There were also 4 people sharing this one bathroom, including the room on the other side. At one point there were men in the adjoining room. Since it was a "Jack and Jill" bathroom people had to lock and unlock the door after use, so it would be accessible for everyone. That meant everyone was touching each doorknob with unwashed hands each time! Certainly it wasn't hygienic to say the least. The bathroom often had feces left on the toilet and on the floor on one occasion. When they did clean after we complained it was never a good cleaning, only the largest most obvious "situations" were cleaned. The kitchen was really messed up. There were supposedly two choices at each meal but the patients could never choose or know what they were. I asked for a menu but only received it for one day and even when I wrote down my choices I did not get them. Every meal was just sent to people and if you didn't like it or couldn't eat it you'd have to either call the kitchen who rarely answered the phone, or tell a nurse or aide. The quality of the food itself was low. The only reason I gave this facility any stars was because of the using staff. They have some very caring, knowledgeable, wonderful staff, who don5heir best to accommodate your needs. I would not recommend this facility because it was not clean or hygienic and the food was undependable and just not good. I am not a picky person when it comes to food and usually do not mind hospital food.

What really impressed me was the smoothness of the elevators. Obviously designed not to jolt the bones of the elderly, these things feel like they're not moving at all. When I went to leave and go back down to the first floor, I almost thought the elevator was broken. But no...it's just wicked smooth! The nurses seem friendly enough and professional. And the care here is clearly round-the-clock. I don't think 15 minutes went by where I didn't see a nurse walk in. So, Hanover Hill gets 5 motionless elevators out of 5.

I was told he had a couple blisters which caused this problem. He was unable to walk, I was told he was mobile and could go home. When the hospice nurse came to the house, and my first time seeing his foot I cried, even the nurse had NEVER seen anything like his foot and leg, we also found fingernail imprints behind his thigh, this was not from him. I've had a dozen surgeries and procedures in my 52 years and I've never had a better experience than I did yesterday. The PA nurse, Seana who was assigned to me, wow!!! She was everything we all always hope for. Seriously, I am so incredibly appreciative of the entire team yesterday. No question that they were all the best crew I've had in any setting in all of my experiences. I've had some truly remarkable teams over the years but nothing compared to yesterday. Seana especially, was so amazing. They all were for sure. Even Dr. Imbrie who did the procedure, he was kind, patient. Wasn't mean or brash with anyone in the room. He spoke to like a person. It went from being one of the scariest moments of my life to feeling calm, controlled and the iv. The nurse who I cannot remember his name, did my ivs and I did not feel them. No pain at all. I'm just so impressed and so so grateful for every single person on the crew yesterday. I cannot thank them enough. There was even a nurse, she was pregnant I remember and she was so kind, sweet and thoughtful. She made me feel so comfortable and safe. Seana was the best PA nurse I've ever met. Amazing young women and WDH is lucky to have her and that entire cardiac care team as are the patients who end up in their care.

She has no strength at all, and we had to do everything for her, everything. It was time. She was distressed, in grief, heartbroken. And it was hard. But the people here made her feel pretty good. She saw that it wasn't a prison. She had the freedom to go where she wanted in her electric wheelchair. She spent her first night in the family room watching her favorite Red Sox on a big screen! Everyone was so nice here. Just stellar. They understood. It will take some time, but I think she'll be happy. This really is a great place. It's clean and large and there is so much to do! It's like a mini resort. Thanks, Rockingham, for making Ma feel welcomed. It meant a lot to us.

