The streets are wide, flat or hilly. The houses look the same, nice 40s architecture all the way to brutalist apartment boxes with flat dirty facades & aluminum trimmed windows. Extra points for diversity. Russian, Middle East, Asian, etc. businesses Retail pretty sad here, like a suburb that time forgot. Parking pretty tight. Because I'm a photographer this area is a wonderland of quirk & intrigue.

Mellow beach town in San Francisco…read more The neighborhood of Outer Richmond in San Francisco is close to the coast with lots of bars, restaurants, coffee shops and parks. When we are in the Outer Richmond area I know we are close to the beach and Golden Gate Park! Residents who enjoy hiking are in for a treat with all the hiking trails nearby. I have yet to try the amazing restaurants along Geary and Clement Streets but that will have to wait when they are open for dining in. I have enjoyed visiting landmark places in the Outer Richmond area including: Sutro Bath ruins and Sea Rock at the Lands End Lookout. The Historic Cliff House restaurant is here too (permanently closed). There are coastal trails along the ocean. We've stopped by the Holocaust Memorial at California Palace of the Legion of Honor in Lincoln Park at the Golden Gate Park. Lots to do and places to eat in the Outer Richmond area. Review #2075

If you're wondering where all the Latinos went after gentrification hit the Mission, we are here, along with other immigrant families. So Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outer_Mission,_San_Francisco) says this neighborhood is "bounded by Geneva Avenue, Alemany Blvd and Mission Street" but I feel like the Excelsior can be included in "the Outer Mission." I consider my hood to be anything after Bernal Heights (so, for locals, anything after that one overpass near Silver). Anyway, like I was saying, there are a lot of locals here and almost no hipsters in sight. You are bound to run into a couple at Broken Record, but that's about it. Mostly you'll run into people you went to high school with at the Little Caesar's on Geneva, or see little old ladies pushing around carts with groceries or laundry. It is easy to get to any part of the City from here, but the only hassle is getting here late at night after the clubs. BART stops running at about 1am, the 26 doesn't exist anymore, and unless you wanna be on the 14 with a bunch of kids tryna earn their gang stripes and professional alcoholics for a good 45 minutes, then you're pretty much stuck taking a cab to get back here. Minus one star for that and also because the fog is almost chronic here.

With that being said, I no longer live here because it's just too expensive one and two they don't keep up with the clean up etc in the area. Mostly because it's SO expensive for just an apartment.. 2000+ for 2 bedroom apartment in this area ? No thanks.. However its much cleaner than most areas nearby now. Not too safe over here but that's with everywhere. I feel safer here than in most places. Just don't walk alone as a female because you want to actually make it home. So many people cat call and honk at you while walking through town so I just drive. I chose to visit the nearby marina , & parks to get a nice view or get your walk on. Most of the time I chose to not visit the area since it's so cold, you can't get out much and enjoy your time unless you've came in layers. It's just cold in the Bay Area periodttt lol. Point Richmond is where most of the businesses and view points are at. A bunch to do passed the ferry point tunnel. My sister used to work at the Baltic ( haunted ass place ) now i just seen it's permanently closed. How sad! So sad to see places that have been here longer probably than the owners themselves close down FOREVER ! Oh well it's life I guess. Many train tracks if you're looking for that aesthetic picture since they are running through town. Many places to take pictures if you just look around. Just beware it's always cold. There's a yacht club , marina , bars , restaurants, corner stores, banks , automotive shops, the dump lol , recycling ( metal ) centers , Annie's perennials plant shop , so many things to do and visit here. Growing up I didn't appreciate the following but now I see what makes Fremont such a great place to live: 1) community services- lots of great local services through the city 2) parks and walking trails 3) bike lanes and biking paths 4) happy people (did you see the latest survey?) 5) good variety of restaurants Overall, it's a great city to live or visit. This city is very diversified and has loads of restaurants for all taste buds. Being partial to Chinese and Indian food, I have no problem stuffing my face comes lunch time. Traffic is manageable. The roads are well maintained. Parking is seldom an issue (with some exceptions, of course, the shopping centers along Mowry can be a drag). The 2 senior centers, called Age-Well Centers, is a great resource to the elderly residents. The original one is in Lake Elizabeth and the newer one is in South Fremont, near Warm Springs Rd. I am not a senior so cannot access the services, but I have gone to both locations for lunch and liked the food loads. The meals are absolutely delicious and very affordable. And speaking of Lake Elizabeth, it is such an amazing park/recreational area, all-purpose community party central. For those who have been there you know what I am talking about. For those who have not been to Lake Elizabeth, please head over for a look, I am also certain you will love it.

