Came here on a weekend a few months back. The space itself was fairly large and had multiple events going on. The service was okay. The same goes for the food. The bartenders were friendly and attentive. It's not the best location given that it's not near public transportation but not unexpected given that it's in New Jersey. read more

Attended a family party at this venue and it was beyond atrocious. There is absolutely no private parking so they have to share parking with their neighboring business across the road. The room that was chosen was their glass room. The glass itself was dirty and disgusting on the outside so all the attendees were able to see the dirt that has been collecting throughout the years. The bathroom was dirty and there was pee everywhere. This is also assuming that we were the first party of the night which means the bathrooms were not cleaned prior to the party. Food: The food was subpar, however, there were some dishes that were eatable. They had a chicken, fish parm and a beef and broccoli. The food wasn't replenished the entire time so people had to wait. Might I also add that either the owner or manager (I'm assuming was the owner) also lined up to grab food. He also stayed in the empty divided room and watched the party. Then on top of that, he lined up to grab coffee when dessert came out. Staff/clean up: Staff was nice, but it took them a while to clean up. I think I waited about 30 minutes for them to clean up my plates that I had stacked for them to easily clean up. Other than that, they were alright. read more

We had our son's engagement party at this catering hall, and unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. When we first visited, we met with Rosa, who was pleasant and easy to work with. We agreed on pricing for a sit-down dinner that included three entrée options: steak, chicken, and fish. She also told us we would have access to use their available decorations, including flowers, chair scarves, and arches. Based on those terms, we signed the contract. As the event approached, we met with the owner, Vijay, to finalize details and make our final payment. This is where everything went downhill. He was very difficult to deal with and attempted to change multiple aspects of our agreement. First, he insisted we should only offer two entrée options instead of the three we had agreed upon. Then he told us that the "steak" included in our contract would actually be sliced roast beef. Our contract clearly stated "sirloin of beef," and we were verbally told steak from the beginning. When we pushed back, he said if we wanted actual steak, it would cost an additional $22 per person. He also tried to charge us extra for decorations that we were explicitly told were included. After a lot of back-and-forth, he reluctantly honored what we had originally been promised. We then selected light gold linens and chair scarves in advance. However, when we arrived the day before to set up, we were given a completely different mustard gold color. When we showed him photos of what we had chosen, he told us that if we wanted those, he would have to order them at an additional cost of $10 per chair--even though we had seen those exact items displayed in another hall at the venue. To make matters worse, the night of the event was just as frustrating. None of the servers working that evening spoke English, which made communication nearly impossible. We were trying to find out when dinner orders would be taken, but the server could not understand or explain anything to us. Eventually, the bartender came over and, with limited English, explained that guests were supposed to fill out a paper with their meal choices. This was never communicated to us at any point. How were we supposed to know that? Overall, the entire experience became stressful and frustrating due to constant changes, lack of transparency, and failure to honor what was agreed upon. What should have been a joyful celebration turned into an unnecessary struggle. I would strongly advise anyone considering this venue to get every single detail clearly written and confirmed--and even then, proceed with caution. read more

went for a family member wedding and it was so disastrous! The 2 waitresses was beyond rude, the gentleman with the glasses was kind and attentive. there was gum on the chair and 2 less seats than settings at the table. We as a family decided to cook certain foods (jerk chicken, oxtail, salmon, etc.) and as dinner was being served the maitre D melts saying come trays were missing we had to go in the back to "find it" and they were right there. when it was time to bring out the second trays it had look like someone ate out of it already and when we went to the back we saw that the staff had served themselves a plate of food that we personally cooked and brought requested by bride and groom while dinner was being served instead of waiting to serve the guest they decided to steal our food instead. it's doesn't end there! as it's time to leave valet lost my car keys giving excuses that's some guy keeps keys on him ??? i'm sorry is there not a key box? and the key wasn't even on "the guy". overall terrible experience and not one sorry. I had my mother's wedding on September 8,2018 and I must say I was a bit nervous due to the bad reviews on yelp. But surprisingly everything was perfect.. the food was delicious. It was an open bar event and although my mom misunderstood the contract Victor made it work and accommodated so that both parties were happy. Victor was very professional and helpful he checked up on us throughout the celebration which was amazing. The bartender was really nice and made sure the guests were taken care of. I got married in 2005. My marriage failed but that's not the reason for my poor review! I had my reception here and I just thought about writing a review. I established a good rapport with the manager and paid a significant deposit before the wedding. Everything went well until about two or three hours into the event when they summoned me and my father-in-law into the office to complain about an outstanding balance of a few hundred dollars. I could not believe that the took us away from our celebration for that. I lost about 30 minutes from the party discussing this and making payment for their measly balance. They should have forgiven the balance for the time they stole from me during the party. Not only was that uncalled for, it was unprofessional the way they brought it to my attention in front of several guests. I will always and forever advise everybody I know to avoid having any type of celebration at this place because of their rude and unprofessional behavior. I agree with the majority of posts rating the Excelsior at 1Star. As some even said if 0 Stars were possible, that would be my rating. It is the absolute worst. I cannot stress WORST enough. DO NOT contract with this venue for ANY event. I am a member of a scholarship organization in Bergen County that has been in existence since 1950. We have at least two events at venues per year. I tell you this because I am not basing this rating on a one-time experience. We come with certain expectations of a venue. A venue should meet the basic needs of the customer; cleanliness, politeness, appetizing fare to just name a few. The Excelsior met none of these expectations. First, the management wanted full payment days prior to the event. This should have set off a caution signal. In all the years of event planning this is the first time full payment was required before event occurred. A deposit yes, but full payment, no. Second, upon our guests arrival the valet DEMANDED a $5 fee. Third, there was no one available to direct the guests to which room the affair was being held. Not even a sign! Fourth, the tableware and linen were not clean and/or not matching. Fifth, the food left a lot to be desired, it was tasteless. I cannot stress enough. DO NOT USE THIS VENUE FOR ANYTHING. I had my Son's first birthday party here the past weekend, Victor/Vijay was very helpful. He definitely was willing to accommodate our requests. I liked his attitude towards getting things done per our requirement. The hall was very beautiful, food was catered from outside and was amazing. I would definitely recommend this place. Victor was available for any questions through out the process and he was present at the day of the event. Any requests, he was there and was willing to make it happen. Event was a success and we got good feedback from most of the guests. The reason I give 4 stars, Excelsior completely forgot to serve a dish/entrée which was sitting in the kitchen till the end of the party. Also, we lost few gift cards and expensive shades (again can't blame them alone for this and we should have been more careful) but I really wish they could have checked the cameras and helped us, given that we had the cards/shades till almost the end of the party (We lost the them in the last 30-45 mins) Shades were actually found by another guest and were given to a server who worked at the excelsior, who then stated that she left it on a table, why would someone who works there leave the shades on a table and not report it to the management? shady! read more

