We were planning on homeschooling but I still wanted our kids to start with some school environment experience. Smyrna Montessori School was everything we were looking for. My children get lots of individual attention, are encouraged to explore and learn as much as they want and have had some wonderful friendships develop. There is a strong sense of respect modeled through kindness towards the teachers, classmates, learning materials and the world (cultures, the environment). The teachers love my children like they were their own and are passionate about the Montessori style of learning. Both of my children have gained a lot of confidence and independence since they began there. If I ever have a question I can set up a time to talk with any teacher. I'm always impressed with how aware they are of everything my child deals with on a daily basis, what their strengths are, how much progress they have made in areas of behavior, character and learning. I do wish they extended beyond the Primary program (3-6 years). I don't think there is any problem with illness any different than any other school environment. I don't love that the lead toddler teacher spot has changed hands a few times, but I understand that when a teacher has a baby she will want to take time to be with her new baby. This has been the only reason for teachers leaving that I am aware of. Those teachers have stayed in contact with the school and return for visits when possible. We feel very fortunate to be at Smyrna Montessori School and are so happy it opened at the perfect time for our kids. And as far as safety goes, our children are referred to as precious gifts, children are not allowed out of the classroom unless a teacher or parent is with them and the school and yard are secured during the day. I have no concern for my children's safety at all. Montessori is a different approach to learning than what a lot of people are used to, but for us it has been perfect. Oh, and I LOVE that I get an email and photos every week from each of my kids teachers touching on what the kids are working on and enjoying and some explanation about the Montessori process.

We were nervous about taking him out of a program he was so familiar with. But due to the amazing teachers and administration at Vinings Academy, he adjusted so quickly. Most of the teachers have been there for years and years and are so sweet and caring and do such a great job making learning fun. They teach the children different languages and it has been so adorable having the kids come home and sing songs in Spanish to us. This past year with COVID has been so crazy but finding Vinings Academy has been wonderful.

She did not report the incident (we found out 24 hours later) nor did she call my husband or myself. Supervisor(s) knew nothing (which is a reflection of their managerial skills) the day of the event. I spontaneously called shortly after on the incident (unknowingly) and she did not disclose what happened (told me everything was fine and he hadn't been crying). I removed him immediately. A facility that will not be upfront with you and inform you IMMEDIATELY about any incident involving your child, does not deserve your child's presence. They aren't trustworthy. The one star is for a clean and well-maintained facility. Please don't allow appearances to fool you. My son was there 3 weeks attending part-time. My background: I am a therapist (work with children and adults) and educational consultant. I've been practicing for over 15 years. During graduate school, I was an elementary school teacher. I hope this helps someone in the future and prevents child injury.

After moving to this part of Atlanta recently, I was amazed at the cost/waitlist/class size of many daycares in the area. I "interviewed" several places and was starting to question whether or not I was going to find a place that I felt comfortable taking my kids to everyday. The Goddard School Austell is the same place my niece and nephew went 8 years ago and without question is the best! Mrs. Lauren was immediately warm and welcoming inviting us in to see this "family feel" preschool. She is always open for conversation, empathetic, real, transparent and a parent herself. She employs a staff that also models those qualities. If we have ever had a concern about our children (potty training, bottle weaning, tantrums etc)... they are all there to assist, work with us and ultimately foster love, patience, knowledge and kindness in our babies! They have a curriculum that is followed and emailed monthly. Daily reports are sent out over a phone app making it easy to check in on the kids each day. Healthy breakfasts and catered (healthy) lunches are provided each day, along with snacks in between. They have nice playgrounds that the kids love playing on when it is nice outside and a large open gym to run around in when it is raining or too cold to be outside, with a built in rock climbing wall, what?! Along with the day-to-day activities, they are always doing special things around the holidays for the kids/parents (Christmas program, Easter egg hunt, Valentines, etc). I honestly could go on and on about all the ways The Goddard School Austell is a phenomenal daycare... but most importantly, I don't have to question what type of care my little ones are getting. I know in my absence they are being loved, nurtured, comforted and allowed to grow, learn and explore in a warm and caring environment...every day. I understood that spray bottles may have been used outside to help cool children off in the summer, but what I saw concerned me enough that I asked administration for a meeting to better understand the policy and whether spray bottles were ever used for anything other than cooling off. When I spoke with Lauren, I did not feel my concern was received well. The conversation focused more on my wording and whether I was accusing the school of abuse than on giving me clarity about what I had seen. I left the conversation feeling that my concern as a parent had been met defensively rather than constructively. Because of that interaction, we withdrew our child that day. I had a positive impression of some parts of Goddard overall, but based on my experience with this specific location, I would not personally recommend it.

There were lots of fun activities throughout the year including a petting zoo, music class, parties, science days, trips to the library and my favorite of all, field trips to Bethel Gardens to share songs and fellowship.
