The rooms are wonderful and spotless. The beds smell good. The owner is a delightful soul who smiles constantly and laughs frequently. She has a habit of baking cookies as her guests arrive. This is a perfect escape for a happy couple or for a family mini retreat. If you have business in town, especially at Franklin College, this is the best place to stay.

We booked the dinner & a movie package, which included a gift certificate to a local restaurant of our choice and a pair of movie passes to the historic Artcraft theater in downtown Franklin. We ended up not going to the movie as planned because after we checked in, we just felt so cozy & at home that we decided we needed to take afternoon naps instead! :) There are several different rooms to choose from at the Inn and you can select which one best fits your needs by viewing photos/reading descriptions online. Or just ask Kim, the owner, for tips. We stayed in the Heritage room and found it to be very spacious and comfy and every other room looked equally nice. In the evening, we enjoyed one of the two media rooms available and snuggled up to watch some TV. The inn offers a DVD library and a variety of board games as well. Our breakfast was fantastic. I had waffles with strawberry topping, bacon, eggs and a fruit plate. My husband had a Western omelet, sausage, hash browns and toast. The servings were generously sized and freshly prepared. We loved the fact that there so many options to choose from for breakfast. You can check out their menu online. We would definitely stay here again and will recommend it to family & friends! If you're considering a visit in the winter, it is really cozy inside, but if you go in the spring, summer or fall, you could enjoy the gardens in the back...everything was totally frozen when we went but it looks like it would be gorgeous when plants are in bloom!

Breakfast was amazing. We had quiche, fresh fruit, coffee, and orange juice, ready at 8am! Strangely, we were the only pair staying in a room that night. I've looked at this inn in the past and it has always been booked up! We stayed in the Victorian room, which was excellent, and I think we'll try for the craftsman room next!

Special shout out to Pam and Yvonne for going above and beyond to ensure that we were ok. A special mention/ thanks to Dewayne, even though he is no longer an innkeeper there. We also liked the ability to get a bus to the transit center and to different areas. If there is a need for accommodation again, we won't hesitate to return to the Stone Soup Inn.

Our wedding at Clayshire Castle was beautiful, but the experience with Douglas left us very…read moreuncomfortable. We rented the castle for our wedding weekend, including overnight accommodations for our family, and while we appreciated the unique setting, he repeatedly crossed boundaries during our stay. Throughout our wedding night, Douglas frequently entered or attempted to enter our rented spaces uninvited, including coming down to our side of the castle and asking us to turn off lights to save electricity. While I can understand wanting to conserve energy, several guests returned to their rooms after leaving lights on and found them off, which was unsettling and felt like someone had been in the room. We paid a significant amount for the venue, and it's hard to imagine that the cost of electricity would come close to what we paid for the event. The situation made us and our guests feel like our privacy wasn't being fully respected during what should have been a private and personal celebration. During the rehearsal and throughout the weekend, Douglas made several comments that felt unnecessary and intrusive. During the rehearsal, he told my husband and I to "act like you like each other" because he felt we weren't standing close enough at the altar, though there were much more appropriate ways to make that suggestion. He also repeatedly remarked on my hair being down, referencing medieval customs. The frequency of these comments over the rehearsal, wedding night, and breakfast the next morning made the interactions uncomfortable. Our parents and other guests also noticed how he spoke differently to the younger adults in our group, often in a condescending tone. During the reception, Douglas and Josephine helped clear plates as guests finished eating, which we appreciated. However, a few guests witnessed Douglas taking a plate of food and a cookie from our catering as he returned to his side of the castle. We weren't upset about it, but it did feel odd since it hadn't been discussed beforehand. The venue itself is stunning, but couples considering booking should be aware that the owners remain very present and involved throughout the event. Sometimes in ways that make it difficult to fully relax and enjoy your celebration.

The owners apologized for not having as much decorations up during the pandemic to keep it safe, which is cute, but I thought it looked great regardless. We opted in to have a steak dinner for two for $25. It came with two bacon wrapped steaks for us to cook ourselves, corn, potatoes, rolls, fruit, cheesecake & drinks. What a steal!!! The cabins are not super close together so privacy is good. There are some hiking trails nearby.
