A pleasant surprise. Both in variety and quality. And it wasn't pricey. Main for 2 with one drink was £38. There was a rugby game on between Scotland & Ireland which added to the atmosphere. Very pleasant staff.... And you can buy a round of beers for the Kitchen for £20.

After a few days in the Cotswolds the tourist villages start to all seem generic. On the various high streets one finds the same knick-knack stores, same charity shops, the clothes boutiques and the endless sweets & child's toy stores. Same goes as well for the pub eateries. This one certainly fits the mold of tourist town pub. Located on the town square. Kitschy old England dining room decor, generic pub food menu, young maiden servers. The pork pie special lunch was good enough. Meat stewed to succulence. Fresh vegetables steamed to near mushiness. Mash potatoes were smooth without excess butter. Sadly the flaky pastry rectangle meant to crumble on top of the stew was stale. Remarkable meal? No. Was adequate on a cold afternoon to warm & fill my belly. For 15 quid I could expect nothing more. Pint of Hatcher's cider was pumped from the cask. Tasty & smooth. A-okay rating. Though I'm starting to think I can save 12 quid on lunch by eating a pre-made sandwich from Budgen's supermarket and be just as happy.

This review is particularly for the pub only. After the long day in Woodstock, we stopped by Stow on the wold on the way back to our hotel in search for dinner. It was a quiet night and quite chilling so we didn't plan much of where to eat, we also didn't want to walk aimlessly looking for food so we just walked in The King Arms' Pub. We were greeted warmly and our order was taken promptly. Appetizers were tasty and came out quickly. That was really helping since we were tired and hungry! The main dishes look fantastic and taste great! I really think the Brits cook their potatoes really really well! All the potatoes taste just as great as the star of the dish! Price was great. Ambience was wonderful. A great English Pub experience. Cozy and warm.

We enjoyed a lovely evening at the Kings Arms. The restaurant/pub was quiet and the service was excellent. The tomato soup was a highlight for me, and everyone enjoyed the bubble and squeak (look it up!). The pub has a British atmosphere that's perfect after a day spent in Stow on the Wold. It was also recommended in a 2008 article featured in The NY Times, however, we discovered it simply by walking through town. One complaint was that the pork chop was a bit fatty. The flavors were great, but for the price, I would like a meatier cut. On the whole, the Kings Arms is definitely worth a visit!

Absolutely terrible customer service. Impolite hostess. Kept giving dirty looks to our entire party.

From the moment you walk through the door, you're met with that quintessential Cotswold feel--low beamed ceilings, warm wooden floors, and a cozy, intimate atmosphere that works just as well for a relaxed lunch as it does for a intimate dinner. It's quaint without trying too hard, and you can feel the history in the space. The staff are genuinely cheerful and welcoming, adding to the overall experience without being overbearing. Service flows naturally, you order your food and drinks at the bar before heading to your table. As for the food, it absolutely delivers. From the main courses, everything is thoughtfully prepared and satisfying, rounding out an experience that feels both comforting and a little special at the same time. If you're looking for a true taste of the Cotswolds--both in atmosphere and hospitality--Porch House Restaurant is a spot well worth visiting.

Check in was a breeze and oh so glad I had an overnight bag as there is no lift. The accomadations were just wonderful, from the comfy bed, the linens and the available drinks. We enjoyed Dinner in the Hotel's restaurant (we did have reservations) and it was memorable. The morning breakfast service and available choices were a delight and such attentive service. I must add that this Hotel is located in one gem of a town and one I will definitely be revisiting. Parking can be a pain, but definitely worth it.

Our cottage, No. 30, was about 180 pounds B&B, VAT included. It was larger than most rooms, with a living area, sleeping area with king bed (a bit soft), a small sitting room and a front patio overlooking the back of the lodge. Stow may not be the quaintest or most charming of the Cotswold villages, and the main Square is being taken over by a larger and larger parking lot. However, it is handy to be able to easily walk to attractions such as the medieval St. Edward's Church, Grade I listed with its remarkable door flanked by huge yew trees, and to places to shop and eat and drink. Stow is handy to visit other nearby villages, if you have a car or can spring a pretty penny for a hire taxi. As to Stow Lodge, it is the kind of places that just looks and feels very, very English. Indeed, although it was high season for tourism (August 2023) nearly all the guests appeared to be British. Besides us, there was one apparently American family and one evening a group touring in vintage Bentleys stopped for the night (one of the Bentleys, a 1929 4 1/2-liter, was owned by an Australian.) This Bentley surely would bring 300,000 pounds or more if offered for sale. Most of the guests, like us, were, shall we say, older? Nearly everyone staying the the small lodge had dinner in the very English dining room (think roast beef on Sunday, fried whitebait for appetizers, and roast lamb). You could have a drink in the bar or the in the sitting room with overstuffed leather sofas, but dinner started exactly at 7 pm. The room came inclusive of a full English breakfast, with eggs either fried, scrabled or poached, served promptly at 8 am. Service at this family-owned inn was friendly, cheerful and efficient. Everything was very clean, and the lodge is well run.

The room was clean and well appointed, the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom seem to have been updated. Dinner at the Hotel restaurant was delicious. I had a breast of duck with roasted potatoes and green beans. Breakfast(off menu) was included with our stay. I had the Full English, a pot of coffee juice and toast. The waitstaff was great. Hotel also has a bar and serves afternoon tea that you can enjoy in the fireside lounge. I definitely recommend the Stow Lodge Hotel.

Never have I ever left a restaurant in tears. You know when…read moreyou just *feel* the racism? It doesn't need to be blatant but is usually subtle. POC will understand 100% that feeling. We booked this last minute and as soon as we walked in, were ignored. A white couple came in after us and the blonde waitress went directly around us and took them to a table. I made direct eye contact as she was taking them, as if to say, I saw that and yes we're still here. She intentionally avoided us completely after as we were standing there waiting to be helped. The man behind the bar saw, seated us instead, and then we were ignored for another 20 minutes. I asked another blonde waitress if we could be helped and she said WE'LL GET TO YOU. She had never even acknowledged our presence or existence prior. I was already so upset we just decided to leave after that. We left with empty bellies and a trip to a local grocery store instead. There's a Yelp review from 9 days ago about this and one on TripAdvisor from this month saying the EXACT SAME THING.

We had: - Crispy Lincolnshire Poacher, roasted sweet potato, honey roasted carrots, baby spinach, chicory, avocado (£8.50) - basically a grown up mozzarella stick that was so delicious we had a hard time getting our mom to share bites with us. - Mixed roast beef and pork, crackling & Apple sauce w/ goose fat potatoes, double egg Yorkshire pudding, red cabbage, honey roasted roots cauliflower cheese and gravy (£16.50) - thank god we saw another table receive their servings first because then we knew this was a huge portion to be shared. Very good, traditional English meal - Crispy pork belly, creamy truffle mash, baby spinach, roasted button onion, cauliflower purée, apple sauce (£16.50) - delicious, especially the creamy truffle mash. Service was friendly although we had to catch their attention a bit more than I like. The space has a welcoming, well-decorated pub feel but well lit. We realized afterwards that they had out door seating which would have been nice to take advantage of with the fantastic weather! There is a parking lot out front.

There was a nice bathroom, again decorated very aptly. Breakfast was a highlight, I had the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, which was divine. The coffee was good too.
