We bought a Tesla Model 3 in February after the recent price drops and needed to find a qualified electrician to install a home charger. We contacted three electricians to get quotes to run a 60 amp circuit around 45 feet from the main panel to the garage and to install a Tesla Wall Connector. Two of them were within $25 of each other, and The Electric Connection surprisingly was $300 less than the other quotes. Given the substantial price difference, we initially were wary of going with the lowest priced quote. However, all of the reviews were consistently good so we decided to take a chance. Staff, including Bob, Tony, Danielle, Fabio, and Larie, maintained constant communication throughout the process -- from applying for the permit to scheduling the install and scheduling the final inspection. They also provided all the necessary photos to prove the installation was done to code and sent us documentation (e.g., itemized invoices and receipts) we needed to apply for EV charger installation rebate programs. For those of you that live in the City of LA, LADWP offers a rebate up to $1000 and SCAQMD offers a rebate up to $250 on the purchase and installation of a EV charging station. However, only the Tesla J1772 Wall Connector is eligible under the LADWP program. As with all things, YMMV. In short, I would highly recommend using The Electric Connection if you need an EV charging station installed. I called them and requested an EV Charger in my garage following my neighbor's recommendation. They quoted me $6k for the same job my neighbor paid $4k for. When I asked why, James alluded to Democrats being the reason. Even if inflation has been high, it's never reached 50% in 70+ years in this country, which is the increase in this price. They were very informative and thorough with all of their procedures as well as communicating through the process. I was unsure of permit pricing and they helped me out by contacting the appropriate offices for the paperwork and then giving me a flat fee for all of the work. I was able to get my charger installed within a week after the permit was approved. the work was finished in a few hours and I was extremely satisfied. The total for them to install depends on the number of footing required for the cables and the area of your charger so it differs for each case but they will provide you with accurate estimates. read more

I really don't like giving bad reviews, but my husband and I had a very poor experience with this company when it came to replacing our Electrical Panel as well as simply getting power to ONE of our outlets in the entire house. My experience was already off to a bad start when I called and innocently asked for an estimate on an electric panel replacement. Rather than politely correcting me to say that they needed to do an inspection first to then give an estimate, the man on the other line rudely responded in jest and proceeded to speak to me in a condescending manner as if I should have already known that I needed to ask for an inspection before an estimate. Flustered, I had my husband call, and he received a completely different, and more cordial answer from the same man. I left all communication after this to my husband after feeling like I was talked down to due to being a woman on the other end. This should have been our first red flag to go to a different electric company, but we continued due to the Yelp reviews we read here. Email and phone communication was spotty as we approached putting down our deposit and doing the inspection. The check we gave was never cashed for the inspection according to the bank, but at the very least a note about it was made on our final receipt. The amount charged was fair, but still the communication was shaky. Documents we were required to give the city of Burbank to approve the panel were not given to us until we had to push the company to send them to us. When the installation happened, the need for spackling the interior of our home was not mentioned to us until day of. We knew they would need to cut some holes inside to run wire, but at the very least mention of us needing to repair our walls would have been welcome. Finally, we noticed one of our outlets was not working after the new panel was installed and they came by to check it out. Unfortunately, we were over charged for the service, and the outlets they opened up around the ONE faulty one were not reinstalled correctly back (some hasitly screwed back in at angles). We plan on adjusting these on our own due to our frustration with the unfortunate lack of professionalism from this company. And while I don't usually look at low reviews on Yelp, please consider this one as my husband and I feel cheated by the pricing and service of this company. I truly wish we had the experience others here had, but sadly, that was not our reality. Needless to say, we are back on the hunt for a new electrician and do not recommend this company in the slightest. read more

