The bottle of sparkling wine eventually made it back to the table, but it still wasn't chilled properly. The ambiance was another disappointment. The hotel, which looked beautiful in the photos online, felt much less appealing in person and looked more like a motel than the upscale property portrayed on the website. To make matters worse, we were charged a 22% service charge despite the poor level of service we received. Ranges from Soup & Salad w/ Cheese & crackers with fresh cut up fruit. Other nights included Hot Dogs with Fries or Spaghetti with Garlic Bread. The hotel tries to mix it up and offers variety. We stayed in an Urban Suite which was perfect for our stay and provided a fair amount of room for a large stay. We had a full size refrigerator with 2 burner electric stove and microwave. Had a dishwasher and all the basics, dishes, silverware, pot and pans and things like a cutting board, can opener, large knife and other things. 2 TV's (1 in living area and the other in bedroom area). Plenty of storage and closet space. 3 washers and dryers on the property, nice gym with variety of weights and a pool area along with 2 barbecues. A big shout out to Elizabeth (Front Desk Area). She was very helpful and was one of the main reasons we stayed at this property. Very comfortable place to stay. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

The sundry shop in the lobby has various snacks and drinks, but NO bottled water for sale. (WHY??) I walked out to buy water in the neighborhood, but there is nothing close. The Chevron station across the street closes early. BRING YOUR OWN WATER!! (2) The shower products absolutely suck. After just one shower, my skin and scalp were dry and itchy. BRING YOUR OWN SHOWER PRODUCTS!! (3) I booked and paid in full for my stay in via booking.com. But of course, the hotel double-charged my credit card for the two night stay. So I had to spend time the next morning on the phone hashing that out. CHECK YOUR BILL UPON CHECKING OUT!! They do offer a pretty legit breakfast spread, however. So two stars for that. What made The Meadows so great was the combination of the people, the property, and the location. The management and maintenance teams were wonderful throughout my time here, the community was friendly, and the grounds were always exceptionally clean and beautifully maintained. There's a ton of greenery throughout the property, and it always felt like the people taking care of the community genuinely cared about making it a nice place to live. That experience started before I even moved in. The leasing staff took the time to understand what I was looking for and helped me find a unit that fit my preferences. They were even gracious enough to work with me on getting a better deal. Looking back, that first interaction was a pretty good indication of how I'd be treated over the next three years. I also really appreciated how reasonable management was when it came to renewals. Even with the rent-control limits on annual increases, my rent generally went up by less than what they could have charged. I never felt like management was trying to squeeze as much as possible out of existing residents, which unfortunately isn't something I can say about every apartment community in the Bay Area. Maintenance was excellent too, although, honestly, the fact that I only had a single maintenance request in more than three years probably says something on its own. When I did need help, everyone I interacted with was friendly and helpful. The Meadows is also easily one of the cleanest apartment communities I've ever seen. When I moved in, it was obvious that they had put real care into preparing and cleaning the unit. As someone who is pretty particular about keeping my own home clean, I appreciated that. I noticed the same attention to detail when I moved out and saw the cleaning checklist they use to prepare apartments for the next resident. It was surprisingly close to the kind of checklist I'd make myself. My apartment had wonderful natural light and became an incredibly cozy home for me. I faced the expressway, and while there was a small amount of road noise, it was never enough to really bother me. More than anything, I loved coming home every day. That may be the simplest and most important compliment I can give a place where I spent more than three years. The location was great as well. There are restaurants and grocery stores nearby, plenty of good routes for running and walking, and it's incredibly easy to get onto highways. The property itself also has great amenities, and I particularly appreciated how well the gym was maintained. Despite being so conveniently located, the community always felt comfortable and safe. I never felt uneasy living or walking around here. There were also community events throughout the year that brought residents together. I certainly didn't go to every one, but I appreciated that they existed and that management put real effort into making The Meadows feel like a community rather than just a collection of apartments. Even moving out was surprisingly easy. Everything was handled professionally and straightforwardly, without unnecessary stress or surprises. It was nice that my last experience with the management team was just as positive as my first. The only reason I moved was because I wanted to live in a different part of the Bay Area. It had nothing to do with The Meadows itself. Over the years I visited plenty of other apartment communities where friends and coworkers lived, and I honestly never came away wishing I had chosen somewhere else. I'm fortunate to be a 6 six figure earner(on the low end), but no way for me! Someone with this kind of money to blow per a night for hotel would likely rather be in Paris, Venice, Tahiti, London, Bermuda, Vegas or anywhere else but Menlo Park. I think this place survives solely on business travel for the all the Tech and Venture Capital companies in Silicon Valley, which is a very boring place as a tourist destination. Just as my Finance related conference yuppy colleagues were exiting, another mob of blue/black sport coat BioTech conference type yuppy men were entering the property. PROS: -Large, luxurious, modern, and clean rooms. -Modern immaculate furniture. -Glorious, gorgeous, marble tile, and welcoming bathroom with dual head shower and deep bath tub...deep enough that I took my first bath in 10+ years. -Amazing soft yet supportive king sized bed. -Nice pool area -Coffee, Tea, Minibar that I was too afraid to find out how much it all costs -Free water bottles(I would hope for $1000+/night) -They did not charge me $25/day for self parking. -Well staffed with very friendly folks. CONS: -Ridiculously expensive! -Everything else is expensive as well such food and drink, but again most folks are here on business accounts -No fridge, but I did toss some water bottles on top of the minibar's booze. -It's a campus style property with multiple buildings "cottages", so if you're in cottage 17 like I was its a bit of walk with stairs to get to the conference areas. If it was raining, this would've been gawd awful. In conclusion, I would happily come here again on someone else's invite and dime....but if I'm taking vacation it'll be in Hawaii. At least. The hotel is located right by SLAC, tucked into a hillside setting in Menlo Park. The property feels peaceful, elegant, and very well maintained. Madera Restaurant offers a full upscale dining menu and is a great choice for lunch, dinner, a business meal, date night, or a special occasion. Madera Bar is perfect for cocktails, wine, and light bites in a more relaxed but still refined atmosphere. Bici Coffee is a nice option for coffee, pastries, or a casual stop for bikers if you do not want a full sit-down meal. Rosewood Sand Hill is also a nice place for a tea party or an afternoon gathering with friends. One of the best parts is the view from the hill. I like how you can partially see the highway from the restaurant, but you cannot really hear it, so the setting feels very calm and secluded. Occasionally, you can see some movement in the distance, but if you were not looking in that direction, you probably would not even notice it. Because of that, the whole place feels very private and relaxing. Visiting Rosewood Sand Hill feels like you have been transported somewhere away from Silicon Valley, even though you are actually right in the middle of it, just a walking distance from SLAC, the particle accelerator, and Zoox's autonomous vehicles. That contrast makes the experience even more interesting: you are surrounded by the Silicon Valley's technology and innovation, but the atmosphere feels secluded, quiet, luxurious, and almost like a retreat.
