted that cat so badly and had been waiting for weeks to hear back. I cried for days after getting that message. Everything about the way they handled this was incredibly suspicious and frankly gross. I truly don't understand why they chose again and again, for weeks, to tell me that they were working on my application when that wasn't true. They should have told me that there'd been a glitch so I could fill out a new one - that would have taken no more time and effort than telling me they were working on it. (Not to mention, the whole time this was happening, this poor little cat was homeless. Did they not care about her at all?) At the very least, they should have just said at the beginning that they weren't considering me; that would have saved me weeks of anxiety, confusion, and uncertainty and then the heartbreak at the end. No one at the organization acknowledged that I was hurt or that telling me they were working on my application when they'd actually deleted it was, at best, a wildly inappropriate and unprofessional thing to do. FF, I now have a lovely cat I adopted from Last Chance Animal Rescue and we're very happy together.

Incredible experience from start to finish…read more I recently adopted a puppy from here, and the entire process was seamless. The staff was so helpful and accommodating -- they worked around my schedule and made everything feel smooth and stress-free. What really stood out to me was the follow-up. They checked in to make sure the adjustment was going well, which meant so much. You can tell they truly care about the animals and the families they're placing them with. I absolutely love my puppy -- she has been such a wonderful addition to our family. I'm so grateful for the support and kindness we received throughout the process. Highly recommend!

I was told I would receive it in my email upon adopting, and that they would mail hard copies in the next week (still havent recieved 4 weeks later). My vet got in touch with the rescue this evening and were informed my dog, that I adopted April 10, will need all her vaccines again since they expire May 23. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS RESCUE...they should NOT be adopting dogs out knowing all the vaccines expire in 6 weeks without informing the new owners!

Can't say enough good things about the folks at Furever Home in East Petersburg. They provide a…read moregood environment and the cats here are welcome to live out their lives if nobody adopts them. When I adopted a Pet Pantry cat who was living at Furever Home, I almost felt bad about taking him out of there. Food bowls, litter boxes, cat trees and toys everywhere! Zero rocking chairs! This is kitty Valhalla, at least at shelters go. I told them I couldn't compete with that many trees and toys. But what these cats need most is a home. And that part is working out well, at least in my case. This older male cat had no reason to bond with me but nevertheless, here he is as I write this, hopping into my lap and waiting for me to go to bed so he can curl up next to me.
