Ahh - this place was so good for my soul. I came in the afternoon so it was not crowded, and I had a whole table to myself. I ordered a mini beer, and a kids size order of Fish and Chips and it was a good portion for those who want to try it out without a huge meal. The customer service was amazing, and I felt like I was right at home. My immediate reaction to stumbling upon this pub went something along the lines of... 'What the frak - how did they hide a giant-ass big ol' mother of an outdoor patio here?!' To be fair, I didn't really say that out loud, but it was amongst some of the more colourful inner monologue I'd had with myself that day. And though I can't speak to the food from first-hand experience, I can say that the burger in particular looked massive and mouthwatering. Instead, I downed a pint or two of Blue Moon (on draught, no less) and enjoyed being outdoors during the brief London summer days. Though there's more outdoor seating than you'd find virtually anywhere else around these parts, you'll still having to be somewhat cut-throat in order to grab yourself a table on a nice evening. I love the Flask...it's as close to the idea of a German beergarden as you can get here in London - although I doubt that they would be amused if I decked the table with my red-checkered cloth and my home-made sandwiches - which is a staple of any good German beer garden. In any case, the Flask is a great place to meet up with friends during the warm London days; but it is equally pleasant to come here during the colder season. The inside of this ancient pub (AD 1663) offers plenty of seating, spread over various medium-sized rooms. Now, as for the food I can only give three stars - its solid pub food, but nothing to rave home about. I usually go for the burger, but the sausage and mash doesn't disappoint either. (If you're looking for a gastro pub, I'd recommend St John's Tavern down in Archway or The Wells Tavern across the Heath in Hampstead Village.) read more

What a beautiful, fantastic pub! Popped in with some friends after touring the Highgate Cemetery, I'd read in some guidebook that the Flask was reportedly haunted so to continue the theme of the day we ventured forth in search of spirits. Spoiler alert: no spirits were found, except those that come inside of a pint glass, but we couldn't be too disappointed when we found ourselves in such a lovely place. It being mid-afternoon on a weekday, the pub was about half-full of groups such as ours after a sit-down and a pint and maybe a bite. The space is a bit of a warren of rooms, tiny hallways, little stairs, and low ceilings, but that just made it cozier and more inviting. I could have stayed there for hours, hunched over a pint and waiting for the ghost to make her appearance. However, I was feeling a bit under the weather so I decided to forego beer and went after a cuppa, although my friends sampled the boozy wares. The beer selection was fairly standard. The food menu was more extensive, lots of pub grub but also some fancier options. I was after a light bite so ordered some smoked salmon, which came with toasts, rocket, and creme fraiche, and a decent portion, very tasty. My friend liked the sausages he ordered as well. The Flask has a great beer garden outside for days when it isn't bitterly cold outside, but the pub serves just as well for the chilly grey days. Curl up inside with a pint and a plate of snacks and maybe the ghost will join you for a tipple. read more

Came here on a Saturday afternoon and easily found seats in their lovely courtyard. There was a good number of people here but it wasn't overly crowded. They have a nice selection of beers, some on cask. The food was delicious and the service was good. Would definitely come back again while visiting London. read more

I visited The Flask on a miserable rainy day, the garden was deserted and everyone snuggled into the pub which is made up of lots of small areas, so you never quite get a feel for quite how big it is. You also completely forget that you are actually still in London - it feels a lot more than a remote country pub. Actually, it is quite remote if you don't live locally. The walk from Highgate station is long and uphill all the way ... Still, well worth the effort, this pub is worth it. I remember stopping by here regularly years ago when it was still possible to rent a flat in Highgate - after a visit to the famous cemetery or back from a long walk around Hampstead Heath and back. The food menu is a tempting selection of comfort food. Good selection of beers and wine, too - what's not to love! Well, table service was a bit slow but if you're in the company of good friends this doesn't spoil the experience too much. read more

