Smyrna Montessori School

Smyrna Montessori School

It also fosters independence and my kids are capable of so many things that I never thought they would be at their ages. The teachers are kind and patient, but firm, and they really get to know you children and appreciate who they are as individuals. The fresh, healthy snacks from a local co-op are just a bonus. My only problem with the school is that it doesn't go past age 6. We'll be so sad to leave!

I have a 2 year old and 5 year old at SMS. My 5 year old has been attending since he was 3 and the…read moreschool opened. We were planning on homeschooling but I still wanted our kids to start with some school environment experience. Smyrna Montessori School was everything we were looking for. My children get lots of individual attention, are encouraged to explore and learn as much as they want and have had some wonderful friendships develop. There is a strong sense of respect modeled through kindness towards the teachers, classmates, learning materials and the world (cultures, the environment). The teachers love my children like they were their own and are passionate about the Montessori style of learning. Both of my children have gained a lot of confidence and independence since they began there. If I ever have a question I can set up a time to talk with any teacher. I'm always impressed with how aware they are of everything my child deals with on a daily basis, what their strengths are, how much progress they have made in areas of behavior, character and learning. I do wish they extended beyond the Primary program (3-6 years). I don't think there is any problem with illness any different than any other school environment. I don't love that the lead toddler teacher spot has changed hands a few times, but I understand that when a teacher has a baby she will want to take time to be with her new baby. This has been the only reason for teachers leaving that I am aware of. Those teachers have stayed in contact with the school and return for visits when possible. We feel very fortunate to be at Smyrna Montessori School and are so happy it opened at the perfect time for our kids. And as far as safety goes, our children are referred to as precious gifts, children are not allowed out of the classroom unless a teacher or parent is with them and the school and yard are secured during the day. I have no concern for my children's safety at all. Montessori is a different approach to learning than what a lot of people are used to, but for us it has been perfect. Oh, and I LOVE that I get an email and photos every week from each of my kids teachers touching on what the kids are working on and enjoying and some explanation about the Montessori process.

The SAE School - The SAE School students

The SAE School

If I could give this review zero stars I absolutely would. If your child is advanced or doesnt fit…read morein SAE's standard or box steer clear from this school! Seriously, don't do it. We were new to Georgia when we first joined SAE. We were originally told our child would be placed in Pre-K 4 even though their birthday is after the September 1st cutoff. Imagine our surprise after they took our money and we signed a contract that they put our child in Pre-K 3. Their excuse was we need to see if they can adapt to the SAE way. Thats fair enough, but they never moved our child to Pre-K 4, even after they passed all of their assessments. Nonetheless, she had a good teacher and the teacher tested her and stated she definitely should be in Kindergarten and not Pre-K for the upcoming fall school year. This we already were aware of since we work with our children at home. We had a meeting with the SAE administration and they refused to move our child to Kindergarten. Mind you our child wouldn't be the only child who has been moved up and this is a private education system. We are paying for it so the reasons that were given weren't justifiable. They wanted us to try the Pre-K 4 program since its equivalent to public Kindergarten( their words not mines) and then evaluate the move to Kindergarten. That failed miserably as an incident took place with the pre-k 4 teachers that prompted our immediate removal of our child all together. "When we called the pre-k 3 teacher that we had the previous school year, she stated she was glad we were done with that place and although the incident is unfortunate I'm glad your child is no longer there". Those are very concerning words coming from a teacher/staff member. All in all it has been such a blessing in disguise! After leaving SAE, we weren't sure what direction to go in as far as childcare since we knew our child was too advanced for childcare center or daycare. So we looked into homeschooling and co ops. Prior to placement they tested our child and they tested on a 1st grade level! Here we are advocating for our child to be in kindergarten and we should have been advocating for 1st grade! Imagine if we would have stayed at SAE. We would be doing a disservice to our child as they would be in Pre-K 4 and not learning on the level they should be. Again if your child operates outside of the standard or on an advanced level do not send your child to SAE. Just for safety concerns alone, dont send your child here. Always ask your child how their day was and listen to them. Actively listen to them, had we not done so our child would still be here. Thank God our child spoke up!

Show Me Love Learning Academy

I recently substituted at Show Me Love Learning Academy Mableton , and I can honestly say it was…read moreone of the worst daycare experiences I've ever had. When I first walked into the infant classroom, a teacher was playing music that was completely inappropriate for babies. Then, in the 3-4-year-old room, I noticed teachers being downright impolite to the children. I understand using a firm voice when needed, but they were speaking to these kids as if they were adults, without any consideration for age-appropriate communication. It was uncomfortable to watch. What shocked me most was how phones were out during nap time instead of staff helping children settle down and rest. The director seemed to play favorites and turned a blind eye to the chaos. I've never seen such carelessness or fake behavior in a childcare setting. One moment that truly disturbed me was when a little boy mentioned "just like Squid Games" during an activity, and Ms. James shouted at him in anger. The child didn't say anything wrong--he was just making an observation. Then there was a teacher who said, out loud, that a child "might have a yeast infection" because she was itchy. That's incredibly inappropriate and unprofessional. To make things worse, I was left alone in classrooms with children I had never met before, without any proper schedule or introduction. That's not only unsafe, but it's also unfair to both the kids and the staff. I introduced myself the best I could, but no one supported me or helped ease the transition. Some of the staff might be decent, but from what I observed, they weren't welcoming or helpful. It felt like the bare minimum was being done. I also noticed they were preparing food without gloves, using children's restrooms (which I later found out is illegal), and those same bathroom doors don't lock--so any child could walk in while an adult is using the restroom. To use a proper bathroom, staff would have to walk across to another building, which could leave classrooms over ratio. On top of that, no one answers the door when you knock. There were just too many violations in one day for me to stay quiet. I'm genuinely tempted to report them to the state. Those kids looked scared to be there, and no child should ever feel that way in a place that's supposed to care for and educate them. Parents, please be careful. Don't be fooled by a fake smile. Some of these places are unsafe, and they'll gaslight you if you speak up. Stay aware and protect your kids. It could never be me

When reading the…read morewebsite, touring the facility with the owner, Miss Beverly and going through the orientation process we felt good about what was being presented. We were asked about our baby's needs, we were asked to fill out a meal plan, sleep schedule and were told they would make every effort to follow it. We were made to feel like our baby would receive love and care. It was much to our disappointment that the teachers in the classroom my baby was in did the exact opposite. Babies were being left to cry with little to no comfort, expected to stay in a crib for 2 hours whether they were taking a nap or not, if my baby fell asleep before "nap time" and woke up while other babies were asleep, he was confined to a high chair. He was fed another babies food on multiple occasions, sent home with other babies bottles. There were times my baby went the whole day with only one bottle and only got it because I called and asked them to give him his bottle. The teachers were rude anytime I called with a concern I was either spoken to rudely or hung up on. The lead teacher is ruff with the babies and picks them up by the arms. They refused to follow any suggestions I had to help my baby take a nap or eat. One time I called and asked them to please try and feed my baby again because he barely ate his lunch and was told "No we are not doing that lunch time is over." We are talking about infants here. A few of the teachers really tried but there were so many issues and concerns all brought to Miss Beverly's attention. She is a nice lady but the staff do not listen to her or respect her or the GA state laws for childcare. I had to pull my son out because the things I was witnessing were very upsetting. We saw improvements after several complaints but it was never consistent.
