We got married at Old Brown House this past June and it was absolutely amazing. The space is genuinely gorgeous but Tessie and Dan are what make this place truly special. They put together a lovely punch party spread for our guests, hit every music cue perfectly, and performed a beautiful ceremony in the outdoor chapel that was heartfelt and personal. They handled everything, right down to filing the license paperwork, so we could just be present and enjoy the day. If you're looking for a small wedding with a lot of heart, this is the place. We can't recommend Old Brown House enough. read more

If I could put ZERO stars I would! We are extremely disappointed and hurt by our experience with Old Brown House. After paying a $3,000 deposit for a one-hour wedding ceremony, we had an 11-minute conversation with Tessie simply to update her on our plans for our wedding. During that conversation, we explained that we wanted our own pastor to come and officiate our ceremony and marry us. We also politely expressed that some of Tessie's responses and the way she communicated with us felt a little rough around the edges. Throughout the conversation, she repeatedly emphasized that we were renting the space and that there were things that were done the "Old Brown House way." We never disagreed with that. We understood that we were renting their property and respected the character, traditions, and way they operate. We were not trying to change Old Brown House. We simply wanted to incorporate one personal and very meaningful part of our wedding into the ceremony: having our own pastor officiate and marry us. What happened next was shocking. That same evening, after this brief conversation, Tessie canceled our wedding. No clear or specific explanation was given for why our wedding was being canceled. Our wedding was scheduled for November 28 less than a month away. By the time this happened, we had already paid for and sent our invitations, hired our photographer and other vendors, and made numerous arrangements based on having our ceremony at Old Brown House. We were suddenly left scrambling to find another location with very little time and after making significant financial commitments. What makes this even more difficult is that this was not simply an event or party to us. This was our wedding ceremony and a deeply meaningful moment rooted in our faith. Having our own pastor officiate and marry us was important to us, and we were simply trying to incorporate a small piece of ourselves into the ceremony. The timing of the cancellation, immediately following our conversation about our pastor and our desire to incorporate this personal element, left us questioning whether that conversation played a role in the decision. We cannot say what Tessie's motivation was because no clear explanation was provided, but the circumstances certainly left us with questions. Regardless of the reason, canceling a couple's wedding less than a month before their scheduled date, after accepting a $3,000 deposit and allowing them to make substantial arrangements around the venue, is incredibly disappointing and unprofessional. We understand that a venue has the right to establish its rules and expectations. We also understand that Old Brown House has its own way of doing things. What we did not expect was to be canceled after a brief conversation in which we were simply trying to communicate our wishes and respectfully incorporate something meaningful to us. A wedding is one of the most important days of a couple's life. Couples deserve clear communication, professionalism, transparency, and considerationespecially when a venue has already accepted their deposit and the wedding is only weeks away. Unfortunately, that was not our experience with Old Brown House. Please do not book here! read more

Shocking lack of professionalism and customer service. If you are looking for a venue that respects your time, money, and wedding day, look elsewhere. We paid $3,000 for a 1 hour ceremony slot at Old Brown House, but working with them specifically Tessie was a frustrating experience from start to finish. Communications over the phone were cold and dismissive. On top of that, they tried to tack on an extra $150 charge just to allow our Christian pastor to officiate. When my fiancé politely addressed how difficult communication had been, rather than working with us, they sent an email canceling our event just 30 days before our wedding date. All of our travel plans, family arrangements, and event details were already finalized. Leaving a couple to scramble for a replacement venue with less than a month's notice over basic communication feedback is inexcusable. Absolute worst venue experience in Highland Park. Do not book here! read more

Old Brown House - Their email cancelation - Wedding Chapels Near Me - Los Angeles, California

A WAY overdue review here... But what a REMARKABLY SENSATIONAL experience the Old Brown House provided to my wife and me! Tess and Dan are two absolutely genuine, loving, and caring people that went well above and beyond to guarantee my wife and I the type of ceremony we had only intended! A very close, intimate, and small ceremony amongst our closest friends and family including our son (our little terrier mix Pazuzu) was all that we wanted, and Tess and Dan more than delivered. From the beautiful aesthetic of the house inside and out based on all of the love, passion, and hard work that they themselves put into consisting of all the woodwork, metal crafting, and landscaping, to how genuinely accommodating both Tess and Dan were and are. Though small and intimate was the type of ceremony my wife and I were going for, our party of invitees was rather large. Because of this, both the inside chapel and outside barn was unable to accommodate the size of our party in one ceremony. Instead, Tess and Dan worked with us and decided to offer us to have two back-to-back ceremonies! Something they had never done before! One for our friends inside, and the other for our families outside; and the turnout was absolutely AMAZING, and we could not have asked for anything more! If a Vegas style elopement or micro-wedding is what you have in mind, do not waste the opportunity on having it here at the Old Brown House. Because this is not your typical, boring, outdated, and unfashionable setting. Tess and Dan are two beautiful people that have put a lot of time, effort, and love into this house that you will be left feeling nothing short of elated and gratified. Endless thanks, Tess and Dan! read more

My wife and I are extremely glad that we chose to get married at the Old Brown House! The property is stunning, and parking was easy on a Saturday afternoon. Dan and Tessie were absolutely wonderful to work with! Dan made the ceremony so intimate and romantic, we wouldn't have asked for a better officiant. Tessie was also very helpful as we planned our wedding day. The Old Brown House is the perfect place to get married if you want to have a stress free and romantic wedding day. read more

Old Brown House - Perfect wedding day - Wedding Chapels Near Me - Los Angeles, California

