A friend of mine suggested this place to me when we were discussing protein bars and shakes one day (yeah - fascinating conversation for most of you I'm sure...). I have to say I'm so glad I found this place! The worker at the store (buff young buck...rarr) was totally helpful. He knew what he was talking about and I felt so much more secure in asking him for supplement recommendations over the Filipino grandmas that work at the GNCs in the malls. Their prices are cheaper than GNC too, and BYB (buff young buck) also told me that they would price match anyone if I found some items cheaper at another retailer. One thing though: I didn't understand why BYB kept telling everyone his weight? BYB: "Yeah this protein shake has better carbs for you. I weight 220." CUSTOMER: "Oh, okay... Yeah Marlyn A is right, the one thing that does suck about this location is that they always seem the have the crappiest hours. Whenever I do come, they're always closed even though the hours on their door says they're suppose to be open. The brand is good, never gonna knock them of that. I usually buy the Gourmet shakes because they taste the best. I used to buy their other brands because of their nutrient contents, they do help with muscular growth and bulking up if you need that stuff. I want to do 4.5 stars on this - Pros: Great selection, great products, John and Lance are very knowledgeable/helpful Cons: Price I go to these guys for pretty much everything in the supplement area and I drop like $200 a month. I have not had a lot of experience with Chris (he is the newest) but I rely on Lance and John to make informed decisions on the products I purchase. Their advice has proven helpful about 95% of the time. These guys are bodybuilders (or ex) so they know what they are selling - SO IMPORTANT!!! GNC, really? Snot nosed kids working at a retail store... The store is very well organized and never messy - not sure if the others caught them on a stocking day or something..? There is an MMA element to the store but I am sure that is because there is local demand for the product. I orginally came here looking for some new boxing gloves and was pleasantly surprised. Besides having a TON of fight gear and apparal, the pricing was also very fair and competitive. Alot of places charge a ridiculous markup so it was nice to not have to pay extra and not have to wait as opposed to buying from a website to ship it. Lance was quite friendly and helpful with his information. The place is pretty sweet and definitely has most of what you'll need in terms of workout supplements, pre/during/post workout, etc. and Lance is quite informative. As for MMA gear it's nearly the only store supplying it in the San Jose/Campbell/Los Gatos area, so it's like going to Toys R Us if you're a martial artist. The gear is on the pricey side, as gear often is. But that's to be expected as Max Muscle supplies ONLY quality products and brands, so if you're ready to invest and stop buying your gear at Big 5, this is the place to do it for a 408 fighter. I'd certainly come back to support local business and guarantee I get quality information and products, but if you're concerned about cost a number of things here could be purchased cheaper online. Additionally, it's a relatively small shop so it isn't decked out beyond imagination or anything, but it's got what you're looking for. 5 stars for great service, selection and quality, minus one star because everything here costs a pretty penny. read more

I had no idea that each Max Muscle is independently owned. Though I typically go to the Blossom Hill location because it is near my work, this spot is located closer to my house. Upon entering, I was kindly greeted by a very upbeat guy. I immediately saw the wall of Max Pro protein powder and decided on getting the s'mores flavor. I also browsed around to check out what else they had that would catch my eye. In the fridge up front, they have tons of Muscle Egg in a variety of flavors, so that's great to know. I was also tempted to get a new meal prep carrier and lifting gloves. However, I had to restrain myself. It was also awesome that I was looking for a quick meal prep spot, so the gentleman suggested I go down the street to Lean Feast.
