In reality, the castle is a complex of buildings dating to 1070. It's actually more akin to a small city. We were here in October so we missed the crowds mentioned in several reviews. Large portions of the complex are open to the public, including the royal apartments, St George's chapel, etc. The guards and docents were all most helpful and willing to explain what you were seeing. If your time is limited, this is one of London's most impressive sites and should be one of your top priorities.

Admission to the castle may seem a little stiff at 32 pounds but given the fact that we were there for three hours to really get it all in I guess it was worth it. The dollhouse exhibit which was amazing examples of English model-making and craftsmanship and the state apartments will comprise most of the tour. Warning: you are not allowed to take any pictures or videos inside of the castle.

They have a great Panto on here each year and have had some very good plays and big bands etc. They often have 2 for 1 offers and early booking offers if you look at their website. On the ground floor there is a pod with virtual reality masks and wands where the public can navigate their way around 29 unexplained jpegs of old Slough buildings strangely positioned in the virtual air. On the middle floor there is information about the highly acclaimed astronomer Herschel but no real landmarks to visit despite there being parks, schools and other things named after him around the town. A lot of information about 3 huge cinemas which are no longer standing. Nothing about Pinewood or Slough Industrial Estate, but quite a lot of reference books on shelves.

A trip to the UK wouldn't be complete without eating as much Fish & Chips as you can so that what I had to order here. They use Haddock which was quite tasty (I'm used to Cod). They use Haddock staff made sure I added vinegar which really took things to the next level. I also learned that people love Gin so I had to also get a Gin and Tonic. I really liked this place. When we arrived, we were sat on the patio, but not near the views despite being the only ones out there. We quickly ordered drinks, and then food not long after. From the time we were sat, to when our food finally came out, it had been over an hour. I know we had a larger group, but the waitress never came back to check on our drink or offer any insight on the wait. We had to seek it out ourselves. We were also being tormented by wasps, one of which we caught in a cup to stop it from bothering us. We saw people seated after us get their food before us. We even saw a couple sit down, wait for ages for service, and leave before ever ordering drinks. Once the food finally came, it was bland. My fish and chips were flavorless. Others at the table complained of food being either boiling hot or lukewarm. The little chocolate mint they bring you with the check was the best part. Someone in our group asked for an extra mint on the way out and they initially told her no. Overall, terrible experience. Made us late to the next thing on our itinerary and we didn't even enjoy the food.