Under some official City and Couty of San Francisco definitions, it is technically Laurel Heights / Jordan Park, but is that slash an either (which it grammatically should be) or an and (which is all the rage these days in naming public places even though it's not grammatically correct)? Put another way, is it like Bayview Hunters Point, two different San Francisco neighborhoods that are lumped together for what I would argue are racist reasons? Or is it like Budapest, the Hungarian city that was once the towns of Buda and Pest? And if it's like Budapest, which part of it is Laurel Heights, and which is Jordan Park? As you can tell, I don't have much to say about the neighborhood. I applied for a job at its bookstore once. It's cute. But it's also not cute, because it's the location of the crowded-parking-lot Trader Joe's, and also of my beloved Lucky Penny (RIP), which was closed almost ten years ago supposedly to build housing, but no housing exists, and I've missed out on almost ten years of Lucky Penny experiences. I actually have a painting of Laurel Heights. And I love the Muni bus yard, and I always think about how I almost lived near it. Yes, I almost lived in Laurel Heights or Lower Pac Heights. It's got more available metered parking than you think it will. The neighborhood as a whole, that is. It's fancy, it's gross. It reminds me of old ladies with walkers and driving past the Lucky Penny with my aunt in 2004 and trying to explain to her what wifi is.

Potrero Hill probably only deserves four stars relative to the rest of San Francisco; but many…read morenon-San Franciscans have never heard of Potrero Hill, or if they have, they're old-school sports fans who know that a certain Heisman Trophy-winning domestic abuser and murderer grew up in its rough hillside housing projects before becoming a sports and entertainment superstar, and those people have it only three-quarters correct, so I'm pulling the five-star trigger and laughing all the way to Connecticut Street, because there's no bank on Connecticut Street (that I'm aware of). I love its north side, which is flat. I love its east side, which boasts stunning views of the bay and Downtown San Francisco and a lot more. I love its south side; those decrepit housing projects are falling apart even faster than they used to, but help is on the way in the form of brand-new, physically attractive projects right across the street--I think; even despite their sad state of disrepair, they have better bay views than probably any other two-story housing projects anywhere in the country; plus the non-housing-project part of the south side of the hill is a pretty interesting neighborhood on its own. I love its west side, with the real crookedest street in San Francisco and the beauty of McKinley Square and mysterious buildings everywhere. I love its corner stores, its regular stores, its epic tiny library. I'm less in love with its restaurants, even though I do love me some Goat Hill Pizza and Sunflower and--yes--even Ganim's. Potrero Hill is a real hill. Try climbing even part of it. Those steep streets are worth the spectacular views from random neighborhood spots. It has everything you need. Would I live here? Of course. But I know too much about Texas Street to want to--to *really* want to.

The ferry takes you straight to Main Street, where you can walk or bike around. I might've had a celebrity encounter with Zendaya one afternoon. We made eye contact for a second even though I was in a hurry. I recommend dining in fancy restaurants, walking around Main Street, Shoreline Park, Railroad & Ferry Depot Museum, Ark Row, taking pictures at Lyford Stone Tower, grocery shopping at Woodlands Market, and taking the ferry to Angel Island. There is public parking available near the hotel. If you want to hike around for stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge and coastal views, then you have to drive or rent a car. You can also take Marin Transit to explore neighboring cities like Sausalito, San Rafael, Novato, Mill Valley, and Marin City.
