Nestled between Union Square and Nob Hill, Maiden Lane is a pedestrian-only alleyway with Parisian-inspired architecture, unique shops, and charming cafes. Stepping onto Maiden Lane feels like stepping onto a quaint European street. The brick-paved alleyway, lined with gas lamps and adorned with colorful flowers, creates a romantic and inviting atmosphere. Maiden Lane is home to unique boutiques offering one-of-a-kind finds from vintage clothing and handcrafted jewelry to homeware and art galleries. In here, you can enjoy a leisurely brunch, a quick coffee break, or a romantic dinner in a charming setting. Choose from French cafes with sidewalk seating to intimate bistros and trendy restaurants. However, the place is small so there's limited options for shopping and dining. Also, there are no public restrooms and no cars are allowed in this alleyway.

Old San Francisco was made new with the designer boutiques and slick advertising offices. What had been part of the Barbary Coast scene is evident in the narrowness of the street. The Eastern side has remnants of that history. Rather than ladies if the night hanging out of windows from the buildings now we have man and women hanging on the each other's arms as they shop for posh goods feom the likes of Gucci,Chanel, Jimmy Choo, The Real Real (?), Hermes, Fendi and so much more. When you want to dream big and have the big spend budget, stop by Maiden Lane to Shop!

Love this place Union Square is so awesome with a lot of great stores to offer, sometimes it's great for a date night restaurants such as Uncle Vito's or Tap Room and such close walking distance to.

This is probably one of the only places in union square where things are somewhat clean. High-end shopping and pretty quiet. On Wednesdays there will be food trucks (March-October) during the lunch rush. Which is pretty smart considering the location. There are a couple salons as well. So go get your hair done/nails and then get a fancy schmancy pair of shoes.

One way, narrow street with lights. Great spot to stroll around because it's near the city square. Just be careful because there are a lot of dangerous strangers in the area. Especially a lot of homeless and drug addicts. Maiden Lane is known to have some high end stores. At night you can take pretty pretty neat photos. I took my car here and wasn't bothered by anyone.

Live Japanese art gallery opening patron whatever chick chatted me up, ended up giving me her business card for some place at Maiden Lane. Oh, I see - so I'm not a potential babydaddy but a potential customer. Hey. I'm not saying she's a gold digger. But she ain't messing with no broke ninjas. (http://youtu.be/5Ns-kXeQCMk) Yeah, I went by the lane... but not to drop off any child support checks heyyooooo!

From what I've read, the project came together started in 2003 all thanks to some of the local neighbors that were tired of looking at 163 plain concrete steps to the top of the hill. They collected donations and raised money, selling tiles, which could be customized with names, dates, phrases, anything people wanted to add to make this project come to life. It took two years of raining money, and assembly, "opening" in 2005. The steps really are truly worth checking out, for being over 20 years old, they still have beautiful and vibrant color. I would have though the sun would have faded them, but i guess the color being baked in to the ceramic tiles really holds up. The design, is very stunning, going "from sea to the star", with so much detail, so much creativity. At the top of the steps, you can hike another set of steps up to an amazing 360 degree panorama of the city. Worth the extra 150 or so steps to go all the way up. If you're able bodied, I'd recommend checking this spot out. It's free, and in a residential neighborhood, so parking is also free and easy to find.

It's a little off the beaten path haha, like after walking through marina greens, you kinda go on a narrower pathway, past a yacht club, and at the edge you'll find this quirky, fun thing! It was really cool to listen to the waves through this "wave organ." I thought it was newer but had no idea it was built in 1986! The Wave Organ uses 25 PVC pipes (and stone reclaimed from an old cemetery!) to channel the Bay's waves into eerie, soothing rumbles, gurgles, sloshes and hisses. Definitely put your ears up to the pipes to hear the magic. Pro tip, wish I knew beforehand: go during high tide (that's when the "music" is apparently the best!). 10/10 recommend for a lazy walk and chill moment with the sound of the Bay!

Off the beaten path you will find this fun spot. Walk past all the yacht clubs and keep going and going. All the way at the end there is a beautiful interactive art installation perfect for kids or adults that never grew up. Tile work and pipes that go into the ocean and make ocean sounds. Press your ear up against the pipes and take a listen. A couple people were fishing nearby but the whole place you can likely have all to yourself. Not all that many people will go take a few extra steps. Perhaps bring a picnic? Benches built into the walls... Maybe not growing up is ok. Taking life too seriously is perhaps overrated.
