Burger Slider

Good size TV's and an ample amount of them. Atmosphere is pretty good but something still feels a little lacking. Would like to see them crank the volume a little bit more for major games. The service is adequate. One of the bartenders was great but some of the others were so/so. Food was surprisingly good. I wasn't very hungry but ended up wolfing down the Happy Hour Mac and Cheese and Slider. I would probably come more often if they had some $3 beers or it was a little more convenient to get to, but the beer prices for what they had were pretty reasonable.

Did I do something wrong?

It's very hit or miss here. Sometimes the food is decent and the service is lacking, and other times the food misses the mark while the service is great--but it has never really been consistent. There also seems to be a lack of professionalism at times, which shows in the overall experience and makes it hard to take the service standard seriously. With staff eating and drinking at the bar with guests. Sometimes before their shift but always at the bar drinking. The photo is from my to-go veggie wrap... which honestly just adds to the confusion, because I wasn't expecting this level of inconsistency for a simple order. At this point, it's more of a gamble than a reliable spot.

Good service on a busy sports morning watching Portland Thorns. Ordered a breakfast burrito to share with my partner. Was expecting a little bigger size but still decent sized. Tasty and well seasoned. Definitely a lively bar to watch sports in. Would definitely come back.

Was visiting back Portland and a friend took us there - great dinner , good beer , and nice cocktails. Great ambiance for hanging out with friends and a nice safe neighborhood (in the downtown!) Service was great.

The happy hour is amazing. Everything I have tried on the menu was awesome. Steak bites, the brussel sprouts, Mac and cheese and French onion soup are some of my favorites!!

I'm from Cali and I was visiting Portland for the weekend and came across this spot for some Thursday night football and even on a busy night Raven was the best!!!!! Food was delicious and she even offered to make me any drink I want. I had the best experience here! Thanks so much!

Ask the Community - The Fields Bar & Grill

Does this location have NFL Sunday Ticket?

Absolutely!

Are there tv's for the outside seating?

*Update* Jim and Jan installed 4 or 5 large TV's for outdoor seating 👍

Is this a dog friendly bar? We are going to be in town this weekend.

They have outside seating available and your dog would be allowed outside, sitting with you. I saw a lady sitting outside with her dog a few weeks back.

Is there decent parking nearby? I noticed there are no smartparks in the area. SADFACE

There plenty of street parking and the street car comes right by. I honestly havent seen any parking structures with in a few blocks of the place.

I started with a tall double Captain and Diet Coke. It was a heavy pour. Two thumbs up. Great way to begin the evening right. I can see this place packed on a game day. There are standing bar areas in between the actual bar and booths around the perimeter. For my dinner, I ordered some appetizers as I wasn't very hungry - Sliders and chicken tenders with an upgrade to garlic parmesan fries. Slider buns were crispy from the griddle. Little Hawaiian buns. The burger sauce kind of tasted like thousand island. Wasn't my favorite but I am not a big fan of anything other than ranch or ketchup. The chicken tenders were a tad dry but I dipped them in sauce and they were fine. Five came to an order. All of the sauces were all good. My Waiter was Brian who was also the bartender. He checked in on me a couple of times. He poured one heck of a strong drink. I was happy as a clam. This is my kind of place. Enjoyed it so much and the convenience of the location that I returned the following evening and ordered the same thing. I was helped by Christie. She was just as professional, attentive and cordial as Brian. I would most definitely recommend this restaurant.

If we're back in Portland, we'd definitely come back!

They have stadium seats and big projection screens and I was impressed they figured out how to stream it while it was showing live. I think TV watch parties are a missed opportunity for sports bars to offer vs only showing sports. The drink menu has a lot of options and good HH prices. $6 house wine, $10 pre-mix cocktails, $6 smoked wings. There were other choices but those are what I remember. The smoked wings were better than I thought they'd be. They were perfectly cooked, fall off the bone tender with a bit of flash fried crisp. The Smokey flavor is subtle. You can get them tossed in Buffalo or BBQ sauce. Their ranch dressing also tasted really good! The smash cheeseburger was served with perfectly crispy long skinny fries. The burger was also good, sauced up with like a 1000 island dressing, pickles, fried onions and shredded lettuce. Their birria queso tacos were loaded with meat, cheese, cilantro and cotija. These were also delicious! Service was good. You can order at the bar or from a server who was making the rounds checking on everyone. Plenty of room to bring a group!

I talked it up so much that I couldn't wait for him to experience it. Unfortunately, our visit this past Sunday was a mixed bag, and I left disappointed. We arrived around 8:30 a.m. in heavy rain, and the restaurant was packed. I completely understand that a popular breakfast spot gets busy, and we had no problem waiting. But the way the waitlist was handled made an already uncomfortable situation unnecessarily frustrating. Guests sign themselves in with their name and party size, then wait outside to be called. There were at least 15 people standing in the rain. We were specifically asked not to crowd the entrance, so everyone was spread out. Yet when the young woman managing the list came out, she called names so quietly that it was almost a whisper. Between the rain, traffic and people talking, it was difficult to hear her. We noticed other guests missing their names, too. When we went up to check our status, she told us she'd already called us, but her attitude was curt and unwelcoming. There was no attempt to understand why we hadn't heard her. I don't expect special treatment, and I know she was juggling hosting and clearing tables, but basic courtesy shouldn't disappear when a restaurant gets busy. People are standing out in the cold, getting soaked, because they want to eat at your restaurant. That deserves a little patience and appreciation. Once we were seated, things got much better thanks to our server. I wish I'd gotten her name! She was wearing a purple blouse and was friendly, attentive and genuinely pleasant throughout our meal. She made us feel welcome, and I hope management recognizes her for that. We also briefly asked a male server a question, and his response came across as sharp and rude. He seemed irritated and overwhelmed, so we were relieved that he wasn't our assigned server. As for the food, there were some real highlights. The Spanish coffees were AMAZING again. They are still among the best I've had anywhere. The breakfast potatoes were outstanding, too: rich garlic flavor, onions throughout, and so delicious that I'm determined to figure out how to make them at home. My ham steak was another winner. Thick, juicy and packed with flavor, it may honestly be the best ham steak I've ever had. Gravy clearly knows how to make some memorable breakfast dishes. Unfortunately, the grilled pork chops were extremely dry, even though the portions were generous. My husband was disappointed, especially after hearing me rave about my first visit. We also ordered the vegetable gravy; it tasted good but arrived barely warm. The pure maple syrup wasn't to my taste, either. I appreciate that they offer the real thing, but I didn't care for that particular flavor on my pancake and switched to regular syrup. That's purely personal preference, not a knock on the quality. What really brought this visit down to three stars was the experience before we sat down. A wait in bad weather is one thing; feeling dismissed when you simply couldn't hear your name is another. For a restaurant in rainy Portland, I'd love to see a better system: text notifications, clearer and louder name-calling, or at the very least a kinder response when guests check in. I've worked in hospitality, and I know how demanding a slammed breakfast service can be. I'm not asking anyone to be cheerful every second or for every dish to be perfect. But professionalism, patience and a welcoming attitude still matter, especially at the front door. We'll give Gravy another try. There is genuinely excellent food here, and our server in the purple blouse was terrific. I just hope our next visit feels more like the first one, so my husband can see why I was so excited to bring him. Great food gets people through the door. Good hospitality makes them want to return.