We had our ceremony and pre-party package at old brown house and were so happy with how everything went. The ambiance is funky, warm, and celebratory -- all of our guests LOVED it as much as we did! Tessie and Dan were wonderful to work with and helped us along the way, answering all of our questions as we became increasingly frantic with planning! They were more than open to having our dads play music together before the ceremony, which was important to us. Dan's officiating was also beautiful. If you're looking for an affordable and unique space to have your ceremony, whether you reserve your time or are a walk-in, we definitely recommend checking out old brown house. read more

Truly an absolutely beautiful and magical place. The owners go above and beyond to make your wedding day feel special, calm, and memorable. We opted for the punch party and indoor wedding chapel. They included drinks and snacks reflective of my husband's culture!! This little personal touch was unexpected but so beyond meaningful and sweet. Just one example of how they really went above and beyond to make the day special. Further, everywhere on the property makes for an excellent picture backdrop and the prices are very reasonable. It is the perfect place for couples who don't want to fuss with too many details/customizations. We absolutely loved our wedding here! Thank you so much Tessie and Dan for making our day so special. read more

For the last year, my husband and I had debated about renewing our vows for our 25th wedding anniversary. Every venue was way out of budget and not at all a reflection of who we are. Then, in June, I read an article about how a couple, who used to offer free weddings at Burning Man, had converted an old brown house into a wedding chapel during the pandemic. This couple was now offering micro weddings at a crazy affordable price. I reached out to them to share my own (very low-budget) wedding story and inquire about a vow renewal service but did not expect much in return. I was wrong. Dan and Tessy are simply loving people. When we met to chat about booking with them, I immediately felt at home. The decor is old-timey with muted tones and is absolutely beautiful. We chatted for over an hour, but it felt like minutes. They gave us a tour and showed us the bridal suite that is filled with dresses that can be borrowed for the service. All the while, we were followed around by Little Man and Pickles, two of the sweetest dogs I have met outside my own home (because my dogs are the best). The day of our renewal was everything I had hoped it would be and more! Tessy and Dan were so welcoming and accommodating. When my 9-year-old asked if there were snacks beside what was provided, Tessy dug around in the freezer and made him mini corndogs! She was nicer to my kids than I am sometimes; if I had heard his request, I would have lovingly said, "Suck it up, buttercup; enjoy what was provided." They were patient and kind and did not rush us in any way to get started or get out of their way. When Tessy saw we had my little nieces in attendance, she immediately pulled out flower girl baskets. Although the little ones were not interested, my ll- and 12- year old sons were more than happy to fill the roles and were the best flower boys I've ever seen. After the ceremony, Tessy and Dan easily chatted with everyone in attendance and truly felt like they were part of the family. Dan and Tessy operate Old Brown House out of love. They love their house, what they do, and the people they are serving. I wish Dan and Tessy were my friends in real life. I might have another service of some kind just to hang with them again. read more

If you're looking for an alternative to the overwrought, overpriced wedding-industrial complex, this place is for you! It's gorgeous, relaxed, intimate, so romantic - and yet somehow, affordable. Every detail, from the metal sculptures to the reclaimed wood chapel (complete with stained glass!) has been lovingly crafted by hand. It's truly stunning! Plus, the owners, Tess and Dan, have a genuine interest in helping you create a ceremony that is personal and meaningful. You can go as traditional or non-traditional as you want. They are so full of love and enjoy spreading love to others. I can't imagine a wedding venue with more heart and soul. It's not about the money here, it's about creating a memorable experience. This is a very special place! read more

This place is magical and just the perfect intimate setting for a wedding ceremony. The owners are just the most pleasant and caring couple you could have asked for to marry you. My cousin got married here and it was so special and they make you feel like family. Not to mention their puppy is also dressed with a bow tie to partake in the wedding as well. I would definitely recommend this place to get married at. read more

Wow. Where to even start. My husband and I wanted a micro wedding with all the regular fixings and old brown house satisfied our appetite. We initially saw it advertised as Vegas style weddings, which was not exactly what we were looking for, but we saw the photos and we knew this was exactly what we were looking for. when we sat with the artists, we knew it was the perfect venue for the small wedding we wanted that still required lots of planning. I would call our wedding a micro traditional wedding if I were to label it. We wanted the bells and whistles and only close family. Intimacy was important to us while we shared the most sacred thoughts. Dan and tess, the owners are literally amazing. They are so good at what they do, we barely had to coordinate with them and we had the wedding of our dreams. They took such good care of us and our family, and they helped with every little detail they could. They were the coordinators/ fairy god people. The art(home) inside is amazing and is all custom made by the owners. And they are so fun!! They have everything you need, even if you cannot afford a dress, they have an entire room of thifted dresses in many sizes to borrow. If you planned all or most of the details like we did, they do not even need to be instructed on details, they already know what to do. If they plan quickly and perhaps right before, like ours, do not be alarmed! They will NOT let you down on your special day. They are pros. They literally blew our minds seeing them in action, their passion for weddings and love, and their excellence in what they do. Tess and Dan also shared their outlook and experience with love and marriage before our marriage, and this sacred guidance has been a blessing in our lives. Our love has flourished since meeting these two magical people. Tess and Dan will never tell you what to think, they will just show you who they are and if you're lucky enough, you will find a teaching in just meeting them. They really are magical people. My husband and I had the best day out our lives. We were so thrilled we tipped them 33% Whether you want a Vegas style wedding or a small fully done wedding, the old brown house will never disappoint. My husband and I could not be more pleased with what a beautiful and special wedding we had. We are so honored to have shared our special moment with Tess, Dan, our family, and the house. Thank you guys! read more

Crossing paths with Tessie and Dan was such a gift in our magical, unconventional journey. We adored having our special day at the incredible, unique space they have cultivated at Little Brown House. They are both whimsical, free spirits and we felt such a kindredness with the paths they have trekked. They offer a reimagined vision of what a wedding ceremony can look like and we so appreciated and valued their authenticity and warm "reception." read more