I asked about pain management for a compression fracture in her spine, and was told they'd call the doctor about it. Tuesday I went to visit and she hadn't been evaluated and still hadn't received pain management. She was in a lot of pain and needed meds. I asked the nurses again, and once again was told they'd call the doctor. That evening I noticed my mother was sitting in an old, wet diaper. I spoke to a nurse who gave me an attitude saying she was changed that morning... This was 5pm, she should have been changed hours before. I again, asked about the doctor and pain management and was told they'd give her Tylenol and call the doctor. As I was sitting with my mother I was watching how the interactions were between other patients and staff, and I didn't like what I saw. Dirty residents, residents being spoken to with irritation, and one that was being led pretty aggressivly by the arm somewhere. You could tell it was too fast for her. My mother was supposed to be fed her meals and they just left trays there. She has alzheimers/dementia and wasn't able to feed herself. She was also complaining about pain in her stomach, which I wanted addressed by the doctor. I decided I wanted my mother out of there, and as soon as possible. Wednesday morning I reached out to another facility and set up a tour. It was clean, didn't smell, the residents weren't all over the place, the nurses and aides were all friendly and management gave me so much information that I never received at Maplewood. I felt happy leaving there. It had a much more homey feel to it. Maplewood was disgusting. It's dirty with smears of who knows what on the walls, spills on the floor, and the floors were sticky. The furniture is dirty, old and falling apart. There was also an overwhelming smell of urine. The place feels messy, chaotic and cold. The staff is rude and have horrible communication skills. They always looked bothered when I'd ask about her needing meds, or needing to be changed or for anything really. I went in and told them I wanted to get her into another facility and have it ready and set for them to work on the transfer. I was told not to go to this other facility because they were closing (not true), they weren't good, and they have some ex employees of theirs, and I might want to make sure I want her to go there. I tolf them yes, I want her to go there. The nurse was arguing with me that my mother was changed, and I don't believe she was. Not with how old that diaper looked and how full it was. Everyone that was cold and unfriendly before became friendly and accommodating on the nursing floor. Everyone in the lobby and management that were initially friendly while trying to get us in there, turned cold and unfriendly after I wanted my mother moved. So much for being professional. They even tried to get me to take my mother to the new place on my own, knowing she'd be leaving against medical advice and it would mess up her Medicare. There were maybe two nurses that were friendly but overall, most of the staff was unwelcoming and seemed annoyed with their job. I heard from the social worker this morning telling me she was just sitting down to get to my mother's admission forms and saw a note that I was transferring her and was I sure they took her insurance, and did they even have space for her? It's Thursday... My mother was sent to their facility Monday night at 5pm and you're just now getting to her file? There was no care plan made, nobody called to speak to me about her medical chart or how they planned to take care of her. For someone that was admitted with a compression fracture and in pain, they failed at adequately caring for her. If you can avoid Maplewood, please do!

If you tour the facility, they never show you the whole facility, make sure you see the west wing in the morning or in the evening when all the crazies are out. Make sure you get a look at what the staff affectionately calls Pee Street or Incontenance alley. Always an overwhelming odor of urine. Patients are stuck in dirty diapers all day. UTI's run rampant. People say this is one of the nicer nursing homes, sad state for long term care in massachusetts.

Granite House is an extended living treatment facility to assist substance abusers learn the habits…read morethat will keep them sober for the rest of their lives. It is not a quick fix, but a supplement to 28 day inpatient programs. 28 day programs get the ball started, but because there is usually nothing after that, the average success rate is something below 20%. My son started in the Granite House program in early November 2011. For the first several months, he didn't seem happy and kept telling me that he could do what he was doing there for a lot less money going to some other sober house or coming home. Then the light bulb went off, he finally became engaged in the process and started to excel. As he moved further from his addictions, his mind became clearer. He has been sober since October 2011 and I can proudly look at his achievements. In August of 2012, he left Granite House and chose to stay in Derry, New Hampshire to remain close to Granite House for the time being. These may not sound like big steps, but for a kid who just left the program what he did was tremendous. He found an apartment and worked out how to finance the rental. He got a job, and they have given him a raise and a promotion during his first 6 months working. For a kid who was an opiate addict, this is an amazing turnaround. Kudos to Mountainside Rehabilitation in Canaan, CT and The Granite House for making this possible.

They put her on the street and locked her out. We live two hours away but they didn't care. My husband drove to get her while I called the police, hospital, United way, anyone to get help. The granite house did not answer the phone. My daughter stood outside crying in for two hours until we could get there. I wouldn't send my worst enemy to this facility
