Gayle and I found this hotel on the on the village green in Broadway, the 'Jewel of the Cotswolds'…read more This is a cosy sixteenth-century inn which for us brought together the best combination of outdoor patio, bar, restaurant, and room during our recent 6 day walk. Here are my ratings: Location (5 Stars) - Right downtown and an easy walk around High street. Very dog friendly and very nice front desk staff. Bar (5 Stars) - Gorgeous inside bar area, which we saw both from ground level and via the upper catwalk to our room. Service was friendly and engaging. Patio (5 Stars) - Steller outdoor patio on a very nice day. We relaxed with our drinks and never wanted this experience to end. Dinner (5 Stars) - As fine a dining experience as we had during our week in the Cotswolds. We took dinner in a very nice dining room with comfortable seating and excellent meal choices. Breakfast (5 Stars). Breakfast was in the dining room and featured good selection, nice dining room, timely service, strong coffee, good portions, and tasty choices. You can't do much better than that. Accommodation (4 Stars). One thing we found about historic UK Inns is that climbing up the stairs with luggage is required. Yes, they'll help you, but we're starting to get a little old for this. The room was a big small, but we really appreciated having both a bedroom and sitting room, which accommodated our different sleep schedules.

Five stars except HORRIBLE RESTAURANT FOOD AND STAFF!…read more Fantastic hotel! The staff in the hotel and bar are absolutely top shelf! Eager to please and accommodate your every request! Ellie at reception is always polite, professional, and really all the ladies at reception are a joy! Charlie and Lorrie in the bar are charming, witty and very pleasant! Literally there is nothing the hotel staff wouldn't do at any hour. For example, on an especially cold night I asked for a heater at 11:00pm...no problem! I was having a problem getting my tv to work...someone popped up and figured it out, and happy to go so. I WISH I could say the same for the restaurant! Staff doesn't know how things are prepared. When I asked how the goat cued was prepared and presented, my blonde female waitress said 'with goat cheese'! Seriously. Every single dish I ordered was dreadful. Let me give you specifics: Roasted pigeon starter arrived COLD, so tough and filled with gristle you could not cut it barely eat it! Venison haunch...not cooked and filled with gristle. I had to ask for a steak knife and then it was absolutely flavorless. Roasted cod: I overheard a gentleman saying the bacon jam was overly salty so I ordered mine without. It turns out it was the cod that was incredibly salty and under cooked, so much so I couldn't eat it! Spare ribs: ok but polenta was greasy beyond napkins, truly disgusting! The short ribs are expected to be fatty but these had absolutely no substance! Reminded me of a pork chop in France that had zero meat. So...hotel lovely....food is absolute garbage but maybe English food preparation is notoriously bland, bad cuts, nasty and people are just supposed to put up with it? Not anymore, welcome to Trip Advisor and Yelp! Stay here!!! Do not eat here!
