Staff is friendly. Atmosphere is nice. I prefer to make cut glass projects when I am there. The last several time I have gone I have found the selection of materials to be very limited and have had a difficult time finding enough pieces to make a project. I came here for an event with a big group of my music fraternity sisters and The Fire accommodated well with a private room for us in the back. They told us we could pick out what we wanted (painting pottery or melting glass together). I ended up selecting a small vase and I went to town on finding the right colors. We all really enjoyed painting out respective pieces and it was actually harder than I thought! I used a bunch of different-sized brushes so I could get the right amount of detail for certain parts of my design. There weren't very many staff members around to help if we had any questions, but I honestly can't think of any questions we might have. It's pretty straightforward: pick out your piece, pick out your paint, and go to town painting it! One of my sisters later picked up the box of all our decorated pieces, so I didn't have any more interaction with the employees there. I had a really fun experience here; there's nothing quite like relaxing with a paintbrush and hanging out with friends, even if you're no Van Gogh. Tips: Be sure to check the little swatch that shows you how the paint colors turn out after being fired up in the kiln. I wasn't observant enough, and my vase turned out a robin egg blue when I was expecting a royal blue. Also, I recommend writing your name on the bottom, just in case! read more

I am came here a few years ago with friends and we ended up making a day out if it. You can design your own necklaces, bowls, ashtrays, suncatchers, whatever you like. It is an absolute blast and a great way to spend a rainy day indoors. It lets out your inner creative god/goddess. High praise to the members that work here, they have patience like no other since most individuals who come in here need a step by step tutorial on where to find tools, and how the process works. I have been to the Fire twice. Once for my birthday, in June. We reserved a room in the back. It was a fun experience and wasn't expensive at all $50 to book the room, and that included a Memory plate that the Host/hostess gets to bring home, after an artist paints it to his or her specifications. We were also able to bring in food and drinks which was awesome! It was a great way to have a few hours of fun creative girl time. The other time I came here with my two Boys in August. They are Ages 10 and 7. Both of them enjoyed themselves and had a great time painting pottery. This time it was more expensive of course, but not any more than 3 of us going to a movie at the theatre and eating popcorn. So still affordable fun with a keepsake at the end. This is one of my new favorite memories of time spent with them. read more

This is a awesome place to paint pottery, I had a great times tonight with my friends!!! Told us what to do before you paint and then we got to paint!!!! I love doing art & crafts!!! My daughter and I went to The Fire on Friday. When we arrived we started looking at the pottery to choose a piece to paint. My daughter asked the salesperson if she could check in the back for more mugs. The salesperson went in the back and returned with a tray of mugs. A group of teenagers grabbed the mugs off of the tray as she was bringing them out. I mentioned to the salesperson that my daughter was waiting for the mugs and she replied that we'd have to wait for another order to come in. Needless to say my daughter was very disappointed and we decided to leave. The salesperson did not offer any type of apology or even ask why we were leaving. We had considered going to Oshkosh to paint at the Fire Escape but decided to keep our business local which turned out to be a poor choice. We've had positive experiences here before so that's why this time was such a disappointment. read more

This is the kind of place that makes going downtown fun and whimsical. It's a quaint craft shop where you get to make and/or decorate your own creations. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the shop itself is very comfortable and laid back. It's a place where you can have a first date and a kids party... it's really great for any purpose so long as you like using your creativity and working with your hands. I've always enjoyed coming here, and I will continue to do so for as long as I live in the area. read more

I love this place in theory, they have so many great things to do - but maybe a few more employees would be a good idea. I had a great time, except that I got glass embedded in my finger (they do NOT clean tables so it's a good idea to make sure the person before you cleaned up after themselves - shards of glass are deadly!!). There was blood was gushing all over and my friend said I looked like I was going to pass out. We were the only ones there and the employees somehow didn't notice. My friend had to show me where the bathroom was... I passed 2 employees as I was leaving a trail of blood to the bathroom and they didn't even bat an eye. It was a good thing I happened to have bandaids with me because they never even asked if I was ok, let alone offer any help. A few months later my finger is ok, but my faith in their service is still wounded. read more
