I popped into the Faltering Fullback on the way to White Hart Lane for a pre match pint. The pub is deceptive as a modest entrance gives lie to a huge space behind it. There is a massive screen making it a perfect place to watch football. There is also a completely unexpected outside decking area, definitely a place to explore on one of London's rare sunny days. read more

Lovely characterful pub nestled on a residential street. The pub seems small on entry but as you wander through the warren, it delivers plenty of seating and a huge beer garden. The beer garden is made out of decking and is staggered so that you get small pockets of seating. read more

Went there again for the umpteenth time in the past 8 years! What a glorious pub, just off the beaten track of Stroud Green Rd. A stone's throw from the World's End pub. With it's ivy strewn appearance, it appeals from the outside. The different bar areas provide a choice of environments, and the outside is great for a sunny days and smokers. It serves a full range of booze, and the staff are friendly and efficient Food is the in pub Thai style, although they do a great Sunday Roast here too. Managed to find a seat during the Chelsea v Barca game, no where near the screens showing the game - which must have been the only reason it was free. I must admit the pub was heaving last night, but only to be expected for such an important game. Must be an Arsenal pub, coz the cheer for the Barca goal was huge!! It gets busy on w'ends, and is a popular pub - rightly so, it has the feeling of a proper community pub. Go, you'll be happier after. read more

The Faltering Fullback may just be the best pub in North London. If you're looking for well-priced drinks surrounded by a young adult crowd then this is the place for you. Finsbury park town has some attractive features but the main one that people don't realize that's available is the beauty of the Fullback. During the football season, the inside ambiance is exactly what one looks for when cheering for the Arsenal team. Plenty of space, well priced beers, excellent Thai food and great people. The main attraction of this bar is the fantastic beer garden that you would never expect to stumble across as you walk in. It's a beautiful scene, filled with heat warmers for the winter, and a lovely view of the sky in the summer. The architure is gorgeous, three floors, with private spaces and smoking areas, all of which are covered in the natural decore of leaves and flowers. The only downfall of The Faltering Fullback is it's extremely well hidden, and not enough people know about it. Every day of the week is a good crowd, so make sure you stop in for a visit as soon as you can! read more

Not sure if this is the best pub in North London, but it is certainly the best pub by a country mile in Finsbury Park (or Crouch End / Holloway). Really friendly place with a nice bar, decent selection of drinks, and a large airy function room out the back. Looks a bit shabby from the outside, but don't let that put you off! read more

Fabulous gardening here! A bit out of the way, but pub quiz is good here, and there's a big beer garden / hall in the back where you can get Thai food. Nothing extraordinary about the beers and ales on tap, but then again, you don't always need your pub to be extraordinary. Just plain nice is ok by me. read more

This place used to be my local and I miss it so much! Definitely better in summer - has to be the best beer garden in North London, although when the sun's out you'll struggle getting a table. Inside is a bit dingy and drab, but just adds to the character of the place. Don't go expecting an amazing wine list or unbeatable food (the Thai menu is ok, nothing special), but the atmosphere more than makes up for it, especially if you get a spot in the garden. read more

Great pub, with 4 distinct areas comprising the Irish bar at the front with a slightly less rowdy thoroughfare on the way to a more studenty area replete with widescreen TVs for sport and park benches where can you eat Thai food although I wouldn't subsitute a meal at a restaurant for this fayre. The jewel in the crown is the 4 tiered beer garden which fills up pretty quickly with any hint of sunshine. Great atmosphere if a little packed sometimes. Good mix of people, from the local old gent to your student loan-maxing student right through to the Shoreditch Samurai types. The exterior is beautiful, it should be noted. read more

Since the awful smoking ban came in, enjoying a pub has completely changed for me. If I am indoors, I spend most of my time thinking about my next trip outside and if I am with companions, either I see very little of them or, if we go outside together, we risk losing our seat. If we are both smokers and take turns going outside, we never see one another. The Faltering Fulback is the best pub in London, in my opinion, for smokers and their companions. The garden is built on five levels, like a huge Escher building, with mad steps going up and down interlinking the various levels. The outside seating area, much of which is covered in case of poor weather, is charming, and because of added items of furniture such as bookcases, paintings and mirrors, those non-smokers who resent it when smokers insist on getting a table outside will not feel that they are missing out on the pub atmosphere, as the outdoors atmosphere in this pub is second to none. Comfortable, and at night-time buzzing with people. Sports fans can enjoy a good atmosphere also a great place to watch major sporting events such as the World or European cup is guaranteed to bring in large crowds from the surrounding multicultural population. I couldn't recommend this amazing pub highly enough. read more

Has to be one of my favourite pubs in the area. Really nice bunch running the place. Always busy as they are heavy linked to sport, showing games and also as a social meet up after local rugby tournaments. Amazing tiered garden that again gets full very quickly. Cor wow you gotta love London. So many hidden gems. I don't agree with the general opinion that Finsbury Park is a hole, not no longer anyway- I've developed something of a soft spot for it over the last year. Walk West from Finsbury Park up Stroud Green road passed all the hair product shops and take a right. Enjoy looking through the windows of all the Victorian terraced houses and just like that, out of the middle of nowhere, up pops the Fullback. Weekend nights is jammed packed, I was following instructions to go find my girl who was there playing pool. First step through the door took me into a tiny horse shoe shaped bar and I assumed I must be in the wrong place where on earth would they fit a pool table?? Tardis, that's what the Fullback is. One room peels off another off another until you come out into a hall dedicated to the art of beer swilling. Garden picnic tables furnish the room with pool table to the left. Outside there is the most charming series of little terraces- they have made something out of nothing here, clearly thinking if we can't go outwards, we shall go skywards. It's just so cool. Probably my favourite pub in all on North London at the moment and what a cool name right? read more

The venue was great, the bar staff awesome, but had serious problems with the customer service of the Thai restaurant inside FF! The waitress had accidentally brought the order of a different table to our table, which we confirmed with her as not being ours. We confirmed multiple times no one had ordered the additional dish and that it was a different table, but instead of taking the order back to the kitchen the waitress eventually left it on our table with a huff. 15 minutes later she and security come to our table and accuse us of not paying for the additional dish (you pay for your food at the bar when you order it) and threatened to throw out our entire party unless someone paid for the meal that no one had ordered right there and then. When we explained the mix up to management we were told to pay or leave, which really soured the night. Really wish I had nothing but good things to say but forcing us to pay for something that a) was already paid for and b) was meant for someone else was a disappointing turn to the night. read more

A real North London gem. The perfect summer pub, loads of outdoor space, hidden nooks and crannies - perfect for romantic rendezvouses (is that even a word?) or for meeting up with the girls/boys. On the down side when it's cold and wet outside the Fullback is often heaving inside... And the Thai food is a bit blah. read more
