Found this place about three years ago when we got our 4 girls from them. It is so good to find a place close to get the products we need to keep the girls happy. Will get 4 more this year to go with the other girls. Have to build a bigger coop for them all. They have Plymouth Blues chicks there now that we are going to get. This store has feed for many animals along with birds, chickens, ducks, turkeys, rabbits and many other things. I buy my dogfood there as it is high quality and priced right. The people there are very knowledgable about everything they sell. Love this place. read more

Amazing experience so close to the city. For anyone with exotic livestock or affinity for birds of all types this is the place. Stepping through the door is akin to stepping into an old country store back in the 70's somewhere in mid Nebraska. The old wooden building smells of farm feed and supplies and you quickly find yourself sifting through endless bags of various bird feed. Wind your way around to the back room where you can get your hands on chickens, pigeons, rabbits, ducks, turkeys and cockatoo's. I went to The Feed Store for the first time last Saturday morning. We were looking for straw for our garden. I was amazed by this place. Not only could you get bales half or whole of straw and hay for $11 but the amount of gardening items for half what you would pay at places like Menards or Home Depot. They have all you would need for your own urban farm. Not to mention birds galore, chickens and the pet variety. The people are knowledgeable and very helpful. I am a born and bred apartment dwelling Chicagoian who moved to the burbs 5 years ago. It is the first time in my life I've had a back yard and been able to grow a ever expanding garden. Thanks to finding straw at The Feed Store, weeding will be less and the water bill smaller. The Feed Store is now my go to place for half of my gardening supplies. read more

I visited today to buy some Neatsfoot Oil and noticed instantly that there has been a lot of cleaning and organizing done in the store. It feels much more spacious, especially the area by the horse care items. Keep up the great work! read more

Now thats how you do business! They care about animals and it shows!! A+++ I was worried at first because the man working outside seen me and didnt attend to me minutes before they opened but there were 2 other people inside that opened promptly at 9am and that guy that I thought as frumpy took great care of my concerns and thanks to him for the free samples. They even are in touch with the fact that feeding your dog a healthy food without fillers can be kind of expensive so they have a program that the 13th bag of food is free 2 thumbs up!! read more

I worked at the feed store for several years back in the late 80's and early 90's. It is an awesome place to work and the owners are extremely generous. They carry products for all types of animals and have a great message board to post for sale items. It is a great place to visit and pick up some unique pet items. I have since moved out to Indiana but every spring I come back to pick up some chicks and ducks for my little 3 1/2 acre farm. They have a great selection throughout the year of chicks, ducks, geese, pheasant, quail, rabbits, etc. I LOVE THE FEED STORE! read more

I recently moved out of state and I miss The Feed Store. When I come back I stock pile my supplies for my dogs, fish, and birds. I have had relatives and friends bring supplies and food with them when visiting. I have shopped in a dozen other feed stores close to where I live now and none come close to the quality of the product and most importantly the quality of knowledge of the product. The prices are very reasonable. Especially because I know it's the right stuff. There is also plenty of variety. I miss The feed Store. read more

We got some chickens from here- the baby chicks were nice, and the adult roo also very nice, but the roo was infested with chicken mites which we unknowingly brought home and infested all the rest of our chickens and our cats and parrot and guinea pigs (All *indoor* animals that wouldn't be exposed to parasites otherwise). It took our vet a while to figure out the specie and hundreds in treatments to eradicate the infestation. I won't risk going back there again! read more

I could not wait to get chickens and after a year of research I could not wait another day. A few days after Christmas I started looking for chickens, all the places that usually sell them, but they do not carry them until the warmer months so we stopped at a place my boyfriend heard of many years ago and, YAY, they were still there! The Feed Store was the only place to have baby chicks (that markets well because I was even looking for hatcheries but no luck) and they were so adorable. These chicks were my first and we got 4 of them. I have had them for 8 weeks now and they are great, the only bad thing is that 3 out of the 4 are roosters and we got them for laying eggs SO the roosters have to go. So much for 90% sexing accuracy! Though the employees were nice, they were NOT knowledgeable about were the chickens came from, if they had gotten any shots for different types of diseases BUT our chicks were all bright eyed and active , 2 had dirty vents but we took care of that, and no one had mites or flees. The regular feed they sell is non-medicated (different from organic) but I can't find anything like that around me without spending a ton of money. Their food and water trays are about the same in price or a little cheaper than other stores. read more

I called on the telephone for a quick question about what product they sell & the price; and unfortunately the customer service was really bad and a major turn-off. I absolutely will not shop in establishments that do not provide quality customer service. The man was abrupt, and acted as if I was troubling him with the phone call at all! I will shop online and other feed stores because of poor service, even though this one would be closer to me. read more

I just want to say this is the best feed store in this area. They are outstanding in what they do and have been for many many years. For those who rated it 1 star, they have no idea what they are talking about and are totally wrong. I travel a long way to get there and have always been treated great and taking care of in a timely manner. if you expect them to spend time with you on the phone and are too lazy to go in there, then that's your fault. They move a lot of seed and feed and have about everything you need for your critters. They don't have time to tell you every price of every bag of seed in the place and have you hang up and go somewhere else, wasting there time when there are paying customers waiting to pay cash and be taken care of. They are very very busy and wouldn't be if they were not great as they are. I love this place and all of the birds and critters in the back room are always well cared for, with clean cages and plenty of water and food. If you expect the back room to be like Petsmart you got another thing coming. They have a lot of birds and critters you won't find anywhere else, and it's always a surprise to see what's in the back room, and Yes it won't be spotless and smell like perfume because all birds and critters are going to make some messes. They do their very best to keep it as clean as possible. Their main priority is to the health of the livestock, clean cages plenty of food and water, etc.I also want to mention they have the best prices I have found anywhere. read more

Tiny aisles, dirty, dark, cramped. They basically open large bags of products, and an employee scoops out what you want for you. They don't have intact bags out in the store, an employee has to get one for you from the back if thats what you want. They have great variety, you can choose from a great selection of feed, however, maybe not the place to purchase organic chicken feed, unless you purchase a sealed bag. The chicken feed was infested. Webs, worms, whatever was/is in there left a mess. I suppose it wasn't used often, the other products I glanced at didn't seem to have the same problem. I mentioned the bugs to the cashier, her reply was "It's organic and has no pesticides. The bugs are always in there and hatch when its warm. You can put it in your freezer." 1. A 50 lb bag won't fit in my freezer, 2. I've never had ANY bugs in ANY of my organic feed. Perhaps they are getting in through the giant opening in the bag. And, food grade Diatomaceous Earth could've been dusted on top to keep them out, since it is beneficial to animals for consumption as well. My issue isn't with scooping out various amounts of product, I think that is a good idea, but the food, in my opinion, should be in bins with lids, similar to the way health food stores sell bulk. I won't be going back. Not to say other people don't like this store, I just don't. read more