The Excelsior was a great choice for us and all our guests!! I'm so pleased to say that it was everything promised and delivered. This was a bridal shower for 250 women and everyone left very pleased with the service and the food. The place is gorgeous for pictures all over the venue and victor the owner really worked with us and went out of his way just for the bride aka me. He was there through my whole wedding too always making sure everything was to my liking. Had such a fun time everyone a week later is still talking about what a beautiful wedding we had. I had the salmon with dill sauce and it was yummy I had so many compliments on my food at the wedding i wouldnt change a thing. This is the venue my mother choose for her wedding and at first I was a bit skeptical especially because of the reviews. This place is located on a busy Highway and It's pretty tricky to find the entrance . However The Staff was OUTSTANDING everyone from the Waiters/waitress bartender as well as the establishment manager was on deck and readily available. The food was good I had the Chicken Franceses not bad at all, the price for the venue is what really blew me away ... Honestly I didn't expect this level of service. We had wedding crashes from a downstairs party, the wrong food served at cocktail hour, not enough seating for guests, dirty bathrooms and inadequate amount of servers. We originally booked with Alana who was wonderful but smart enough to walk out but unfortunately for us it was two days before our wedding! Although the wait staff were friendly and courteous, there is no way they could be on top of everything. There is no maitr'd in sight. I had a conversation with one of the servers and they are not paid nearly enough for all the work they do. Talk about exploitation!!! But the host is charged for service and 18% tips on top of that. First impression: the establishment looks like it was abandoned in 1989. Trash littered the driveway and surrounding areas. Both trash receptacles at the entrance were cracked and broken. Let's go inside: Still looks like 1989. The black and white printed paper on the marquee was real classy. Chunks of the stairs in the grand entrance area were missing. A lawsuit waiting to happen. The ceremony: The room had six chandeliers. One was 3/4 the size of the others. I'm sure that will look fantastic in the happy couples wedding album. Cocktail hour: One bartender. While waiting on line for a drink (at least 20 minutes), I noticed an employee having a hard time loading a compressed gas cylinder into one of the portable burners. Said gas cylinder is now on fire. Flames six feet tall. Without my instruction to place the burner on the floor and cover it, that cylinder could've exploded. People could've been severely injured or worse. The reception: Many dinners at my table and surrounding tables were incorrect. My dinner was cold. Others said the same. Some of the staff were wonderful as others are clearly in the wrong business. That had a door right behind the stage and looked really bad. And the chandelier was right on my face. We picked another hall and we went home. On the wedding day, they would not let us use all the tables and would argue with the guests. To a extend one of the staff, I think his name was Mohammed got in an argument with my sister. You would think my horrible experience would come to an end. But no that did not happen. Then finally my wife and I sat down for our 1st dinner as husband and wife. I Took the 1st bite and food was just bad, like nasty, cold meat, crusty rice and bread felt few days old. I asked the manager what is going on, he told me the food ran out. We were served horrible meal as our 1st meal. There are no words to describe how sad it was. The next day I called the caterer to find out the problem. And I was told the management at the Excelsior ordered food for only 180 people when I had paid for over 250 people. The next day we had our reception there, which went better. Let me start with the good because there was 2! The food is good and Alana Levy was very helpful and did as much as she could. Now the bad!!!! First the owner Victor!! He's a crook ,a liar,and extremely sneaky why? well, he tried to charge me $250 for the bridal room,and $5oo for a maitre d' to run my wedding. I was almost all paid for when he added these ridiculous fees all of a sudden. I said I wouldnt pay and I didnt. Then I paid for children ages 4-12 at a lower price and children of age 3 and under were free because they were suppose to get chicken fingers and fries that never happened, they said valet parking and the champagne was complementary and it wasnt I had my guest calling my bridesmaids and husband asking where to park, I had bought sparkling cider to give to a few guest as favors and they served my guest the sparking cider. I had nothing to give those guest as a favor because they used my favors. To make it better I couldnt enjoy my wedding because I kept gettting looked in the bridal suite...weird? no dangerous!!...After my first dance as a married couple I went to change my dress I closed the door and couldnt open the door because the lock was broken I was locked in that little room for 20 mins thank God someone was looking for me and they saw what happend and called Alana to get me out. Victor was called, he came to unlocked in the bridal suite with a credit card.When I spoke to Victor to ask him to please give me that extra time at the end of the party because it was time wasted he said no that he could only give me 15 min,mind you we were talking about this in the same room, at this point my husband,victor, and I are locked in again because hes trying to fix the door;again time wasted.
