I give this place a 5 star rating for 3 reasons. The food is always delicious. The service is friendly. The cost is fitting for what you are ordering. This is a hole in the wall (could use some work on the restrooms) that turns into a lounge at night. It looks like your typical dive bar. The last time I ordered the redfish and this time I ordered the catfish poboy. Perfectly fried and the bread does not get soggy. We also ordered the crab balls and oh my goodness they were heaven. I'm a strong advocate of hole-in-the-wall restaurants. The Fish Place, however, isn't one of those places I'd tell anyone who would listen to check out. It's not the service. The waitress did her job. It's not the venue, which is a VFW hall, a honky tonk, and your uncle's rumpus room rolled into one. If you ask me, that's really cool. It's not the environment. Quintessential small town Texas through and through. My major disappointment? The grilled pork chop platter with red beans and rice. I expected the dish to be like how it's prepared in Cajun Country to the East, but I was sadly mistaken. The pork chop could've used some seasoning, and the red beans and rice was equally devoid of flavor. Not even hot sauce could provide some saving grace. Is it possible for me to return, try something new, and update this review with a more positive spin? Only time will tell. read more

This seems to be a poopin' local watering hole. Someone recommended their food and drinks. I arrived here one day after the freak-weather in Texas with my five year old for dinner. I can only imagine what my face looked like upon opening the door. This is like a eatery/hole in the wall bar in the daytime, and a night club in the evening. All of the furniture and decor are old/used. Lots of tears in the seating. There seems to be three different bar spaces. No running water at the time (which should have been my cue to leave.) The waitress was very kind but she was having to wear many hats as they were understaffed. The food was aight- everything was fried. The food here was amazing, and the portions were big (which I like). The crab was seasoned really well & the baked potato was awesome. They make their own Bloody Mary mix and it was so good. I really enjoyed the thinner roux in the gumbo. All in all the food and drinks were on point the service was a slow it seems like they need more servers on the floor. With a huge menu, it's hard to decide what to eat here, but one you do decide you can count on the food being hot and fresh. And good. Remember, this isn't a fancy schmancy place--it's meant to be a fast food fish joint. And for that consideration, it's a great place to eat. We ordered a variety of dishes and tried both grilled and fried foods. The catfish is a little bland but fried, it tastes pretty good. The etouffe was tasty and full of flavor. The blackened redfish was really good. My daughter loves the fried okra and the crab balls. I love the boudin balls. We have ordered takout and delivery through door dash and the food is always packaged nicely and in quality containers that we keep afterward for a few uses. We highly recommend takeout if you aren't wanting to sit in the restaurant. For a hole in the wall fish place, this Fish Place is a great option when your whole family wants to eat and you don't know where to go because they have fish and shrimp and fried and grilled and chopped steak and hamburgers and all sorts of non-fish things to choose from too. I highly recommend trying them. To each their own, but I think you'll like it well enough to go back again like we have several times. The crab balls really alone are worth it. read more

Saw a lot of cars, heard music playing , decided to stop. Bartender was not a real bartender. I ordered a rum punch. She poured a half ounce of coconut rum in a 24 oz cup that she then filled with ice, cola, and tonic water. My rum punch was brown in color and tasted horrible. I didn't make a fuss. The line was long as the bartender was taking orders from what I deduct were her favorites as they cut the line and just shouted out their orders and she complied. Never mind the people who are patiently waiting in line. The owner right behind her not doing a thing about this. I ordered boiled shrimp. Thinking who can mess up boiled shrimp. Well they can. It took forever and it smelled and tasted like old mop water. I can go on about the restrooms, but if you are reading this, you can just imagine. This place needs to be shut down permanently. After a long day of working on my car, this was a nice little place to chill. Once entering the door, your seating selection is open. They have two bars, a couple of tables, a few booths, dance floor and even an arcade for the gamers. I sat at the bar to get better viewing of the whole place. I didn't plan on eating much til I seen the menu and the steak was calling my name!!!! For 16.99 my steak dinner came with a salad, loaded baked potato, grilled shrimp, and a buttery large piece of toast. Of course I had a to-go box.. And my waiter was on point. Before I could ask, she already kinda new what I wanted. She even let me taste test the margaritas. (Gator bite is the biz) and this was a Thursday night. Food poisoning. I decided to give this place a try; it always smells good when I drive by. I ordered the blackened chicken and blackened shrimp with a side of linguini with cream sauce and vegetables. I also ordered cheesecake. Visited the Fish Place today after church. When we entered, we were directed to seat ourselves, and my fiance & I chose a booth. No other customers were in the place, but it was early (before noon). TVs were tuned to sports channels (i.e., ESPN) & were playing softly or were muted. Our server arrived almost immediately, welcomed us, took our drink orders (Arnold Palmer & sweet tea) & brought chips & salsa. The chips didn't taste very fresh, but the salsa was good--not too hot but had a slight "bite". After we studied the menu, I