I recently purchased a Tesla Model S and wanted a home charging system installed. I purchased the Tesla Wall Connector and was referred by their website to three local vendors for installation. I called them all, and two other electricians I has worked with in the past. I spoke to each vendor, sent photos of my main electric panel, detailed photos relevant to the installation, etc. Based on the info provided, the other two Tesla-referred vendors and one other electrician all wanted me to upgrade my main electric panel before installing the wall connector, at an additional cost of ~$3,700. The folks from The Electric Connection suggested this might not be necessary, if they could check the circuits on my panel, do some load balancing, and make room for a new 50A breaker. I know that within a year I'll want to upgrade my main panel (the house is 45 years old), but I had planned to do the panel upgrade along with other renovations in several months. I scheduled a visit with the service personnel from The Electric Connection who, as it turned out, were also available sooner than any other vendors. Two journeymen electricians showed up promptly on schedule, worked professionally, and did a great job on the install. Even though he is knowledgeable, he isn't very personable. In the past, Electric Connection had done good work. However, earlier this year, they did a poor job on a ceiling fan light install. The tech did not properly secure the light cover, and months later, the glass cover came crashing down. Fortunately, no one was in the living room at the time, and my young kids did not get hurt from this incident. It did cause a huge mess of what it seemed like hundreds of glass pieces everywhere. It also damaged my coffee table. I am disappointed that Electric Connection failed to take responsibility and did not compensate for any damages as a result. Upon their research, they had found 2 reviews of a similar incident, one of which was not even the same product and decided it was the fan that was at fault. I had done my own research, and there's no recall on this product. Looking at the parts, there's no way it could have fallen off if installed correctly. If I was not confident about the design and mechanism of this product, I would not be keeping it as safety comes first, especially with little ones. Initially, when trying it myself after receiving the replacement parts, I had mistakenly done the same thing as the first tech (presumably) where I didn't squeeze the parts tight enough for it to pass a metal stopper so it didn't allow me to twist more than about an inch in. Then my husband applied enough pressure to be able to pass the stopper and twist about 3 inches in to lock it in place correctly. The Hunter Fan company was nice enough to send a replacement so I was planning to let it go and have a different Electric Connection tech just put back the cover. However, they had required me to sign a waiver to not hold them liable for damages following the second time around. Without letting me know exactly when they needed that by, they gave my already scheduled appointment to another customer because I had emailed it one day before the appointment. Finally, a new tech showed up but just one man. I explained to him how the parts worked before he put on the cover. The fan swung a little while he was trying to squeeze parts together enough so that he could twist it in. I did see it twist this time around but sadly, I am not confident with their job because this should have been a 2-man job: one person to hold and stabilize the fan while the other person secures the cover. FYI, with the first tech, the fan did not swing at all with one man because pressure was not even used when putting on the cover. If something like this happens to you, BEWARE, you can be out of luck with having paid for a bad job, losing out on a $700 fan, a ruined coffee table, and worse, someone being permanently injured. read more

I recently got an EV and needed a NEMA 14-50 receptacle installed in my house. I called around for quotes, and Nick gave me a great price over the phone. Further, he broke down the price quote over the phone for what the costs were, very specifically including minimum charge for conduit, price for Breakers on older panels versus newer, etc. His quote was competitive, but their transparency won me over. Jerry arrived at 8:30a as agreed (on time). Whereas the telephone quote stated the job would take 4 hours, Jerry assured me it could be done in just over an hour. Sure enough, they were finished in 90 minutes and my receptacle was installed. Plugged in my car, and it immediately started charging. This is a follow up on my initial review. They acknowledged and apologized for a major communication mistake, which they informed me was likely because they were short staffed (understandable because we're in the middle of a pandemic). I was offered essentially a full refund and have someone from their team return to my house to have the work undone, but I didn't think that would be reasonable on my part. They already spent nearly a whole day doing the electrical work. I went ahead and contacted a HVAC contractor to finish up my project. When the project was done, the HVAC contractor commented on how good of a job The Electric Connection did on the electrical work. Moreover, the price The Electric Connection gave me for the work was actually very modest. In summary, they made mistakes during communication and they apologized for it. I talked to Bob and although The Electric Connection was unable to help me set up an outlet for a Level 2 EVSE due to my limited incoming power to a townhome (60a), he was very friendly and helpful with my incessant questions and more than a few emails (sorry about that, Bob). The woman answering phones is extremely friendly too. Another installer basically ghosted me after giving me a big quote, and others just said it was impossible without really taking the time to explain why. I know much more now than I did when I first starting getting bids, thanks to people like Bob. I should be clear, none of this is anyone's fault but for how these units were set up. Single-family homes, +1. I'm sure they would have done a great job with an installation, and who knows, nature might still find a way to make this NEMA installation work (I'm still looking for solutions around a DCC unit). A DCC unit is just a way to circumvent a full panel, where it cuts power to the EVSE if your amp load goes too high, and turns it back on when there's capacity to do so. I'll be checking with my HOA to see what their experience is, since the solution can't just be that nobody in a townhome with this power set up cannot have an EV! EVs are here to stay, and the incidence of ownership (or desired ownership) is growing. I wanted to give kudos to this company for being accommodating and yet honest with me about managing my expectations for a townhome clearly not built with EV-charging in mind! read more

Our experience was electrifying!... Yeah, I know. That was too much but I couldn't resist. We needed to install home charging capability for our Tesla and ended up putting in a circuit breaker in our main breaker panel, a 220 volt NEMA receptacle, and the wiring to connect the breaker to the receptacle. We had called around and checked the ratings of the different companies and the Electric Connection was highly rated. They also made the estimate process very easy. Many of the others wanted to schedule a day for a representative to come out to the house to provide the estimate. This meant an additional day taking time off from work to be available to meet them. The Electric Connection gave us the amounts for the estimate over the phone with set prices for the breaker and the NEMA receptacle and a price per of linear foot for the wiring from the main breaker panel to the NEMA plug. This made pricing their cost very easy and hassle free. Ultimately, we chose the Electric Connection based on their ratings and the easy estimate which turned out to be a reasonable price. They arrived on the scheduled day and within a few hours had the breaker hooked up to our new NEMA receptacle adjacent to our driveway. I was shocked at how quickly and thoroughly the work was completed with high quality. (I know. That was another weak attempt at electricity humor.) We have been very happy with our new electric hookup and the convenience of home charging. We were also very pleased at the price for the work which compared favorably to the amount friends were charged by other companies to have home charging capability installed at their homes.