I have a confession to make. I have long said that this is may favorite pub in Highgate. I call it my local even though you have to walk past a total of four pubs to get to it. The place has just about everything you want from a pub, and I don't just mean horrendous Korsakkov's inducing levels of beer. There are warm helpful staff, a good tasty, if not a little heavy seasonal menu (try the duck confit, double nomnom), a labyrinthine set of wood paneled rooms, a fire, a wonderful beer garden (thats eternally packed) and the Heath a few mins walk away. Everything one would need come rain or shine. If you walk there from Highgate the pub hides round the corner facing Hampstead, urging you to stop as you make your way to the Heath playground, it almost always wins. It's a place where I always take friends keen to be impressed, drank the night away with the local Hash House Harriers chapter (def' no running after that!) and taken refuge from the cold snow by the warm fire. You, my old friend, how can I not give you 5 stars. read more

I've just moved to Highgate and my husband took me out on our first night here to The Flask. We intended to get only a drink before dinner elsewhere but found it cozy, comfortable, accommodating, and with what looked like a great menu so we stayed for dinner too. It was in fact very good food. We had mains only but the starters looked really good. I had the apricot stuffed pork and my husband the steak. We enjoyed are evening there with good service and warm atmosphere. I also, with no warning of how busy the pubs are around here for Sunday roasts, ended up at the Flask again only a few days later after finding other places too busy. Not that the Flask wasn't busy but we managed (four of us) to find a space outside under a heat lamp with the promise of a table inside if one were to open up. We enjoyed a drink outside and then were moved inside for our meal. The roast was delicious (I had the lamb). The vegetables and Yorkshire pudding were perfect - not overcooked. The meat was maybe a bit tough but good flavor. Again, another enjoyable meal there. read more

The Flask since bing taken over by Fullers finally lives up to it's billing. This has been a very popular pub as long back as I can remember but was ruined by pitiful staff - you know the ones - They look trendy but wouldn't understand bar service/ customer service if it came up and slapped them. Since Fullers took over this beuatiful pub has become a firm favorite. Hardly a week passes when I'm not in here having a few drinks and a chat in one of the numerous snugs having a drink and chat or sampling their amazing food. The service is now top notch, the staff are friendly and fast. This isn't just a summer pub anymore, in fact I now prefer it in the winter! Good work Fullers! Good work Flask staff. Country pub in London? HUH?! As a local highgate dweller, this is, i think my favorite city pub. Its situated 100m away from highgate high street, heading down towards hampstead. The pub is a Fullers pub, but it must be the flag ship venue. There is a lovely Beer garden, which i would heavily recommend on a nice sunny day for a laid back session. For the colder (more common) wintery days/nights, there is a period interior which is modern and very nice to spend a couple of hours chatting and eating away. The food is very nice, there is a varied weekly menu, lunches are fantastic, i would highly recommend a steak sandwich (comes with chips) for the weekend definitely go for the roast. The prices are around restaurant prices, but the quality of the food is high enough to warrant the prices. Now all i need to do is find a new girlfriend who will let me take her to places that she wont like, but i can eat my food and hers, then write a review =) I would definitely recommend this place! read more

Unimpressed. Ate at The Flask the afternoon of Easter Monday. In need of some proper pub grub we were all disappointed. It was busy but we managed to get a table outside and enjoyed the nice setting but the food was pretty terrible. Two of my group ordered sausage and mash which came served with mash potato that reminded us of school dinners and not in a good way, a tiny serving of kale and two dried sausages. I ordered fish and chips which was awful. The chips were just warm and the fish was undercooked, soggy and wet. Yuk. We didn't stick around. Not a cheap pub lunch with each dish £11-13. read more

This is one of those pubs I prefer in the winter. Sure, it has a big beer garden (which is lit up nice and cozy in the evening), but this pub stands apart from others indoors. It is almost a maze of different rooms, seating, multiple bars... There are big open rooms perfect for a group, of small narrow rooms for a quiet intimate chat. Due to the location, it's not exactly a cheap pub, but it's worth it for the setting. Plus there are ghosts! read more