ordered the fried catfish & shrimp platter (5 catfish fillets, 5 shrimp, corn on the cob & red beans & rice), & my fiance ordered the seafood platter. Each came with 2 sides & toasted bread. Our platters arrived in about 5 minutes...really quickly and very hot! Shrimp was fried really hard (see pic) but didn't have any taste. The fried catfish was well seasoned. I noticed that the fish was seasoned before it was coated in batter, which made for a great taste. My fiance ate everything on his plate (fried fish, oysters, shrimp, crab ball, fried jalapeno, fried okra, 3 huge hush puppies). I couldn't finish mine so I ordered a to-go box. Some friends and I came from out of town and ordered on Uber eats from this restaurant. The wait was long like 60 mins no big deal my friends got their order and i ordered for my friend and her daughter when the Uber driver came I only got 1 of the 3 items I ordered I tried to flag down the Uber driver couldn't get a hold of him so I call to the restaurant mind you I'm pissed I just spent 50 something dollars and paid for the delivery that's the point of Uber eats right? I was tired I don't drive well at night I don't live in this area and it was like 20 mins away so i call and some guy answers I told him I just ordered and I didn't receive the whole order rudely he replies "what did you order" at this point I'm like Wtf I tell him can he look up the order by my name he is still very rude about the whole ordeal so unprofessional I then ask to speak with the manager he says he is I'm like really he told me to not cuss at him I told him I was Coming to the restaurant he mentions something about cops being there lol so I got my friend on the phone with him I was more mad at the fact of how he handled this. Also he forgot to give the food that was missing to the Uber driver it wasn't the drivers fault he mentioned that as well so yes I was pissed and cussing I have every right to but as a owner or manager you have no right to get rude back that's not how customer service works so after he gets off the phone with my friend she tells me he was going to offer us free shit at that point I don't care it wasn't my concern at all he also tells her to make sure I don't go with her because I was rude lol oh yes I went with her because she was intoxicated so I had to drive when we got there the security depends I put on a mask with the covid stuff and yes I understand that but the whole reason besides me not knowing the area and it being far was so I could avoid contact with people I went got the food and he offers deserts or a drink I declined and told him it wasn't about getting free anything It's about how he as a manager owner of an establishment handled the whole situation. I highly suggest no one orders from here this asshole could at least gave me a refund and he never apologized either that's the first thing he should of did instead of arguing with me and getting mad and defensive back that's not how you handle customers it was his mistake and I had to drive out of my way with nothing but to be offered free desserts the food was nasty and salty wasn't even worth the money I spent which I am getting refunded by my bank. First of all, the place looks like The Boar's Nest from The Dukes of Hazzard TV show. Plus the neighborhood looks a little sketchy. I was not expecting much from this place. When we walked inside I really couldn't tell if the place was a restaurant, a bar, a dance club, a fish market, or some guy's man cave. It seemed kind of scattered. This place is not fancy but some locals swear by it. I found the batter for the fish, shrimp and mushrooms bland without seasoning. (Yes all the same batter so if you have a seafood allergy, beware!) I hear the burgers are amazing. The French fries were just okay. I'm a bit of a fried potato snob but our other guests were okay with everything. The portion size is plentiful. We were a table of 8 and it literally took an hour to get food with a total of only another 8 people in the joint. Not sure what the issue was. We waited patiently and had 2 rounds of adult beverages. The wait staff was friendly enough but not at all that deep southern charm one would expect in Texas. I'm being nice by not giving it "dive" status out of the respect for the locals who dig this joint. Next time, if there is one, we will try the burgers. We were not served until almost 40 min after arriving and we were forgotten about until one of our party went up to the bar for service. We were served food with itt utensils and it condiments and the drinks were super slow to come... so slow that by the time they came we were charged full price which I have to problem with had we not arrived an hour before the end of happy hour. What a disappointment especially since we frequent here so often. Although the girl did mention several times that she was new and didn't know very much it still not okay for service and the damn restaurant was empty so again 1 star at it best... get new staff or train better!! Had the all-you-can-eat catfish. It was my first time to eat there in 11 years. Most places that have all-you-can-eat catfish fry a bunch of it and it sits under a heat lamp. Not this place. The fish was prepared fresh, and we were told that if we wanted more to let them know before we were out so they could make more. The fish was cooked perfect-- nice and firm but still juicy. I don't normally write reviews but I have to say this place deserves one. They have done an awesome job at their remodeling, the new addition is a big step up. There is a new bar and tv's which help the atmosphere. We dined in on Saturday 6/6 and had Kieri as our server. She has been our server before and is very friendly and efficient even taking time to tell us about specials during the week. I had crawfish (even at the price of $7.99 was very satisfied since the crawfish were sizable) peel and eat boiled shrimp and the stuffed avacado appetizer is amazing !!!
