But maybe it's not my vibe, because I felt like it was lacking in some ways, or perhaps it was just too big for our party size. I'm not sure. If you're considering renting Hot Shot Muffler, I'd say it's important to have a lot of direction with how you want to decorate/utilize the space. There's an open indoor and outdoor area (connected by a big garage door wall that opens). They allow you to bring in catering (we had a taco guy). Regardless, it was generally clean. There's a fun back area with some games. There's one gender-neutral restroom. Plenty of street parking in the adjacent streets and metered parking a few blocks out too.

It sat vacant for a few years and briefly reopened as a performing arts space in 2013 but was forced to shut down. After being declared a historic monument, it underwent a complete renovation by new owners in 2015. The building changed hands again in 2023 and functions as an event center and a shared common workspace. This three-story venue has rooms upstairs. Downstairs is the main room with lofty ceilings, large windows, wood floors, a kitchen, bathrooms, and a stage for a DJ or live bands. Downstairs is a speakeasy style bar and the backyard is also a nice spot for an outdoor reception. I've driven by this place numerous times thinking it was just a church. I recently saw that there was a Holiday Market Place being held here so I stopped in to do some shopping. There was a man on the front lawn making pupusas and people sitting at tables enjoying them. Inside is quite spacious and there were several vendors selling their merchandise. The tables were nicely spaced apart, so it was easy to browse. This realty is a nice spot for an event or to use as a shared workspace. *Street parking only.

CRATES. they barely had any garbage disposals for us to clean. main thing was the workers under the company look lazy and rude. if we didn't clean, they would keep the deposit. I don't think a reception of that size would be overlooked by the host and simply wasn't disclosed that significant detail. for the price of a different venue with all services for cleanup, seems like it's better to go somewhere else. plus, no parking and it's only street. interesting space but pass.

They put together a lovely punch party spread for our guests, hit every music cue perfectly, and performed a beautiful ceremony in the outdoor chapel that was heartfelt and personal. Tess and Dan are two absolutely genuine, loving, and caring people that went well above and beyond to guarantee my wife and I the type of ceremony we had only intended! A very close, intimate, and small ceremony amongst our closest friends and family including our son (our little terrier mix Pazuzu) was all that we wanted, and Tess and Dan more than delivered. From the beautiful aesthetic of the house inside and out based on all of the love, passion, and hard work that they themselves put into consisting of all the woodwork, metal crafting, and landscaping, to how genuinely accommodating both Tess and Dan were and are. Though small and intimate was the type of ceremony my wife and I were going for, our party of invitees was rather large. Because of this, both the inside chapel and outside barn was unable to accommodate the size of our party in one ceremony. Instead, Tess and Dan worked with us and decided to offer us to have two back-to-back ceremonies! Something they had never done before! One for our friends inside, and the other for our families outside; and the turnout was absolutely AMAZING, and we could not have asked for anything more! If a Vegas style elopement or micro-wedding is what you have in mind, do not waste the opportunity on having it here at the Old Brown House. Because this is not your typical, boring, outdated, and unfashionable setting. Tess and Dan are two beautiful people that have put a lot of time, effort, and love into this house that you will be left feeling nothing short of elated and gratified. Endless thanks, Tess and Dan!

I really enjoyed the eclectic, quirky vibe of The LA Breakfast Club. Founded in 1925, this might be the oldest LA Club in town. Everyone is so welcoming and there are lots of big personalities among the LABC members and gold-star newbies who made the morning unforgettable. Or as I'd like to say, lots of good eggs! The breakfast spread was thoughtful & versatile, the decorations were fun, and the secret handshake took my half-awake brain a while to get a hang of (but I finally did it by the time it was almost over). But no more spoilers as this is one place you have to experience if you're a creative soul. The draw for me? I was there to listen to the guest speaker, Justin Halpern, who's most known for his books, "Sh*t My Dad Says", "I Suck At Girls", and "Get Lost". Every Wednesday morning, a new guest speaker takes the podium. Novelists, comedians, entertainers, retirees, Disney or Bob Baker creatives, community leaders, world activists, and amazing storytellers preside over the Shrine of Friendship. Doors open at 6:45. I've been to this auditorium many times over the years, mostly to attend Los Angeles Breakfast Club…read moreevents on Wednesday mornings but I've also been to a few receptions and other parties here. This place was built in the 1960's by the Breakfast Club and given to the city in exchange for holding their meetings there. It is quite spacious with an abundance of parking in their private lot. It is a great location for larger events in that they have a stage and a large industrial kitchen. The downside is that the place needs some work. While I don't mind the 60's vibe, it seems that the city is not maintaining the space. The folding tables are quite worn around the edges and seem to be quite old. The chairs, while not completely uncomfortable, are certainly feeling their age. The kitchen, while quite large, apparently needs work. The large commercial dishwasher has been inoperable for a few years according to a staff member I spoke with, making it difficult for caterers who have to hand wash everything. Why do we pay all of these tax dollars to maintain city owned facilities? The bathrooms were remodeled somewhat recently. Whoever designed the remodel of the men's room should be fired. Who would place the hand dryer in a corner next to a urinal where both cannot be accessed at the same time. That is so odd to me. But overall, I'm happy to see the building being used. There are so few places large enough for big events that also has a large parking lot. I just wish the city took pride in the building, especially since they didn't pay for it. The least they could do is maintain it since they are charging a hefty fee for its usage.
