We went to the Enigma Room, tried out both of their rooms and had a lot of fun...
The Enigma room is really well located- it's on Pitt St and very close to Town Hall Station (probably a three minute walk). The place is easy enough to find but just in case, the Enigma team send you instructions the day before your booking with photos of street views of the building so you definitely can't get lost. As you walk in, you're greeted by the enthusiastic team, they offer you beverages, there is a lounge area so you can sit and there is an old school gaming machine (I think it had pacman on it but I'm not sure), which are all nice touches..
The Enigma room is quite different to other escape room experiences I have had. I think one of the main differences is how much effort has gone into theming. While in other escape rooms, the theme is more of a background thing that can be ignored and has nothing to do with escaping, these guys have stuck to the theme a lot more (by using props, videos and making sure their puzzles fit the theme) and this definitely adds to the whole experience.
The actual rooms themselves are fitted with a number of puzzles, and like most escape experiences, these range in difficulty from easy to pretty hard. We found that Im Memoriam was harder than Dr. Disaster so I would recommend starting with Dr. Disaster if you are unsure. The puzzles themselves have obviously had a lot of effort go into them and are quite different to those you see in other places- I don't want to give too much away but be prepared for computers and gadgets... If you get stuck at all, you can ask for help via a tablet and they will provide hints to guide you along...
We had four people for the first room (Dr. Disaster) and six people for the second (Im Memoriam). I personally thought six people was a few too many so if you are booking an Enigma Room, I would recommend going with a group of four ideally..
Overall, we had a really good time and I will definitely be going again if they add or change their rooms.. read more