One hungover afternoon in London I was in search of something dank and cozy for my belly. After scouring Yelp for about 20 minutes I stumbled upon The Flask. I read all of the reviews and decided that this was the place I needed to be. I put on a comfy sweater, shot my friend a text and told him to meet me there. Best decision of the day even though it was a bit of a hike for me to get there. This is such a quaint and cozy little country-style pub and I loved everything about it! The patrons here were mostly older gentleman having a few pints. It was quite without any music, but just a gentle hum of conversation, which I really enjoyed. I have to admit, I did choose this place based on their burger review and it did not disappoint. This was a slammin' burger - I could only eat half of it, that's how huge this thing was. My only complaint was that I asked for it medium and it came out medium well (but I won't hold it against them). Lots of beers by the bottle (even Brooklyn Lager, which I was amused by), cask beers and my good and trusty hangover cure, Bulmers (or Magners as we call is in The States). Awesome spot. This is an ideal place to visit during the long English summer days, where you can side outside, take in the rare sunshine and sit for hours, fueled with good conversation, good wine and good food. The inside is very cosy and warm, but a bit too dark. I think it is the outside where one would want be sat anyway. Set in the leafy area of High Gate, North London, you seem to pleasantly loose track of time and unwind. The last time I came here, my friend at I arrived at around 3 p.m and as the weather was so glorious that summer day, we didn't end up leaving until 9! We started with a couple glasses of white wine, decided we were hungry so ordered mains of fish and chips with mushy peas and Maris Piper chips and a meaty steak dish, followed by sharing a sticky toffee pudding with ice-cream. A few more hours down the line, washed down with a few more glasses of wine, we found that we were feeling peckish, again. So we ordered some pate and toast, though I was a little sad when they said they had run out of my favourite white-bait. Needless to say, we both went home feeling well fed and jolly. read more

One of the most beautiful pubs in London. They seated us in the committee room, with a view of the outdoor seating area; we had it to ourselves most of the time. They also didn't put much pressure on us even though one of the people in our party was 45 minutes late and the other was a no-show. The lamb roast was good though not great. read more

This pub is really best in summer because of its enormous beer garden and leafy hilltop location in Highgate village. On sunny, or even vaguely warm days, the garden gets packed with youngish locals out celebrating the sun. The bar is pretty well stocked although you'll be better served at the slightly posher wine and mixer drinks end of the scale. The food is also pretty good but to be honest, to enjoy the Flask you don't need much more than a pint, some good weather and a bunch of friends. read more

Went for lunch on a Saturday with 4 adults and 2 children. Very busy and certainly somewhere to book in advance. Small selection on menu but I enjoy not having 20 dishes to choose from so this is a positive for me. Food was excellent with an excellent range of beers and ales. Service was also fantastic. My only complaint is that it's probably not a place to take children. Overall though, very enjoyable lunch. read more

I had lunch at the Flask last Sunday. Apart from their usual Sunday roast menu they offered a fish barbeque outside. It was lovely, with a nice couscous salad on the side. Unfortunately, about six hours later, I ended up with the most horrendous food poisoning. I called the pub a few days later and spoke to the manager. He didn't seem too bothered. He never took my name, he didn't ask what time I was there nor what I had eaten. He was abrupt and just wanted to get off the phone. It's a nice pub and I only called them to prevent other people getting ill like I did. It's pretty bad business to not respond to a food poisoning complaint. Actually getting the food posioning didn't put me off the pub - mistakes can happen. What did put me off was his unprofessional attitude. He didn't give me any confidence that my complaint would be acted upon or would even be passed on to the kitchen. Don't think I'll be going there again. read more

Sometimes you find a pub with a great selection of craft and independent beers, but in not so great a setting. Sometimes you find a pub with a cosy fire, dark woods and a nice staff... but terrible beers. Tonight we discovered everything you could wish for including the craft beers, warm open fires, friendly staff,and good food. Came here the other day hoping to have a nice lunch, but walked out after waiting in the bar trying to order. There was a large queue with only two people helping at a colossally slow pace. The final nail in the coffin was a massive dog that kept barking and being shushed by its owner. The dog's barks were so loud and horrendous. Nobody said anything to the owner. I was hoping someone that worked there would ask her to leave; there shouldn't be barking dogs in pubs. Walked out before we could even order. There's no way I'm going to sit and listen to a dog barking on a perfectly sunny afternoon. read more

One and only time I got thrown out of a pub for allegedly causing damage. There was no damage. A speaker had been unplugged. But rather than asking us to rectify this staff refused to serve people who had only just walked in (and in fact later on people who arrived after the rest of the party had left), and couldn't have anything to do with this at all. There was a lot of aggressive shouting about damage that wasn't there and amazingly the suggestion that somehow the speaker system dated back to the sixteenth century and had been broken by unplugging it. read more
