Windsor Royal Station is a nice little shopping mall located in the heart of Windsor, right across…read morethe way from Windsor Castle. It serves as a shopping mall and a train station. You'll find shops for apparel and accessories, fragrance, jewelry, and even cigars. There's also a number of eateries, coffee shops, and a pretty little milk tea/boba cafe. Whether you just want to grab and go or sit down and relax, there's something for everyone. We browsed around for a bit, but mostly went there to check out the pretty milk tea shop which was surprisingly tasty! The decor was lovely as well and I can still taste that wonderful cheese tea topping. Overall, it's a nice, quick stop while in Windsor. They do close quite early at 6pm (except on Sundays, they close at 5pm), so plan accordingly.

Now I'm not sure if Windsor Royal Station is considered to be where the solitary train track is and…read morethe ticket window, or if it's the whole building that consists of shops, several restaurants and cafes and even an art gallery. I'll assume that it's the whole thing. The train side of the whole thing is, as I said, just one track. The train goes into the nearby town/city of Slough. And I'm pretty sure that is the only place that it goes. From there you change trains for other destinations such as London in one direction and Reading in another. There is also another train station that is about a 10-15 minute walk from this one though and I caught that train the other day to Twickenham (London) to see the rugby. Overall, it's a nice old-y world-y comfortable feeling that the place gives you. You can shop at the outdoor (really indoor) market stall or have a cup of coffee or even a really good meal at one of the cafes and/or restaurants. Obviously a great place to be when its raining outside.

Well, lawks. We visited the Chiltern Open Air Museum last April and, as I assume it's still there,…read moreit's about time this review got finished. So here goes. Bottom line: This is a great place for kids and families, or simply for a stroll around the many buildings very interesting buildings that are reconstructed here. The museum takes old buildings of all sorts -- agricultural, industrial, pre-war, post-war, etc. -- and rebuilds them on this one site. Walking through the streets is like stepping back in time, as you pass a toll house to find a dairy farm and then, around the corner, a prefabricated war-era bungalow with an air force hut (replete with gas mask and war-time air navigation maps!). There are activities for kids of all ages, various little stalls selling home-made this-and-that, and a (slightly pricey) little cafe for tea, cakes, and sandwiches. Highlights for us included the prefab house (with outdoor bomb shelter), toll house (where the kids learned how to knit), and the lambs and shire horse ponies. This is a gem of a museum where families can wile away a few hours in the sunshine. Certainly worth visiting if you're in the area.

A great way to spend a few hours!…read more The museum has got a strange collection of buildings that have been 'collected' from the Chiltern area. There isn't really any theme to the museum other than that - the buildings date from all kind of eras. I'm not sure of the exact amount, but I'd guess there where about 20 buildings, including farm buildings, a school house, a toilet block and a church. The museum has got a small cafe if you need to get some warming soup or a cup of tea, and gift shop selling the usual souvineers (and, rather bizarrely, a Robocop postcard) One warning - as it says on the tin - the museum is 'open air' so if you go on a cold or windy day make sure you are well wrapped up!

It's an easy walk from Pinner station. It's currently only open Friday-Sunday, but I booked in a group tour and took along 15 people. You enter through the ubiquitous gift shop, which isn't large but has a changing range of items by local artists, as well as books and other little things that I totally wanted. There are 3 rooms - an activity studio, a temporary exhibition, and a permanent exhibition. We couldn't go into the activity studio as it was being used for a half-term activity - glass painting. But there was a sign saying that on a Friday, they have an artist who uses the room to sketch and you are welcome to go in and watch and ask questions. The permanent exhibition is chronological and it was really interesting to see the variety of work that Heath Robinson did - but as ever, having a tour makes a big difference as you get a lot of context and little stories that bring it all to life. The temporary exhibition is currently on the brothers Robinson, and had a great breadth of work from the three Robinsons, including items on loan from the family, things that haven't ever been seen before. The group I brought (all over 60s) were fascinated by the whole thing. Even though I went along knowing very little about Heath Robinson, I enjoyed my visit, too. Our group tour was £5 per person, and another £30 for the steward to do the tour. Normal tickets are £6-ish.
